structure, not appearance• Can use one of many

underlying structural schemas• DITA• DITA4Publishers• DocBook• Industry specific

• Very powerful for transformation and reconfiguration for multiple channels

Concerned about XML? Don’t be, even Word uses a form of XML “under the hood’.

• Paper is not dead• The strengths paper are weaknesses online (and vice

versa)• Create structured content separate from format (to

share content)• Plan ahead• Think semantically and structurally – not visually (that

comes later)• The same content can be reused in print and online• Think of the template like a web CSS – to define look

and feel• XML can streamline the process, but you MUST plan
