Seeking the welfare of the city: what the Church can contribute to the common good by The Rt Rev’d Dr Pete Wilcox, Bishop of Sheffield

Wednesday 26 June, 7.30pm, Sheffield Cathedral, Church Street, S1 1HAPete Wilcox, Bishop of Sheffield, will explore how, in pursuit of the common good, the Church has something to offer to policy-making, as well as project-delivery, in what one might call a prophetic – and not merely pastoral – role.

This lecture is part of the God and the Good: Thinking Religion and Ethics lecture series www.sheffield.ac.uk/philosophy/research/god-and-good

Join us for the Big Walk! This year you can either walk or run 23 or 37 miles through the Peak District.

Our 37 mile walk starts at the University, taking in Ringinglow, Fox House, Longshaw Estate, and Hathersage before going across to Hope. It’s here that the 23 milers join in and continue up through Ladybower, Bradfield and back down to the University for a celebratory finish!

Walkers/runners will be finishing between 2pm-10pm, depending on their walking speed.

This year’s walk will be in aid of student scholarships. In 2019 we are fundraising to give as many students as possible the opportunity to come and study at Sheffield. All participants are asked to raise a minimum of £150 and fundraising support will be given.

Price £18 per entry. Find out more and register to take part at: www.sheffield.ac.uk/alumni/big-walk

Dementia Futures 2019 is a 1-day conference for members of the public affected by dementia and for organisations who represent or offer support to such persons. University of Sheffield postgraduate researchers, from a range of disciplines, will share what they are doing in an accessible way and hear what local people affected by dementia think about their studies. Guidance has been given by the South Yorkshire Dementia

Research Advisory Group (SYDEMRAG) about how to make the conference as accessible as possible.

Postgraduate researchers will present their research in short 12-minute presentations, offering plenty of opportunities for questions and interactive discussion. The focus will be on sharing academic and lay dementia expertise, facing the challenges of dementia together.
