What use is expertise if it isn’t put into practice and applied to the road? In the Boxster, the 2.7-litre horizontally opposed six cylinder engine delivers 195 kW (265 hp); in the Boxster S, the 3.4-litre equivalent generates 232 kW (315 hp). Both mid-mounted engines feature direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus for a significant increase in both power output and efficiency. The SPORT button on the centre console is fitted as standard and opens up even more agile responses. Power is transmitted to the wheels by a lightweight six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).

A series of innovative technologies is key to achieving exemplary efficiency. As standard, these include the auto start/stop function, electrical system recuperation, energy-saving electromechanical power steering, intelligent thermal management and, in conjunction with PDK, the coasting function. The result is a significant reduction in fuel consumption and, therefore, a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 16% compared with the previous model (depending on the equipment variant).

Porsche Stability Management (PSM) provides stability at the limits of sporty performance. Available

as an option, enhanced Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) offers continuous adjustment of damping forces based on the selected mode. Dynamic performance can be further improved with optional Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV). The optional Sport Chrono Package includes dynamic gearbox mounts for the first time. They contain a fluid with magnetic properties, which enables them to adapt instantly to driving conditions and counteract the effects of inertia. The results are perceptibly more stable handling during performance driving, as well as a higher level of ride comfort.

The brakes at the front axle have a greater surface area for improved braking performance. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is available as an option. The electric hood of the new Boxster opens and closes in around nine seconds and is operable up to a speed of approx. 30 mph. The intelligent lightweight construction, which uses aluminium for substantial parts of the bodyshell, doors and luggage compartment lids, helps to achieve an excellent power-to-weight ratio.

A design classic, a powerful sports car and a pure-bred roadster. It does full justice to the legendary Porsche cars of the past.


We have redefined the Boxster in terms of its performance, and defined how the roadster of the future should look. In doing so, we have once again succeeded in creating an icon of independence. Just like its legendary predecessors, including the 550 Spyder, it is a Porsche that continues to epitomise the feeling of genuine freedom and advancement.

The vertical contour of the headlights was inherited from Porsche race cars of the 1960s and 1970s. The new Boxster may be infused with the genes of past generations, but it ushers in a new and forward-looking design ethos.

Large, imposing air intakes give the front a powerful appearance.

The side contour promises thrilling performance, while the long wheelbase and low, raked windscreen are integral to forming the stretched, wedge-shaped silhouette. With the hood closed, this impression is reinforced by the extremely sporting roofline. Large wheels, up to 20 inches in size, make a stylish addition to the classic roadster. These emphasise the cars wide track and help to achieve a completely new level of athletic performance.

The distinctive shoulder line gives further emphasis to the wheels and, in combination with the side air intakes, to the mid-engine layout. Such features are reminiscent of the 718 RS 60 Spyder, a lightweight mid-engined sports car that achieved success in endurance racing and hillclimbing championships alike.

Precise lines, which run elegantly across the wings to the rear, make the new Boxster unique among Porsche models. While its overall look is just as imposing, its lines are more sharply defined than on any Porsche we’ve seen before. The exclusive door styling reflects more recent Porsche design developments. In typical Porsche fashion, it has a clear function. The dynamic contouring improves airflow to the side air intakes. At the top, it leads into a precise longitudinal edge and, at the bottom, it is underlined by the sculpted door sill. The exterior mirrors are mounted directly on the doors for impressive aerodynamics and low wind noise.

The rear wing is not only a visual treat, it deploys automatically to reduce lift. Aerodynamics and aesthetics are combined to superb effect. Retracted, the spoiler separation edge makes a seamless transition to the LED taillights. The narrow direction indicators appear to extend the rear wing further. Each taillight sweeps around the central brake light and accentuates the contours of the entire unit. For striking effect, the reversing light and rear fog light are arranged in the middle underneath the rear wing. Clearly, this lighting concept has no precedent, rather it is the result of Porsche’s modern use of form. The diffuser with stainless-steel tailpipe (dual-tube on the Boxster S) integrated into the centre adds the finishing touch to the powerfully designed rear end.

Redefined Performance

In summary, the new Boxster draws inspiration from a long history and, yet, it also incorporates the sum of our ideas of how the future should be. In doing so, it reflects a completely new interpretation of the roadster concept – with a clear focus on looking forward.


Ultimately, the feeling of freedom comes from within. The interior of the new Boxster models is purposefully designed as a declaration of independence. The geometric form of the cockpit follows a clear direction: forwards. The elevated centre console integrates the driver optimally into the vehicle by positioning the gear lever extremely close to the steering wheel to enable fast and sporty gear changes.

The generously proportioned interior is light and offers plenty of space for driver and passenger comfort. The individual controls are characterised by their simplicity and ergonomics for intuitive use.

Fitted as standard, the CDR audio system combines with the optional Sound Package Plus to deliver impressive acoustic performance and has a touchscreen for easy operation. Available as an option, the BOSE® Surround Sound System creates an authentic sound experience with eight amplifier channels, 10 loudspeakers and a total output of 445 watts.

The Interior is designed as a declaration of independence

The interior materials are high-quality, and the refined tone is enhanced by a wealth of silver-coloured details. These are found on the dashboard trim strip, the centre console, the door pulls, the glove compartment release lever, the side and centre air vent surrounds and the model designation plaque on the centre console.

The steering wheel rim and gear lever/selector are sporty and stylish at the same time. The door pull inlays are typically Porsche. Finished in leather, they represent a balanced blend of design and functionality. In the Boxster S, the door armrests and the centre console storage compartment lid are also finished in leather.

For even more sporty elegance, you can request the optional leather package for a stylish leather finish on purposefully selected interior features. As always, a comprehensive leather interior package is also available as an option.

2.7-litre engine

The Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It generates 195 kW (265 hp) at 6,700 rpm. The maximum torque of 280 Nm is available over a broad engine speed range from 4,500 rpm to 6,500 rpm.

The new Boxster with six-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 264 km/h (164 mph). With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it completes the 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 262 km/h (162 mph). In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the sprint time is reduced to just 5.5 seconds.

3.4-litre engine

The Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It develops 232 kW (315 hp) at 6,700 rpm and the maximum torque of 360 Nm is produced between 4,500 rpm and 5,800 rpm.

The new Boxster S with six-speed manual gearbox races from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 279 km/h (173 mph). With optional PDK, an acceleration time of 5.0 seconds and a maximum speed of 277 km/h (172 mph) are achieved. In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the Boxster S with PDK finishes the sprint in only 4.8 seconds.

About the carThe Evoque is the smallest, lightest, greenest Range Rover yet – and possibly one of the most desirable cars. The Evoque is available as a four-wheel-drive car with three or five doors and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. A two-wheel-drive diesel version is also available.

How much?From less than €33.600 to more than €80.000 depending on the amount of extras you choose.

Fuel consumption?The 2.2-litre manual diesel Evoque will average 44.1mpg and the 2.0-litre petrol, which comes with a six-speed automatic box, will do 32.4mpg. The two-wheel-drive eD4 model with a detuned diesel is capable of 58mpg.

CO2 emissions?Emissions are from less than 130g/km to 199g/km.

How does it drive?The driving position is great and the range of gadgets on offer, from an eight-inch dual-view touch-screen navigation system to self-parking and all-round cameras. Both models have the optional adaptive dynamics variable suspension system, and with this in place, the Evoque feels more like a hot hatch than a compact 4x4. It rides well, steers well, makes mincemeat of corners and keeps road- and wind noise to a minimum.

Why would I want one?This is a Range Rover through-and-through, with a stylish, high-quality cabin that offers lots of

personalisation possibilities and a surprising amount of cabin and cargo space for a car that’s less than 4.4

metres long and styled like a coupe.

The 2.2 diesel (188bhp and 311lb ft of torque) will probably be the best seller, but unless you’re likely to be

doing high mileage the 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol engine (236bhp and 251lb ft) is your best option.

It doesn’t feel significantly less torquey than the diesel, because what it’s got is available across such a wide rev

band. The extra power is immediately noticeable and it’s more refined and sounds better.

About the carThe X3 is substantially bigger even though its 110.6-inch wheelbase is up only a little bit. It is 3.1 inches longer than before, at 183.0; width has expanded by 1.1 inches, to 74.1; and the front and rear track each increase by 3.6 inches. The height, meanwhile, has come down by half an inch, to 65.4 inches. The sum of these dimensional adjustments, plus more-creased body sides and broader nostrils in the front fascia, is a vehicle with a more athletic stance than before, and one that’s more attractive, too.

This new version comes with more standard kit, including leather upholstery, two-zone air-conditioning and an iDrive central systems controller. The cabin is not only impressive to look at but practical, too. This version is extremely comfortable, even in the sportiest setting.

How much?Base price range for the 2011 BMW X3 is € 41.000 – € 56.000.

Fuel Consumption?The BMW X3, in xDrive20d automatic form, is the most economical 4x4 in its class, with a combined fuel economy figure of 50.4 mpg.

CO2 EmissionsThe fuel consumption equates to emissions of 147 g/km CO2.

How does it drive?The VDC-equipped car handles well. Body control is tight in both modes, it grips strongly, and although the steering doesn’t have the feel you expect of a BMW, it’s well weighted and reasonably quick. The 181bhp 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine has always impressed in other BMW models, and it feels just as quick in the X3 with 184 hp at 4,800 rpm and a max torque of 270 Nm at 1,250 rpm.

Why would I want one?The new X3 definitely has a much more comfortable ride. You effectively get two cars, as the Drive Dynamic Control system enables you to choose between Normal, Sport and Sport+ modes. These settings have a noticeable effect on the car, and especially the gearbox. Normal mode results in the gears changing automatically at very low revs and results in a relaxing drive. The Sport and Sport+ settings hold the car in gear for much longer, resulting in the car being much more responsive, as well as tightening the suspension and steering, so becoming much more of a driver’s car. Sport+ disengages an element of traction control.It scores highly for efficiency and refinement, whilst also being practical and offering the added security of four-wheel drive.The new X3 is much more elegant yet sporty than the previous model and is approaching the size of the original X5.

About the carWith sharp styling and a comfortable, luxury cabin the

Q5 is a superb all-round 4x4. It’s considerably smaller

than the Q7, making it much easier to drive and park,

but still offers decent interior space and a large boot

too. There’s a good choice of engines, including the

refined yet frugal 2.0 TDI, along with an excellent

seven-speed automatic gearbox.
