The Junior Model United Nations is conducted by returning members of the AU National Model United Nations (NMUN) delegation who bring their knowledge and experience of Model United Nations (MUN) to your students. Augusta University’s NMUN program has participated in the NMUN in New York for the past 10 years. Our NMUN delegation has been recognized each year for excellence in overall delegation preparation, position paper writing, and their active participation. Throughout the conference, Augusta University professors provide JMUN students with assistance in accurately representing their assigned country by encouraging students to remain in character and guiding them to correct positions during formal and informal caucus.

During the simulation, students gain a greater understanding of international relations and diplomacy, as well as the complications encountered when global leaders come together to address global issues. Throughout the conference, students are given the opportunity to deliver speeches to the General Assembly, build coalitions during informal caucusing, and vote on proposed resolutions while adhering to parliamentary procedure. Additionally, the JMUN is an excellent example of how the Social Studies curriculum is applicable and important in many career fields. Student preparation for the JMUN will expand students’ grasp and understanding of geography and the different forms of government around the globe. Students will also develop a greater understanding of how these factors directly impact international relations and the international community as a whole.

While competition tends to naturally develop during MUN simulations, it is essential to remind students that the conference is intended to be an educational experience, first and foremost. Most, if not all, students who participate in MUN conferences develop a new appreciation for the process of peace and international cooperation coupled with an understanding that one must be actively engaged to positively affect change on a local, national, and global level. Augusta University is genuinely excited about being able to offer this experience to area schools and looks forward to working with their students. In addition, it should be noted that schools participating are consenting to have their photos taken and published on the JMUN website and other venues at the discretion of the director.

The school and delegate registration fees cover the costs of the conference, breaks, lunch, and miscellaneous administrative costs. Each school is limited to 20 student delegates. If a school wishes to bring more than 20 students, please contact Nadia Jilani-Hyler.

Each school is permitted two advisors at no additional cost. Each additional advisor requires a $20 registration fee and completion of an additional registration form. All advisors are expected to help their students maintain professional decorum throughout the entirety of the conference.

Please complete the enclosed registration form as quickly as possible to ensure country assignment. Countries are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Each assigned country

should have two delegates (students) representing. So if you have 20 students attending, they would represent 10 countries.
