The Augusta Seed adventure began in 1977 on the family farm in Mt. Solon, VA! Augusta grew the first couple of seed corn crops right there on the Mt. Solon farm. After the first three years in the seed business the production was taken to the Midwest. Today most of the Augusta production is grown just north of Indianapolis, Indiana. The same spirit and desire to produce quality seed, developed and tested for our sales area, is what drives Augusta to excellence today!

The main thread in the Augusta story is more important today than when we started. Independently owned, family operated, with research for the local areas we sell in! Our family business is like your family business. We strive toward excellence and are gratified as we are successful in helping you to achieve better yields!

In 2013 we released the first of a new class of hybrids. We call them the “DOMINATOR” class. This group of very high yielding, strong performing corns represented maturities from 85 RDM to 117 RDM. They bring more yield to the table and better agronomics than previously possible! Advances in technology are always a help but advances in genetics will trump technology in most situations. This is where Augusta is a leader in the seed industry. At Augusta we access our genetics from nearly every genetics provider in the industry! We also find “gold nuggets” from some independent providers. In many cases we are able to cross genetics from multiple organization and have lines that have never been seen by the industry! Advancing genetics through local research…it sets us apart from the industry!

Quick Reference Technology GuideLL - LibertyLink Traited corn. Allows for the use of Liberty herbicides.

RR - Roundup Ready® Corn 2. Glyphosate tolerant corn. Allows for the use of glyphosate (Roundup Ready®) herbicides.

CL - Clearfield corn. A naturally selected herbicide resistance (non GMO). Allows for Lightning/Pursuit herbicides.

CBLL - Provides season long control of corn borer and glufosinate herbicide tolerance.

GTCBLL - Provides tolerance to applications of glyphosate and glufosinate, plus corn borer protection.

RIB - Refuge in bag. In non-cotton growing counties this allows you to plant your fields without having a structured refuge. In cotton growing counties a structured refuge is still required.

GT - Glyphosate tolerant corn. Allows for the use of glyphosate herbicides.

VT3Pro - Genuity® VT Triple Pro®. Provides above and below ground protection from corn borers and rootworms, along with glyphosate tolerance. Also reduces the refuge requirement from 20% to 5% in non-cotton growing counties. In cotton growing counties it reduces the refuge requirement from 50% to 20%.

GT3000 - Triple stack helps guard against corn borer and corn rootworm in addition to tolerance of in-season applications of both glyphosate and glufosinate herbicides.

GT3111 - Controls both above and below ground pests such as rootworm, corn borer and ear worm. It can be used with both glyphosate and glufosinate herbicide programs. It also has been shown to preserve grain quality by protecting against mycotoxins.

A2340 has outstanding yield potential for its maturity. It will have very good stalks and fast dry down. We recommend that this hybrid be used in a corn/soybean rotation. It is highly adapted to cold soils and no-till ground.

If we would have planted earlier, it would have been dry corn by September 1st. It has short stalks, low ear placement and yields of 200 plus bushels per acre. I am very well pleased.”

Exceptional vigor is the first thing you will notice about this corn. It comes out of the ground quick, pollinates and dries down in short order. It has a small cob with large kernels and above average test weight. The standability of A2852 is also a huge plus.

A2954 has proven to be an excellent hybrid in both stressed and optimal environments. It has tremendous ear flex, which allows for lower populations on tougher soils, but also good top end yield potential if planted under irrigation or bottom land. Expect good standability and quick dry down. We do not recommend this hybrid for corn behind corn situations.

A5658 is a medium sized plant with medium ear placement. It has great ear flex, so plant at 22-26,000 plants per acre on tougher ground. On good dirt or under irrigation, don’t hesistate to push it to the 30-34,000 range. It has excelled in NC, TN, IA, and IL, topping many of the state trials and independent tests (i.e. the F.I.R.S.T. trials).

A0720 has performed admirably under most conditions, but especially when confronted with the stress of dry weather. It waits on rain and maximizes all it gets. This hybrid takes our A0606 and shortens it by about a foot, plus adds a little more ear flex and girth. For best results, use in rotation instead of corn after corn.

This corn has documented 300 bushel capability, but where it really shines is under stressful conditions. It truly is the penultimate go-to hybrid. It is a tall corn, but stands well. Do not expect a flashy plant, but it almost always yields better than it looks. It has a semi-fixed ear, so plant at higher populations for best results.

Some of our highest yields have come from this hybrid. It tends to put 20-24 rows of grain around the ear and has wonderful flex at lower populations. It is medium tall with medium ear placement. It is a good choice for a mid-season silage hybrid. If planting for grain, it is highly recommended that you use a fungicide and plan to harvest around 20% moisture.

A5462 is a 112 day dual purpose hybrid. It is tall and has very good ear flex. Expect good tonnage and excellent feed value. It has very good yield potential as well, which will give you the ability to leave it to shell if necessary. However, due to its size, we highly recommend!

A5562 is a sister line to A5565. It is 3 days earlier and is a very high yielding 112 RDM hybrid. It is slightly taller and higher ear placed than A5565. A5562 has very good standability and excellent grain quality.

“This is our third year planting Augusta. We had A6166GT on the hill behind the dairy and it was a great field of corn making 31 tons per acre. A5566GTCBLL was planted later and we’re chopping it now and it’s making 25 tons per acre. A008VT3Pro will be for earlage or shelling.
