Abstract

• In case of an accident ,the Automatic Car Collision Notification system in the car

senses the collision , using the impact sensors placed in various parts of the car.

• If the passenger does not disable the alarm, the processing unit initiates an

emergency wireless call to an emergency service , to deliver the vehicle's GPS

location, crash-related data and opens a voice communications channel to the

emergency call center.

• The emergency service that will be notified in this project is EMRI (108 ambulance

service).

Page 3: Automatic Car Collision Notification

Introduction

• Research shows that a considerable number of the accident victims can be saved , if they receive immediate medical attention.

• Since, accident notification in our country is primarily relied on the assistance by bystanders and onlookers, negligence by them due to the fear of reporting it to police, may result in the death of the accident victim(s).

• So, automatic accident notification systems like ours , are required to solve this problem. When our system is installed in the car, it reports the location to the EMRI emergency service as soon as the accident occurs.

• The impact sensor (Load cells) in the car senses the collision, and if it is greater than the threshold level , The microcontroller alarms the passengers.

Page 4: Automatic Car Collision Notification

Introduction

• If the passenger does not disable the alarm in time, the microcontroller gets the location coordinates from the GPS and using the GSM module it sends the coordinates to the EMRI emergency service.

• EMRI uses our information to dispatch the nearest available ambulance to the

accident spot.

Block Diagram Explanation

1. ATmega32 – Microcontroller : • Atmega32 is a 8-bit microcontroller, 40 pin microcontroller and it has an on-chip

programmable flash memory of 32KB.

• It has 2KB SRAM, 1KB EEPROM, 8 Channel 10-bit A/D-converter.

2 . Global positioning system (GPS) : • The GPS used in our project has a POT (patch on top) antenna for maximum sensitivity.

• It outputs the location as a 8 bit data to the MCU.

• Serial data communication is used.

• The output baud rate is 9600bps

Block Diagram Explanation

3. GSM(Global System for Mobile communication): • GSM module used in our project is SIM300

• SIM300 is a tri-band GSM/GPRS device

• It is interfaced to the MCU via 60pin board to board connector.

4. Load Cell : • Load cell is a transducer that converts force (or pressure) into a measurable electrical o/p.

• Single-point Load Cell CZL601is used in our system.

Circuit Diagram Explanation:

• The Transistor T1 steps down the 230V AC to 15V AC and that it is further rectified to 12V DC using IC 7812 and to a -12V DC using IC 7912.

• This supply is given to the Load cell via instrumentation amplifier, instrumentation amplifier also receives a 5v DC from IC 7805 connected to transformer T2.

• The transformer T2 steps down the 230V AC to 18V AC and it is rectified to a 12V and 5V supplies using IC 7812 and IC 7805.

• The 12V supply is used as power source by the voice and GSM modules.

Page 10: Automatic Car Collision Notification

Circuit Diagram Explanation:

• The GPS and the microcontroller uses 5v power supply.

• The Tx and RX lines from the microcontroller are multiplexed (using a relay) to support data transfer from(and to) GPS and GSM.

• By default, the Tx and Rx lines are connected to GPS and after fetching the location coordinates , the relay switches over to GSM for the transmission of coordinates to the EMRI.

Comparing with the existing systems :

• The systems that are in existence, involve high initial and annual cost, due to their use of commercial emergency rescue systems.

• As our project uses EMRI (A free emergency rescue system),the customers have to pay only for the initial hardware and installation costs

• They don’t have to spend any money on maintenance and annual subscription costs.

Page 15: Automatic Car Collision Notification

Advantages and Applications

• Our system can be installed in all the four wheelers for automatic accident notification.

• The advantages of our system includes, Zero annual subscription cost and Low initial cost.

• Since, EMRI is available in majority of the Indian states, our system can be used in other states as well.

Page 16: Automatic Car Collision Notification

Conclusion

• Automatic car collision notification is a life saving device that senses the accident , when it occurs and reports it to the 108 emergency service instantly with GPS coordinates and the number of passengers in the vehicle

• The advantage of this system over the other existing system is that it is cheaper and more reliable.

• In case of a minor accident user can also deactivate the alert and prevent the information being sent to the Emergency service unnecessarily.

Page 17: Automatic Car Collision Notification

Scope For Improvement

• Since, 108 Emergency service is not available in all the states of our country. The project can be developed further for supporting the local emergency service of all the states.

• Based on the location of the vehicle, the device should contact the respective service in case of an accident.

• Which would need a support for extensive database of all the emergency services in the country and a more smarter device capable of parsing through the extensive record and using the best possible emergency service.
