The HI280 shelving system is particu-larly suited for the storage of small parts such as spare parts in a car garage, a car dealership or a smaller warehouse for spare parts. Many car parts stores are already using HI280 shelving. The basis of the storage sys-tem is a range of shelves and beams made from high-grade pre-galvanized steel. These can be assembled in countless ways.

To efficiently store automotive parts special solutions are sometimes re-quired, whether it’s for very small, bulky, odd shaped, fragile, flammable, acidic products or products that are sensitive to an electrostatic discharge. The wide range and robustness of the

In larger storage facilities, such as a central spare parts warehouse, the shelving system can create a good complementarily storage facility alongside a pallet racking system in order to increase the storage density of the warehouse.

Increased storage density with mo-bile shelvingBy mounting the HI280 on mobile units, any garage or manufacturer will be provided with an optimal compact storage system. Mobile racks could double the storage capacity compared to traditional static shelving. Mobile HI280 is especially efficient in situa-tions where you have to have access to a wide range of small parts, but where your storage space is limited, or where you wish to free up space for

other activities. The initial investment is very likely to be a cost-effective so-lution for your company, compared to an expensive extension.

Tyre Storage - maximum storage density

Optimal storage of tyres is about ob-taining the maximum amount of tyrestorage in the available space without affecting the quality of the tyre. Stan-dardised components are assembled into a tailor-made solution – easy to install, durable in use, and easy to ad-just and readjust again.

Storing tyres in the standard HI280 shelving system, is effective already in small installations, like in a garage. Tyres with and without wheel rims can be stored vertically, which gives a high storage density and free up floor space. The medium long span tyre racks –with spans of up to 2 metres – can be very effective in small spaces

The HI280 can be mounted on mobile units, thus providing the optimal com-

pact tyre storage system. Although the investment is higher, it is often seen as an inexpensive alternative to an expensive building extension. It can also create very secure storage as the mobile units can be locked together and access given only through an electronic code. For many tyre hotels this is the ideal solution.

When you need to store tyres in batches, pallet racking could be a good solution. The tyres are stored in bulk on pallets and only taken down mechanically for handling in smaller amounts when needed. Pallet rack storage utilizes the height as well as the width and depth of the space avail-able. For even greater storage capac-ity the racking could be mounted on mobile units.

Pallet rack storage is a fully dimen-sional storage solution, utilising height, width and depth. Therefore it is most suitable for large scale installa-tions, like a central warehouse for the bulk storage of spare parts or other car parts.

The Constructor P90 pallet racking system is available in heights up to 30 metres, in a variety of depths and widths, which makes it possible to uti-lise the full potential of the building. The rack system can be assembled as single or double depth racks, while the robust construction of the system allows the storage of very heavy parts such as engine blocks and car batter-ies.

P90 pallet racking also has a vast range of accessories to support the storage of automotive components that won’t fit on a standard pallet. With accessories like vertical dividers, oddly shaped products such as windscreens and exhaust pipes can be stored in an ideal way. Steel shelves, wire mesh shelving, pallet support bars and shelf dividers, can also make the storage of small objects efficient.

For the storage of oils, chemicals or other hazardous liquids, drip trays will eliminate the risk of damaging other stored goods below, if there is a leak-age.

A pallet racking system can also be turned into a good solution for the picking of individual boxes or single parts. With the addition of pull-out units, these allow objects to be re-trieved from within the pallet racking without using a forklift or pallet truck to bring the pallet out of the racking and without forcing the worker to en-ter the racking framework. Carton flow systems can be incorporated into the pallet racking to further support pick-ing processes.

When more storage space is need-ed, the P90 system can easily be mounted on automated mobile bases, MOVO. This solution also saves time by reducing the picking distances, and possible avoiding the need for an ex-pensive building extension.

referencesAuto Lindvang, DKAuto Lindvang, distributor for the brands Volvo, Renault, Citroën and Landrover, was facing a merger of two auto-motive companies and therefore needed extra capacity for storage and handling of tyres. A mobile shelving sys-tem was installed for tires in the warehouse, along with a special truck for handling tyres.

Koiviston Auto Oy, FIKoiviston Auto purchased several Paternoster storage machines in 2007, when the company moved its logistic functions to a newly built central warehouse in Lahti. The high ceiling space in the buildings has been utilised by this solution, this was the main reason for Koiviston Auto choosing these machines. As a result there has been overall increase in storage space.

Evo Bus, DETo optimise the world wide delivery of spare parts for the bus manufacturer EvoBus, a store was designed with static and mobile shelving for the handling of fast mov-ers in their new "dynamic center“. The center is designed for up to 8.000 customer picks per day and has made it possible to increase the picking speed significant.

KG Knutsson AB, SEA company expansion due to increasing export and new product groups, KG Knutsson needed a new cen-tral-store. P90 pallet racking and HI280 shelving were chosen and now stores goods from on average, 70 trucks that are coming in and going out daily.

Svenska Bil i Norden AB, SELimited space made Svenska Bil replace an old manual picking shelving system with a Tornado and two Pater-noster storage machines. This solution resulted in a space saving of 450m², reducing the storage footprint from 600m² to 150 m². In addition, a new, small ware-house was built to store 4,000 tyres on 18 mobile HI280 with between 3 and 5 levels in each.
