Authentic Faith Application of Solid Foundational Truths Bruce & Terri Mulberry WWW. HeartsAtLiberty.com WHY?..... What if someone says to you..... Learning from the Bible vs. Having an experience and applying the Bible to it Dialectical Process and Deconstruction Bibliology Can I Trust the Bible? R.C. Sproul free on Kindle -or- online source (http://tinyurl.com/Can-I-Trust-the-Bible)http://tinyurl.com/Can-I-Trust-the-Bible -or- sign up for paper copy Can I Really Trust the Bible? Barry Cooper ($5.99 on Kindle or order from Amazon.com) To get the BEST out of this class Memorize the Books of the Bible 2.Write your own Bible faith statement (what you believe about the Bible) 3.Some Scripture memory 4.We will be challenging our thinking and exercising our heart and brain. 5.Share your faith statement with someone NOT associated with this class Revelation Reveal or Show The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. (Psalm 19:1-4) ESV Creation Revelation Reveal or Show For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus. (Romans 2:14-16) ESV The Law Revelation Reveal or Show The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. (Psalm 19:7-11) ESV The Bible Word of God Revelation Reveal or Show In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5, 14 Jesus Christ Revelation Reveal or Show 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The New King James Version. 2 Peter 1: Revelation Specific The International Council on Biblical Inerrancy (No errors in the original documents). California-based organization from 1977 to Recognized that the church was drifting away from belief of the Bibles inerrancy. Some churches were outright denying it. Met to defend the doctrine of biblical inerrancy and its faith application in our daily lives. The International Council on Biblical Inerrancy After considerable discussion, 19 statements or articles were drafted that affirmed the Bibles inerrancy. 240 out of 268 participants endorsed the articles. A commentary was written for each article. A draft commentary was prepared by Dr. R. C. Sproul. A number of editorial changes were made, and the final result is what is contained in this booklet. Because people say Catechism that church leadership and tradition defines what the bible means, making the Bible subordinate to mans judgment. The Bible says what we say it means. Creeds Councils Article I We affirm that the Holy Scriptures are to be received as the authoritative Word of God. We deny that the Scriptures receive their authority from the church, tradition, or any other human source. Article II We affirm that the Scriptures are the supreme written norm by which God binds the conscience, and that the authority of the church is subordinate to that of Scripture. We deny that church creeds, councils, or declarations have authority greater than or equal to the authority of the Bible. There is a sense in which all authority in this world is derived from and dependent on the authority of God. God and God alone has intrinsic authority. That intrinsic authority is given to the Bible, since it is Gods Word. Article III We affirm that the written Word in its entirety is revelation given by God. We deny that the Bible is merely a witness to revelation, or only becomes revelation in encounter, or depends on the responses of men for its validity. Here the Bible is seen not merely as a catalyst for revelation but as revelation itself. Because some people say the Bible only becomes the word of God when you believe it. It is not divine revelation until I believe it. It becomes Divine on human response. Article IV We affirm that God who made mankind in His image has used language as a means of revelation. We deny that human language is so limited by our creatureliness that it is rendered inadequate as a vehicle for divine revelation. We further deny that the corruption of human culture and language through sin has thwarted Gods work of inspiration. Because some people say language is always changing and limited we can not take the Bible literally. It was written by man who sins and errs. Therefore, that which is produced will have errors. Article V We affirm that Gods revelation within the Holy Scriptures was progressive. We deny that later revelation, which may fulfill earlier revelation, ever corrects or contradicts it. We further deny that any normative revelation (standard setting) has been given since the completion of the New Testament writings. Because some people say The bible contradicts itself in the area of prophecy. And God continues to give us new revelation that carries the authority of the written word. Holy Spirits use of His gifts in the words of knowledge and prophecy for us today are subordinate to the written word. None are from the Apocrypha. The Apocrypha was rejected by the church until Problems in the Apocrypha: Teaches use of magic Teaches alms offering for salvation Contains historical errors The Bible stands like a rock undaunted Mid the raging storms of time; Its pages burn with the truth eternal, And they glow with a light sublime. Refrain: The Bible stands though the hills may tumble, It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble; I will plant my feet on its firm foundation, For the Bible stands. The Bible stands like a mountain towring Far above the works of men; Its truth by none ever was refuted, And destroy it they never can. The Bible stands and it will forever, When the world has passed away; By inspiration it has been given, All its precepts I will obey. The Bible stands every test we give it, For its Author is divine; By grace alone I expect to live it, And to prove and to make it mine. The Bible Stands
