P R E S I D E N T ’ S M ESSAG EBy Jeffery R. Brunson, DDS

On every internet discussion forum there are active posters and there are “lurkers”. The

same can be true of our Dental Society. Which would you rather be? In my years of service on the CADS Board, beginning with the New Dentist Committee, progressing to TDA Delegate, and then to the Executive Board, I have always found that participating actively was not only personally satisfying, but also gave insights into the workings of our Society and its many different members. I would never have known how many decisions were made that directly affect me and the way we practice dentistry. Being a part of the process does not afford total control but it does allow you to have an active role in the shaping of dentistry. Joining in the process gives insights into the importance of the questions and issues that never seem to stop coming. We take a lot of things about the way we are allowed to practice Dentistry for granted. Everything we have has been earned by the hard work of those

involved at all levels of organized dentistry. When I get my dues statement each year I know what it represents. It is an investment in the profession, as we know it. I only know this because I have put in the time and effort to be aware of what has been achieved. If you doubt this, look at the state of many other health related careers that have lost self-control to outside

parties. If you wanted that, you probably wouldn’t be reading this letter. If you prefer a satisfying professional career and meaningful interaction with your peers, then raise a hand and get involved. We all don’t have to be “President” to help out, but finding an area where we can contribute

is of extreme importance to the continued high standards under which CADS operates. Everyone’s ideas and energy is what keeps us as one of the most vibrant and respected societies in Texas. Be a part of this undertaking and get some real value for your dues dollars.

By Jeffery R. Brunson, DDS

Becoming an Active Part of Your Society

In an effort to streamline registration at our monthly meetings, we have introduced an

expedited registration procedure. We have utilized Retriever Medical and Dental Payments’ virtual terminal to allow self-payments by credit card. This means that you can log-in with our CADS account, and pay for the meeting up to two weeks prior to each meeting. This also makes your reservation for the meeting. You or your staff may do this from your office and print-up your receipt, and then just come to the meeting and take your seat. No more waiting in lines! So how do you do this expedited check-in? Simply log-in to www.nmi.com. Select Merchant Log-in. Type in

the user name: cadsmember and password: member123. All lowercase. Next, go the left side of the screen and click on Sale. Fill out the information and complete your transaction by clicking on Charge. The Cost for

the meeting is: $40 Member Dentists/$50 Members with late registration; $50 Guests of Member Dentist; $70 Non Member Dentists Retriever uses state of the art encryption, which means your transactions are totally secure and private. Transactions

are stored off-site, not on yours or our computers, and you will never receive any solicitations from running a transaction.

our Capital Area Dental Foundation 2012 Gala,

Mardi Gras & Casino Night was well attended and great fun. Hope you had a chance to experience the great energy and excitement. A special thanks to

all of the sponsors for their support of the Foundation and the Society. Austin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery committed that evening $20,000 to the Capital Area Dental Foundation Endowment. With this generous gift, the Austin Community Foundation will contribute the maximum of $5,000 per year for the next three years. Thanks to each and every person that has allowed the Foundation to grow to serve our area with dental care for those that otherwise would not have much needed treatment! Thank you to all of our member dentists who provide compassionate care in the many programs of the Foundation. Without you, we would not exist.

Continuing in the vein of compassionate care, the state-wide efforts of the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation, through the Donated Dental Services program and the Texas Missions of Mercy (TMOM) events has provided almost $17.5 million in care since 2001 serving 25,234 patients. The next TMOM is in San Antonio at St.

Mary’s University on April 13-14th. You can sign up to volunteer at tdasf.org. Kudos to our CADS President, Dr. Jeff Brunson not only for his great leadership but for the very well stated President’s Message about the importance of

involvement in organized dentistry. See you at The Texas Meeting in San Antonio, the 142nd Annual Session of the Texas Dental Association, May 3-6, 2012.

“We hired a dental assistant from The Center over a year ago. She had a good dental foundation, was experienced working chairside, and was eager to learn more. She’s very proficient and has been a fantastic addition to our team!”DR. DAVID GORDON

What are theyabout us?saying

“I’ve hired two employees that were trained at The Center and my experience has been great. CDP has an excellent training program and the assistants are mentored by some of the very best dentists in the state of Texas. Because of this, they graduate with a better understanding of what excellence in dentistry is all about. I would highly recommend the graduates of The Center to anyone looking for a well-trained, motivated assistant.DR. MIKE WILLIAMSON

As we celebrate four great years, we’d like to shout outa big congratulations to our 11th graduating class!
