Authoritarian Teachers have full responsibility for

regulating the classroom. Teachers devise and enforce specific

rules to control behaviour in the classroom

Teachers are:• Entirely in power• Forcefully and quickly

Skinner’s Behaviour Modification Model

Students’ behaviour are shaped or modified through systematic reinforcement.• Rewards • Negative reinforcements

These must be carried out repetitively

Jones’Positive Classroom Discipline

Emphasises the effectiveness and efficiency of the teacher’s behaviour in in getting the involvement of students in the learning.

This can be achieved by:• Providing engaging lessons• Helping pupils• Giving incentives

The classroom is effectively organised and clear limits are set.

Canters’ Assertive Discipline

Teachers are expected to be assertive• Setting clear rules of behaviour• Set expectations

Achieving these through a discipline hierarchy

The teacher’s communication must be clear and firm and their respond appropriate.

Pupils comply to rule without their interest getting violated.

Behaviour Modification Power Types and Power Bases

Behaviour Modification Pupils behaviour can be modify by

altering the consequences that follow their actions and behaviours.

Usage of systematically principles Systematic consequences :-

• Positive reinforcement• Negative reinforcement• Punishments

Positive Reinforcement To maintain desired behaviour

• e.g. praises, grades

Negative Reinforcement To achieve desired behaviour

• e.g. extra work, denying visits

Punishments Punishment I

• Involves undesirable stimulus e.g. private reprimand, isolation

Punishment II• Involves stricter actions of removing or

witholding a desired or anticipated positive stimulus. e.g. lose free time, excluded from fun activities
