A stunning new production, set in Britain's Olympic Year, exposing the beatingheart of a nation, still broken and still divided across class lines.

A long distance race in real time. We follow one runner, alone with his thoughts, becoming part of his journey as his steady running rhythm transports him over a harsh, frost bitten earth. Colin Smith is defiant. He is a young rebel inhabiting the no man'sland of detention centres and young offenders institutes.

Why, for whom and for what is he running?

Adapted by BAFTA winning and Olivier Award nominated playwright Roy Williams(Sucker Punch, Fallout, Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lads), this gritty adaptation of AlanSillitoe's classic text hits the ground running; unlocking the biting realism of the originalbook while placing the drama firmly in a contemporary frame

A extraordinary new play based on the true story of a maverick plastic surgeonand his guinea pig patients.

At the outset of World War II cosmetic surgeon Archibald McIndoe - whose expertise in fashioning the noses of starlets brings him fame but not fulfillment - must abandonplans for retirement to pioneer the most challenging procedures in surgical history, including the complete reconstruction of the human face. His new group of patients:the savagely burned fighter pilots and aircrew who helped to thwart the Germaninvasion of Britain.

But McIndoe soon discovers that all his efforts in the operating theatre are futile unlesshe can also save the shattered man behind the face. ‘For what good is a face without aman - a whole man?’ This then becomes his mission - and his own salvation.

Emotions run the gamut from poignant to hilarious while challenging our attitudestowards beauty and its relevance to success.

WED 7 - SAT 10 NOVIn 1977 the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company celebratedthe Queen’s Silver Jubilee with a special productionof Iolanthe. York Opera has chosen to follow suit forits Diamond Jubilee Year production. With a secondact set in the heart of the British establishment – thePalace of Westminster-and featuring a men’s chorusof Peers of the Realm, the object of Gilbert’s satire in1882 is very clear and still very topical today. Sincethe then Head of State, Queen Victoria, was the onlyfemale in the hierarchy of the time, it is fitting thatwe see their idiosyncrasies through the eyes of theladies’ chorus of Fairies and of their Queen. Runningalongside the political storyline is that of the

‘Arcadian Shepherdess’ and Ward of Court,Phyllis, and her ‘ Arcadian Shepherd’,Strephon, who is half a fairy…!

Iolanthe contains some of Sullivan’s mostlovely music and some of the cleverestcomic verse in the English language in the‘Nightmare’ Song. Elsewhere Gilbert alsomanages, in the course of two stanzas, tocome up with 10 rhymes for the word ‘Fairy’–and still make sense!
