Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) FAQ Sheet

What is the CSFP?

The Commodity Supplemental Food program (CSFP) is the only USDA nutrition program

that provides monthly food assistance specifically targeted at low income seniors. The

CSFP is designated to meet the unique nutritional needs of seniors by supplementing diets

with a monthly package of healthy, nutritious food provided by the USDA.

Who Qualifies?

CSFP has eligibility requirements both income and age. CSFP serves individuals age 60

and over with income at or less than 130% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines ($15,301 for

seniors living alone in 2015).

Why is the program just for seniors?

Seniors regardless of income have different nutritional needs and are more likely to have

difficulty preparing or consuming food due to limited mobility, cognitive impairments,

and other age related conditions.

What is in the food boxes?

The CSFP food package is designated to provide nutrients typically lacking in the diet of

Seniors by including foods that are rich in protein, calcium, potassium, magnesium,

several vitamins and fiber.

CSFP helps to combat the poor health conditions often found in food insecure seniors.

The CSFP boxes will have nutritious foods that are specifically geared towards there

nutrition and well being.

The CSFP food package will include foods such as: Cereal, Fruit Juice, Tuna, Shelf Stable

Milk. Peanut Butter, Pasta, Processed Cheese, Canned Fruits and Vegetables. Foods will

be low in sodium, low sugar, and low fat.

How can I apply for CSFP?

If you or someone you know can benefit from the program, please call Sandra Guzman,

Senior Service Coordinator at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank at 401-942-6325

ext. 1707 or email at [email protected] for more information.

Mrs. Drinkwater

Thursday, August 27 at 1PM Just wait until you see this one-woman comedic show.

The Original Mrs. Drinkwater Presents is a one-woman

show set in an era we all remember so well: when women

wore dresses and wouldn’t think of going into town

without donning hats and gloves; a time of ballroom and

swing dancing to the big band sounds, and seeing that

“special someone”. When we meet Josie Drinkwater, she

is a senior lady, widowed, and living with her daughter,

Lana Bossoni. Then there’s her son-in-law, the Doc, or

The Boss as Josie calls him, and her granddaughter Janice.

Into the mix is Josie’s best friend Connie Bevilacqua.

There’s a host of other folks who make up Josie’s special

neighborhood in Boston, in the mid-1950’s. The show is a

comedy about family and friends, and the themes are

universal; as Josie tells us, the setting could be “Little

Anywhere, USA”….. We all have stories to tell”. You

cannot miss this! Make sure to call the center to reserve a

spot at 272-7474.
