AUM Business
From the Office of the Dean
Welcome to the second issue of AUM Business, an annual report for alumni
and friends of the College of Business at Auburn Montgomery. Academic
year 2013-14 was an exciting time for us. We were approved to
become AUM’s first College on campus, hosted the 31st annual Forum for business leaders in the River Region, earned reaccreditation from AACSB
putting us in the top 1 percent of colleges and schools of business
internationally (and the only one in the River Region), and launched a new
strategic plan focused on three pillars: Students 1st, Innovation and
Outreach.
Last year’s issue of AUM Business introduced you to the annual report
calendar and touted the many accomplishments of the School of Business
(now a College of Business) and its faculty. This year we’d like to dedicate
this issue to our students and their accomplishments. The 2014-15
academic year promises to be another successful year, kicking off with an
internal marketing campaign targeting our student body and focusing on
student engagement. If you visit our building, you’ll see signs of the campaign
sprinkled throughout. But be prepared to help students answer the
question: “R U Handlin’ Business?”
We appreciate your many contributions and support in delivering
quality programs and transforming students’ lives. Because of this support,
we know that you also appreciate the notion of “Students 1st.” The
programs and events described in this report would not have been possible
without the positive engagement and involvement of our Advisory Board
and all our stakeholders. We would especially like to thank our Dean’s Club
members. These individuals have made monetary gifts ranging from $500 -
$1,000 to the College of Business. Thank you!
In closing, I hope you enjoy receiving issues of AUM Business. We truly
appreciate all that you do for the College of Business throughout the year.
Go Warhawks!

The College of Business sent a team of four students to
experience the CFA Competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
These students are pictured above recapping their experiences
at the Advisory Board meeting in April. The CFA Institute
Research Challenge is an annual global competition that
provides university students with hands-on mentoring and
intensive training in financial analysis. Students gain real-
world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst
and are tested on their ability to value a stock, write an
initiation-of-coverage report, and present their
recommendations.

Achievement
On March 28, 2014, the AACSB Board of Directors ratified the
committee’s decision to extend reaccreditation to the business
programs offered at AUM by the College of Business.
Less than one percent of universities worldwide have both business
and accounting accreditations. To receive this recognition, schools
must not only meet specific standards, but deans, faculty, staff and
students must make a commitment to ongoing improvements to ensure
high-quality education is delivered. AUM’s College of Business is the
only university in the River Region to hold this accreditation.
We achieved the stamp of approval - again!

During the 2014 tax season, 11 AUM students volunteered at a free
tax preparation site in Montgomery through the SaveFirst program to
prepare more than 1,200 tax returns for working families.
The students helped the families secure $2.7 million in tax refunds
and saved them $360,000 in commercial tax preparation fees.
AUM students collaborated with more than 550 students from
15 other campuses across the state to assist low-income, working
families. In total, SaveFirst students assisted more than 8,200 families
who claimed $14.9 million in refunds and saved approximately
$2.5 million in commercial preparation fees - a 31 percent increase
in families served compared to the last tax season.
