The objectives of the Australian Institute of Building
• To promote excellence in the construction of buildings and just and honorable practices in the conduct of business;
• To advance the study of building and all kindred matters, arts and sciences; • To encourage the friendly exchange between members of knowledge in practical, technical • and ethical subjects; and • To uphold the dignity of the profession of building and the status of the Institute.
NATIONAL CORPORATE PARTNERS
Highlights • A new national Corporate Partners program developed to reflect a strategic move away from
traditional/transactional ‘sponsorship’ • A further strengthening of student engagement/membership with the Institute; • A significant review and refreshing of both current as well as the commissioning of new material for the
AIB’s online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program; • The drawing up of strategy regarding further engagement with potential membership internationally; • The scoping of and further development of both revenue and member generating initiatives with like -
minded organisations; • The review and refinement of numerous systems, processes and policies

Membership
The membership results for the year ended 31 March 2017 showed a good result against the backdrop of continued difficult times in the building and construction industry and membership organisations in general.
Membership growth was seen mainly in the Overseas Chapter(62%) and Students (18%).
The AIB’s Young Builders Alliance continues to make significant advances in providing quality support to students and graduates in the building industry. The alliance is driven by dedicated and hardworking committees around the country which are linked closely with the established AIB Chapters.
Overall membership totals were steady with a significant increase of 307 in the student grade and a moderate -increase of 32 in the fellow grade.

Education
The 2016-17 year was a productive period for the education portfolio. The Course Accreditation Committee continued its focus to strengthen relationships with the higher education sectors completing all the accreditations.
The Course Accreditation Committee’s objectives continued as in past years with the following course accreditations finalised in the 2016-17 year:

Adjunct Appointments
The AIB, in partnership with the various AIB accredited universities, has enlisted prominent Chartered Builders to participate in its Higher Education Adjunct program. This program facilitates these highly experienced builders being appointed to honorary academic positions with particular universities to provide a range of support including guest lecturing/tutoring and advice on the academic program. Professional Excellence in Building
The Professional Excellence in Building Awards is a highlight on the AIB calendar and in 2016, there wasa large number of entries for Jury’s to consider around the country. The calibre of entry again remained high with judges committing a not insignificant amount of time to what is an increasingly difficult job, given the quality/standard of the nominations. Below is a break-down of nominations for each state/territory:

Overview of the Financial Performance
The Financial Statements of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) for the 12 months ended 31 March 2017 are presented on the following pages for the information of members. These statements have been audited by the AIB’s auditors, MCS Audit Pty Ltd and the audit report is unqualified.The AIB’s operations for the reporting year resulted in a deficit of $14,717.
This was a significant achievement and was achieved by means of significant fiscal constraint exercised by the Council and Management. Total Income decreased by 4.2% ($50,114) with the variance related to membership income. Expenditure was contained with a decrease in operational expenditure of 2% ($16,576) on the previous year.
