James Wan was born on February 26, 1977 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. He is a writer and director and most known for Saw which was released in 2004, Insidious: Chapter 2 and The Conjuring which were both released in 2013

One of the films that wan has directed is insidious : chapter 2. The opening of insidious : chapter we are introduced to a non –diagetic sound of melodic and manor keys . The purpose of the non-diagetic sound was so audience gets the sense that its a valuable environment. The establishing medium shot shows the protagonist, moving the cretins away from the window, so that she could see outside. The impression the audiences get as she pulled the cretins away was that she seemed curious to know what was happening outside. This creates an enigma code as the audiences want to know hat she thought was outside.

We have a long shot of a houses, which establish were the film will be taking place.Furthermore diagetic sound fades in, when something mysterious has happened for instance when the

buggy suddenly begins to move on its own. This suggest to the audience that we are now getting to the part of the opening where it shows conventions of an thriller and horror genre, by mysterious and weird things happening.

As the audience we know this film, is in the present decade due to what has been place in the scenes which the audience could possible relate to, such as the new car model and the design of the house. The director chose this time period, to make it more tense for audience, as there is elements of the present time imbedded into the opening.
