The following online course is an introduction to auto extrication and procedures to be used when responding.

After completing the course and watching the videos, please fill out the form and submit it in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Three hours training credit will be given. Please turn your certificate in to your training officer.

Radio Procedures Say 10-8 to the Truck or 10-8 to the Scene (Keep radio traffic to minimum)

Rescue Trucks Unit 401 first out Who can drive trucks signal 9

Anyone over 25, with driver training, and been checked out on units (see Chief of Squad)

If under 25 ask chief for special written permission

Proceed if two people in truck ask permission if only 1 and other people 10-8

to scene No one to ask permission, use own judgment

Rescue Trucks Unit 402 second out Unit 403 if needed or over embankment and

ropes are needed Radio WL and tell them unit is 10-8 and

number in cab

Proceed at a safe speed even if Signal 9 (Use Due Regard)

First Unit on Scene and Rescue Truck(s) go 10-97, (then no one else)

If Dispatch issues Signal 8 then stand down

If you proceed in POV then you do so as private citizen

All rescue trucks go 10-98 when leaving scene or last unit leaving

In order to gain access to someone that is trapped in a vehicle, most of the time the door will have to be opened and in some cases removed.

In a particular challenging extrication, it is sometimes necessary to gain more access than just opening a door. In most cases roof removal can be accomplished quickly and give better access to the people involved.

Sometimes the crash is so violent that the vehicle dash and/or steering wheel pins the patient. There are two methods that can be used to relieve the pressure. One method is the Dash Roll.

How do you extricate a person from the back seat of a two door vehicle. One method is to create a third door. Click on the video to view.

In a crash where more room is needed to extricate a patient, a method of removing both the front and back door of a vehicle at the same time is necessary. A method to do so is called a Two Door Rippenblitzer.

Stabilization is absolutely critical in the safety of the rescuers and the patient. When a vehicle is on its side, cribbing is to be first used to stabilize the vehicle, and then Res-Q-Jacks.
