event working with community members packing 120,528 meals to be sent to Texas to

October 19, 2017 – Crown Point city-wide off the grid…no internet and no digital phone
service…special thank you to building principals and their office staff, Central Office
staff, and the Technology Department all working together ensuring the school day and
dismissal went smoothly…used fax systems (landlines) in buildings to receive calls from
parents while Comcast resolved the issue…great job everyone!

accounts which resulted in an annual savings of $100,000 due to quantity purchasing

The IDOE made a surprise announcement and visit to CPHS on September 28, 2017 and
named CPHS Physics teacher Jerome Flewelling the 2018 Indiana Teacher of the Year…
Mr. Jerome Flewelling is the first CPCSC teacher since 1976 to receive this prestigious
honor - Each year CPCSC opens its nomination period for both Secondary and
Elementary Teacher and Employee of the Year in February (received over 345
nominations this year). Nominations are reviewed by administration and narrowed down
to 15 finalists. In April, Selection Committees made up of community patrons and the
prior year’s CPCSC Teacher and Employee of the Year winners interview the finalists
and complete a rubric for each. The scores are tabulated and the winner for each category
is selected and announced at a School Board Meeting in May. Our 2017-18 Teacher of
the Year winners, secondary level – Mr. Jerome Flewelling, and elementary level – Mrs.
Kathy Midkiff submitted applications for the 2018 Indiana Teacher of the Year in
July…Master teachers and great representatives for our school corporation…very proud
of both

October 8, 2017 Dr. Eineman and Board Vice President Mr. Angel attended a celebration
at Geisen Funeral Home in recognition of 150 years of service to our community. Thank
you for being a tremendous community presence and CPCSC partner. In conjunction
with the celebration there was a Time Capsule that will be opened in 25 years. As part of
the Geisen Time Capsule Project local churches, civic organization and schools
contributed interesting items that represent 2017. All seven elementary schools

Project Inspire – First United Methodist Church of Crown Point in coordination with
CPCSC launched Project Inspire to celebrate the employees of CPCSC and raise money
to help students with financial need to participate in extracurricular activities. The
donations exceeding $6,000 will be used for our neediest students who could not
otherwise participate in our 200+ clubs and afterschool activities – a special “Thank
You” to all involved!

10277D won the Teamwork Challenge Award, the STEM Presentation Award, and the
Excellence Award and qualified to compete at the State Championship in Indianapolis

Angel Wing Project started by artist Collette Miller for the city…painted two life-size

Free $$$ - 21st Century Scholarship Program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up
to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana two-year and/or four-year higher
education institution…as of June 26, 2018, the 21st Century Scholar Progress Report for
the Crown Point High School Class of 2018 states that 96% of students in the program
are on track to earn their 21st Century Scholarship as compared to the state average of
67%

Ocean Camp offered this summer and what the students learned in one week with during
the camp. She also shared how excited her daughter was about the program…thank you
to high school teacher Amanda Cosme and fellow teachers that implemented this camp
U.S. Census data as of July 2017 names the following communities the fastest growing in
NWI – Winfield (#1), St. John (#2), and Crown Point (#3) – schools, safety, and lower
taxes are main factors attracting families to these communities
