More than News Lenten Study Announced Last week I thought I had the Lenten Study picked out but I found out that the book I choose went out of print and was no longer available. So I had to do a double take and start all over. The book I choose is “Gospeled Lives” by John Indermark. “Gospeled Lives” explores Jesus’ encounter with several different people, how their ex-periences help us to understand and live out our faith. Each week we will read five les-sons which relive the Bibles account of how Jesus touched someone’s life. During the first week we study how Jesus called a wide variety of people such as Simon Peter, Levi, Bartimaeus, Simon of Cyrene and the women who came to his tomb. Each of the five lessons will serve as the basis for the six weekly Bible study during Lent. The Bible Study books need to be picked up on February 19th in order to read the first lesson that week. The study groups will meet for the first time during the week of February 26th. During the week of the 26th everyone will be reading the second lesson. We will finish with the study groups during the first week in April. If this is the first time you have been in a Bible Study, you find that while some people are called upon to read publicly, you are not required to read if you do not feel comfortable reading out loud in a group. Just let the leader in each group know and the leader will abide by your request. I hope you will be willing to join a group this Lenten season. A study during Lent helps us to focus on our faith and strengthens our personal relationship with God. It also helps us grow in our relationship with those whom we study. Please sign up when the sheets are put out on the table by the South door of the sanctuary. The price of each book will be listed on the signup sheets. I know that this will be a great study and I pray that we will have and encounter with the Living Jesus. Yours in Christ Name, Terry McGuire

Over the Hill Gang meets 1st Monday of each month. They meet at the Christian Church.at 9:30 am. They tell me everyone is invited to come. This meeting is to plan what they are doing for the month.
NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH High soprano Karen Phillips once sang in the
choir, but for several services she was in the congre-gation and not in the loft. When asked why she no
longer sang, she explained, “One Sunday when I was home sick with a cold, several folks asked if the
organ had been repaired.” *************************
One thing for sure our choir sounds fantastic. Good job Curt!
I HAD A NICE NOTE FROM SUSAN MESSICK Hi Connie, Thank you for sending the church newsletter and the Upper Room to me. It is so good to hear from and about my friends at Anthony UMC. I have al-ways loved the Upper Room and use it daily but I do realize sending the booklet to everyone is costly. I read where you’ll be eliminating the booklet when mailing the newsletter. This is fine with me as I at-tend Broomfield UMC and can pick up a copy of the Upper Room there. Also I am able to retrieve the newsletter on the Anthony UMC website, so there is no need to send that to me as well. I know churches have to cut back and eliminating unneces-sary mailing is one of them. Although mail can be a great tool to reach out to people to let them know what is going on in your church. The website is a great tool to view what is going on at Anthony UMC. It is an awesome website! I hope your health is improving and the new year is a beginning of a great year. God Bless, Susie Messick P.S. I’d love to hear from friends at Anthony UMC!
Ladies of the Church, The Cookies were delicious! Each one better than the last. Thank you for thinking of us. God’s Blessings, Larry & Shirley Nelson
The First United Methodist Church acknowledges with thanks your contribution in memory of
Argenia O’Neil.
The family will be notified of your thoughtfulness.
Circle Meetings
Lamplighters will meet on February
16th at 2 pm in the Hoath Chapel.
Program: Prayer & Self Denial
Program Leader is Marti Templeton
We will receive the Prayer & Self
Denial Offering at this meeting.
*****
Koinonia Circle will also meet on
February 16th only they will meet
at 6:30 pm.
Hostess & Co-Hostess will be
Linda McGuire. The meeting
will be at the parsonage.
Only Newsletters will be mailed out. Cost wise the Upper Room was too costly to mail out to everyone. Besides we were not sure everyone was using it. You may pick one up at the church on Sunday or anytime the church is open. Office hours are on the back of this newsletter. If it is impossible for you to get to the church to get your Upper Room then give us a call at 842-5486 and somehow we will find a way to get yours to you.
Times To Remember February 22, 2012 Ash Wednesday 7:00 p.m. Please put this service on your schedule. Soup and Sermon Lenten Study Each Wednesday at noon will be the annual Soup and Sermon meeting held at the Higher Grounds and Leather Bound community room. While the schedule has not been worked out, the sessions will be each Wednesday beginning February 22 at noon and going through April 4th. Please plan to come and join the fellowship and worship experience. Maundy Thursday service will be April 5th at 7:00 pm.
Prayer Chain
Prayer Chain is a project I have wanted to work
on for some time now. I am asking everyone
who is interested in being called about the
prayer chain to call me or email me and let me
know if you want to be a participant. I think we
have lost so many people that it is hard to tell if
someone is overloaded with making calls or if
they don’t have anyone to call any longer. If
you want to be called 1st and will call everyone
on your list that would be great. We can email
also. I just need to know who wants their mes-
sage as an email. I know one of our ladies does
this for her group. If you already are on the list
and call several or few please let me know who
you call and we can start there. This is a project
I have wanted to do for some time. Now I am
ready to get started. Lets see what can be done
to let everyone know we are praying for them
when needed. Prayer in numbers definitely
heard.
Thanks to everyone. Connie
Dear Terry McGuire: The year 2012 marks Africa University’s 20th anniversary of creating leaders for all of Africa. It’s a milestone that transforms an ordinary year into a extraordinary one for all of us. What at first appears to be ordinary—that Africa University exists and has a story to tell—is, at the same time, truly remarkable. Africa University is a testimony of what God has done through you. This year affords us an opportunity to reflect, celebrate and reaffirm our commitment to fulfill the mission of this great ministry. You have given to the Africa University Fund apportionment and provided scholarships through your local churches and annual conferences. Thank you for your steadfast support. It has enabled 4,000 young people to graduate from Africa University. Our graduates are remaining in Africa and making a possible difference. Across Africa, our graduates are leading, innovating, sowing hope and healing and meeting Africa’s vital needs. Prayers are being answered and dreams are coming true in ways that impact the lives of millions of people on the continent. United Methodists around the world are at the heart of the AU story. Your capital gifts have turned empty fields and vacant farm buildings into a modern, well-equipped campus. Not only have you given your gifts, but many of you have given of your talents, presence and witness to make your Africa University a leading university. In true Wesleyan commitment you have guided and sustained the university. Thanks to you, we have a young institution, celebration its accomplishments, but looking to the fu-ture. We’re developing vital new training opportunities and moving toward fiscal sustainability. Our role in providing leaders for other United Methodist initiatives and institutions across Africa is also expanding. In Africa University, United Methodists have created a cornerstone institution for the development of church-related higher education in Africa. But the work is by no means finished. Africa University needs your prayers. We need your continuing support to secure and strengthen this ministry as it serves God, all the time, everywhere in Africa. The people of Africa. The people of Africa thank you for your vision that began 20 years ago. Grace and Peace be with you. Dr. Fanuel Tagwira Vice Chancellor Africa University
