The eldest among my siblings and many cousins, I discovered a flair for counseling very early in life.

Born and brought up in a joint family, I was fortunate to be surrounded by those who trusted my

judgment and gave me the opportunity to be the peace maker and the team coordinator. In many ways,

an innate ability to understand people made me the self appointed relationship guide, the motivator and

the agony aunt for my peers and juniors at home and at school. While I was thrilled with my competence

to deal with people, it was my mother who helped me identify that my natural strengths would be most

useful in a career related to Psychology.

Subsequently, I took up Psychology as one of the electives in high school. The curriculum modules have

enabled me to become perceptive, socially aware, self-reflective and develop appreciation about human

behaviour and human mind

In addition course modules on Political Science, Economics and Mathematics contributed to an

understanding of the world around, enhanced my knowledge domain and developed an understanding of

experiences, behaviors and mental processes of human beings within a socio-cultural, political and

historical context.

Volunteering time with several NGOs and my role of a peer trainer at school further nurtured my desire topursue Psychology. As a Peer Trainer, I counseled young people on drug abuse and joined a peer

vigilance anti-ragging squad to prevent bullying of young children in school. As part of the Interact club,

I mobilized students to join the various programs increasing membership by more than 25% in just sixmonths of campaigning .

Participation in international exchange programmes taught me the importance of understanding

different cultural and community perspectives. The Twinning Programme with Chuachukang School,

Singapore and the International School Conference at Penang, Malaysia helped me confront challenges

outside a familiar support network. An opportunity to host visiting student delegates from Mexico during

the Community Development and Leadership Summits 2010 and 2011, was welcomed by all at home.

This was a crucial experience which helped me see my country through the eyes of foreign peers who

were visiting for the first time. The discussions and sharing of views with students from around the

world has made me realize the value of adding international perspectives in an era where working with

international partners is becoming a norm in almost all fields of work. This has influenced my decision

to study abroad .

I bring to your campus an enthusiasm to participate in sports and other activities. The world of

basketball has shaped my calm, focused personality and inculcated discipline, rules of fair play,

leadership, team spirit and sportsmanship. Passionate about dancing, my stage performances speak of my

commitment and determination. Discussions and debates both within and beyond the classroom walls

have made me an effective speaker . Taking the lead in the planning and profitable execution of a stall at

the annual Diwali Carnival and participating in and organizing school cultural events has fostered

leadership and teamwork as I, along with my peers worked, committed to common goals of

excellence.

Studying Psychology in school has fueled my curiosity to know more which motivates me to pursue

Psychology in the UK. An international degree with chosen electives from an accredited school will

facilitate an understanding of the matrix of complex factors that influence human behavior. It will create

a strong foundation to pursue a career and compete at global levels. I intend to work as a clinicalpsychologist or a counselor in the future, with a desire to help people adjust to change and to live in

harmony with their social environment. I want to contribute to a world where people share and care for

each other, creating environments of happiness and cooperation.
