AVALON REGATTA
The Avalon Yacht Club and the Borough of Avalon wish to welcome all sailors, Flag O fficers and members of the South Jersey Yacht Racing Association to the 1974 Avalon Regatta. Our Regatta Chairman this year w ill be Vice Commodore Raymond A. Francis, Jr.
Comets, GP-14, Moths, Sunfish, Lasers, and Hobie Cats w ill participate in this annual event on August 24 and 25. Conditions perm itting, some races fo r the larger boats may be conducted in the Great Sound in which case special starting times w ill be posted.
Several years ago South Jersey Yacht Racing Association voted to lim it Board Boats sailing in the South Jersey Regattas to the Sunfish. A period o f three years was allowed fo r this adjustment. This is the last season that all types of Board Boats w ill be eligible. Starting 1975 the competition w ill be lim ited to Sunfish.
CLUB SAILING ACTIV ITIES
Again this year we are fortunate to have John Runzer as our Sailing Chairman. He has planned two Summer Series involving many week-end races at the club. In addition there w ill be two of the popular Family Regatta Nights. Labor Day w ill be turned over exclusively to the long time Father's Day Race followed by awarding o f the season's prizes.
You w ill find on the previous pages the Summer Series races fo r Boards and Moths at the Avalon Yacht Club, along w ith a schedule o f major sailing events at other clubs to round out the South Jersey schedule.
This year Carl and Duke Powers w ill again be Co-chairman of the Patrol Committee. This is a most im portant committee, working tirelessly every year fo r the safety o f all our sailors, so lets give them our support and appreciation.
YOUTH PROGRAM
The youth program w ill again be under the chairmanship o f Ed Ferren III. We have an excellent enlarged staff o f instructors under the guidance of our Club Manager, Dick Shoemaker and Assistant Manager Cece Buss.
The staff w ill include Cece Buss, Head Sailing Instructor; Lois Miller, Head Swimming Instructor; Jay Buss, Ed Ferren, Niles van den Beemt, Donna Ferren and John Runzer.
Sailing and swimming instructions are open to all member's children who are interested in learning. Mornings are set aside fo r sailing, swimming and life saving instructions. Afternoons are fo r actual participation in sailing and swimming activities. Join our m ultip ly ing list o f w inners by taking advantage o f these well managed classes.
Good sailing to all and again may your summer be filled w ith the lasting pleasures o f com petition and fellowship.
