P a g e | 3 Comment Article: “New Things”.

“Pearls don’t lie on the seashore. If you want one, you must dive for it.” - Chinese proverb If you keep doing things the same way you always have, you will easily fall into a rut. To feed your creativity, you have to step out and try new things. Satisfy your thirst for something different and reap the rewards. Such as: Increased confidence – Going out on a limb to try something new takes confidence. Showing yourself that you have what it takes will only make you feel better about yourself. You will surprise yourself and realize the potential you’ve held all along. Appreciation for yourself – Do you really appreciate yourself for all you do and are capable of doing? Trying a new thing, whether it’s a new look, a new hobby, or a new motto, will help you to appreciate what you’re really made of. Self-love is incredibly important. Learning a new skill – Many times the thing you’ll be interested in trying involves learning a new skill. You may be afraid of failing, but don’t let that stop you. With practice and persistence, you will gain a cool new skill or hobby to add to your repertoire. It’s a good feeling and greater asset. Helps you break out of a rut – A great way to break you out of your mundane routine is to do something you’ve never done before, or try something you’ve never tried. Wake your brain up and tell it that you’re not just here to go through the motions. You’re here for a purpose! Now imagine doing something new and different to benefit “others” and not for yourself? See you in worship! Pr. Mortenson

Did You Know?

• The last season in the Christian Church year is the season of Pentecost?

• Originally, the name Pentecost referred to a Jewish harvest festival known as the Festival of Weeks.

• The season of Pentecost is the longest season in the Christian Church year.

• It begins the Monday following the Day of Pentecost and lasts until the season of Advent begins.

• The Season of Pentecost lasts anywhere between 22 and 27 weeks, depending on when Easter takes place.

• We do not know when the season of Pentecost began.

• Christians have been celebrating the Day of Pentecost prior to the second century.

• It is believed they began celebrating “the season of Pentecost” around the second to third century.

• The season of Pentecost is often referred to as the non-festival half of the church year because during this time the Christian Church does not celebrate a major festival commemorating the life of Jesus.

• During the season of Pentecost, the Christian Church focuses on the teachings of Jesus.

• Do you have any idea what week in Pentecost this is?

President’s Article I was sitting at home after our inaugural Art Fair. A storm had blown through (literally) and sent everyone that was outside scrambling. Gazebos took off like umbrellas and needed rescuing. The items had to be hurriedly gathered and taken inside. The temperature dropped about 20 degrees in a matter of minutes, and then the sky opened up. It is amazing the power of these storms. After all was sorted out and put back where it needed to go, I went home which leads me back to the start of my story. I was sitting at home looking out of the window at the thunderstorm as the rain continued to fall. I had this overwhelming calming feeling. I couldn’t help thinking how powerful these storms are but yet how they also provide a sense of peace. I compare this to my perception of the power of GOD. We have been trying to get the All Saints name out in the community this summer. We marched in the 4th of July parade; we had our blood drive during the following week. We just had our first Art Fair as I mentioned before. Finally, we are preparing to participate in the Oak Creek National Night Out in August. Come join us. If you are vacationing yet this summer please be safe. If you are able, please join us in worship or join us at the National Night Out event. GOD’s peace be with you. Christian Education At the date this article is being written (mid-July), our first ever How Great Thou Art Fair just occurred. What a success and what an active day it was for our church. What strikes me is the wide range of engaged members, spanning all 3 of our liturgies coming to support our congregation. This was also an excellent community event. Thank you to Pj and Kinga for coming up with the idea and for leading the charge, and to everyone who worked the event – youth and children included. There are some families in our church that spent almost the entire day volunteering various aspects of the How Great Thou Art Fair. Entire families. Think about what powerful message that is teaching not just their own children, but everyone who was there. That “leadership by example” instills very deep roots in the youth that they will take with them forever. They may waiver in and out of church commitment and involvement over their lives, but the groundwork is there. How absolutely wonderful. Please note your calendars for a change in participation at National Night Out in the local communities. We will NOT be participating at the Franklin or South Milwaukee NNO’s – only the Oak Creek event on Tuesday, August 6th. Please stop by to visit with us or help if you can. We also just had a special day for Kobi Maley who celebrated his First Communion. Congratulations and prayers for you, Kobi! Thank yous to Dale Hochevar, John Montague, Pam Kawczynski for your work in the background on this celebration. The next Christian Education meeting is August 17th at 6 p.m. and it will be an important one, planning for the start of SCS. The focus and lessons this year will be on the New Testament history. We really need, appreciate and welcome you to the meeting if you have an interest and can help in any way. Thank you so very much to everyone who gives their support and time and work to our Christian Education. God Bless you all! Leanne Buttke 2019 Christian Education Chairperson

Financial: “Please remember your Church over the summer” Thanks to Easter and a great craft fair, our financial situation looks good for the month of April. | The problem is that this normally does not last, and it would be great if we could have giving consistent with what we see around the Lenten season. We operate on a very tight budget, and any significant drops in giving have a significant impact on our ability to pay our bills. It is important that you are consistent with your giving throughout the year, as our bills continue to come. Please consider how you can be consistent with your monthly giving. April allowed us to turn the corner as our giving was $12,000 more than our expenses. Let’s work together on making June another great month for the church’s financial situation. Please consider using Simply Giving to be consistent with your gift to the church. If you have any questions about how to use Simply Giving or to order gift cards on-line, please contact me. If you have any questions about the finances of the church or if you would like to participate in the finance committee, please feel free to contact me either by phone or my e-mail listed in the Revealer. We meet at 6:15 pm on the Thursday prior to the church council meeting every month, and we would love to have you join us. Thanks to Barb Schrubey, Denise Kalski, and Leanne Buttke for their help on the finance committee. Sincerely, Sean P. Kingston, Finance Chair

How Great Thou “ART”

The first one is the hardest or so they say! We have a dream. We have a vision! Not only for All Saints, but for our surrounding community as well. Picture the day, when the “back forty” is filled with art exhibitors from all around the state. Picture the tents…hear the music…see all the people coming to the event. You have to start out somewhere. It doesn’t cost anything to dream. Supposing it were to become a “thing?” How do we encourage this? How do we plan for it? How do we make it happen? We have been blessed with the acreage here – how best can we utilize it? How best can we serve the needs of our community? Bringing “ART” to the area is just “one thing” – what else can we bring?

ART FAIR THANK YOU!!!

Many times in the last couple of days, now turned into weeks…I have said, “It takes a whole church!” The recent “Art Fair” – “How Great Thou “ART” could have never been accomplished were it not for the work of the church. The areas of need were overwhelming: Posters, News releases, local advertizing, finding and contacting artists, the signage inside and out, creating signs, moving signs, council’s involvement, committee meetings, setting up the raffles, selling tickets, purchasing the TV, doing a lay out for the artists, constant contact with the artists, moving tables, hauling chairs, tons to remember along the way…all of it so very important. Thank you to all of you for your donations of foods, paper products, gift cards. To all who were involved in any way – what-so-ever – our heartfelt thanks… Now if it can become an annual event during the summertime…that would be perfect. We have a vision for the future. We have a plan. We hope that you will be a part of the vision and plan and help us to execute it all over again, next July! But until then …

GIVING ENVELOPES Please do us a favor… For those of you using regular weekly giving envelopes please indicate the amount you enclose in your envelope. You don’t have to put your name on the envelope, but we do need to know the amount... The reason: after each liturgy, the Council Person in Charge makes an adding machine tape of all the collection. That tape is kept in case (heaven forbid) the church safe is broken into and we are robbed. This way, with the adding machine tape, we have something to show to the church’s insurance company of what was collected at each liturgy. So – please – no name, but we do need an amount on your envelope. Thanks…

ELECTRONIC GIVING Attached to this issue of THE REVEALER is an Authorization Form to sign up for electronic giving to All Saints. You can have your checking/savings account charged, or you can have your credit/debit card charged. For those of you who always forget to use your giving envelopes, this is a simple and easy way to contribute to the support of YOUR church. Just like your family, the church’s bills come in each month. So why not be consistent in your giving – sign up for electronic giving today. If you have any questions on how to fill out the form, e-mail Barb Schrubey at [email protected]. You can drop the Authorization Form off in the church office. Thanks…

Thrivent “Action Teams”

All Saints Lutheran Church has been the recipient of many “Thrivent Action Teams” in the past. What does that mean? Thrivent Financial provides each “action team” with a $250.00 credit card, T- Shirts, Banner, Thank you cards and Nametags. In order to apply for an “Action Team” you need to be a Thrivent Member. If you are a member of Thrivent and would be interested in helping out our church by hosting an “Action Team” please contact Kathy Mack at (414) 460-9006 for more information! Your help is appreciated! Some of the teams have “sponsored events” such as: The Spring and Fall Craft Fairs, The Youth Easter Breakfast, Blood Drives, The Postal Worker’s Drive to Stamp Out Hunger, The Spring Clean Up of our Church Grounds and the Annual Christmas Cookie Sale. Even though several events have been sponsored by these Thrivent Action Teams, there is always more to do at All Saints…for instance, we need sponsors for the Sunday Church School, The Hat and Mitten and Toy Tree, The Harley Tree, the Fall Clean Up, Fall Flower Sale, Back Packs for Kids and on and on the list can go… Are you a Thrivent Member? Call me, I’d love to converse with you! Please contact Kathy Mack at (414) 460-9006

Property and Grounds.

If you haven’t noticed, the parking lot has been sealed, cracks are filled and the parking spaces have been stripped again. This was done at no charge because of the bad job they did last year. Fall cleanup is not too far away. My next article will have the date, time and lunch details. The last cleanup was amazing. Because of the good turnout we were able to accomplish a lot. Our Church grounds are looking awesome. I just want to thank all of the volunteers that have donated their personal time to keep our grounds looking Beautiful. Respectfully Submitted, Property Chairperson Richard Kahle

Change A Child's Story

It’s tough being a kid these days. There are many things that can make a childhood scary or worse…painful. Thousands of local kids are victims of abuse, neglect, violence, addiction, and other forms of trauma that have required the intervention of the court system. The court system is overwhelmed, and volunteers can make an immediate difference in a child's life. For nearly 20 years, KIDS MATTER INC. has been on the front lines helping abused and neglected children and their caregivers obtain the resources needed to give our most vulnerable neighbors safe, permanent homes. Through the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, KIDS MATTER trains and supports people just like you to take on the volunteer role of a lifetime. CASA volunteers learn everything they can about a child. They meet with teachers, relatives, and social workers and use their judgment to make recommendations to the courts about what is truly in the best interest of the child. KIDS MATTER’s motto is “Every child needs someone in their corner.” For many kids in Milwaukee that someone is a dedicated CASA volunteer. The next training session to become a CASA volunteer begins this October. You can learn more or sign up by visiting www.kidsmatterinc.org/casa, calling (414) 344-1220 or emailing us at [email protected].

Stewardship If you have been reading my stewardship articles in the Revealer, you know that I have been asking our congregation to think about the ways that they can help (both big and small) All Saints. Helping by buying SCRIP cards, volunteering to help out with some of our activities like the 4th of July parade or signing up to be a greeter or usher. If you haven’t been reading these articles, maybe it’s because you haven’t been getting the emails with the Revealer at the beginning of each month!! Maybe we don’t have your current email address! Or maybe we have an email address that you don’t regularly check. Or maybe we have your email address, but you would prefer to receive a pdf of the Revealer sent via text. To increase our ability to communicate with our members, we would like to take a virtual roll call and have you let us know your current email address and phone number and how you would like to receive communication from All Saints. Beginning August 4th, we will be reminding you during Liturgy to complete the communion slip with not only your name and the date but also with your current cell phone number and email address. Please circle your preferred method of communication (via email or text to a cell number). We will use this information to update our files and make sure that you are getting information from the church! Our next Stewardship meeting is scheduled for August 13th at 6 pm – we will be discussing our SCRIP tutorial and planning our Fall Stewardship drive. Please join us!

See you in church,

Lisa Wytrykus Kleppek Stewardship Chairperson

Security Update Our security committee met in July to further our discussion of security at All Saints and begin planning the security protocols that we hope to put into place for our church. At the July council meeting, the council approved adding a security monitor position to the Time and Talent sheet. We are now actively seeking people who might be interested in volunteering for this position to attend our next meeting. Like other helpers at All Saints (ushers, greeters, lectors, etc.), the security monitor would sign up for the liturgy that they normally attend. The security monitor would be responsible for monitoring the door as people come in for worship, secondarily greeting people and making a mental note of any newcomers so that they can be welcomed. Once the doors are locked after liturgy begins, the security monitor would check the door for any latecomers. Finally the security monitor would be responsible for taking the lead and directing evacuations if the need were to arise during liturgy. Because of the responsibilities of this role, we are ideally looking for members with law enforcement, security, military or first responder backgrounds or others with a specific background that might be helpful in ensuring the safety of our congregation. If you think you might be interested in helping our security committee either by helping on the committee or serving as a security monitor, please join us at our next meeting on August 13th at 7 pm. If you have any questions on this position that you would like to discuss before the meeting, please feel free to email at [email protected] or by phone at 414-526-9675. Respectfully submitted, Lisa Wytrykus Kleppek

August 15 Mary, Mother of Our Lord

The Lessons for the Day: Isaiah 61. 7-11, Psalm 34. 1-9, Galatians 4. 4-7, Luke 1. 46-55. On Page 57 in the front of your RED HYMNAL – you will find the prayer for the day, it says there: “Almighty God, in choosing the virgin Mary to be the mother of your Son, you made known your gracious regard for the poor, the lowly and the despised. Grant us grace to receive your word in humility, and so to be made one with your Son, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Yep, it is a day honoring Mary! And at the time of the Reformation, Luther and the other reformers made sure that this date carried over and was saved and not forgotten about.

Did someone say, “Play?”

So, I barked a little bit at the Art Fair, so what? I mean isn’t that what a dog is supposed to do? I was greeting the people! I was letting them know that I am here, guarding and watching the church office…

The next thing I knew, I was placed in a car and driven miles away from the church…no brats, no hot dogs, no nothing…not even an explanation!

Just my buddy, Henry and me, with the whole house to ourselves…did I mention Henry is a cat? Even Henry didn’t want to play! What’s up with people these days…? Playing is fun! Playing gives one exercise! Playing and romping is what dogs (like me) do best!

Worship and Music

Summer is a quieter time liturgically since Pentecost seems to go on and on and on. Not a lot of paraments changes but still plenty to do. Some items to quickly put on your calendar are the outdoor liturgy (and ice cream social!) has been moved from Aug to SEPTEMBER 21st and 22nd. We are hoping to avoid the worst of summer heat this way. Also, the Worship and Music committee is sponsoring the Mum sale this August 25th. We’re getting the same great plants we had last year from CJ’s flowers. And just to increase your understanding of all that is All Saints, have you ever wondered what was under that little tent on the altar? It is called dressing the Chalice and it looks like this:

CELEBRANT

Senior Village

Thursday, July 25th was our annual Senior/Youth Get-to-gether Picnic! As always there was lots of good food, great conversation and a lot of fun. Steve was the grill meister! We had hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, chips and all the to-go—withs… veggie pizza, Lemon Fluff, Potato Salad, Bowtie Pasta Salad…and lots of other stuff besides! A number of All Saints Youth Group members showed up, organized the games and the prizes for the event, Phyllis Runningen does a tremendous job with the young people and with the games… OF SPECIAL NOTE# - is the fact that we had more than 30 present… yeah, it’s that kind of event! So we thought we would list some folks you might recognize: PJ, Jackson LaFond, Eva Brown, Dylan St. Germaine, Benny Brown, Marty Kleppek, Barb Schrubey, Ariana Schroeder, Betty Ford, Sydney Kingston, Carol Frechette, Tyler Kingston, Greg Bauman, Kaity Jolitz, Kathy Bandstra, Sara Jolitz, Cody Jolitz, Marilynn Hager, Hannah Holms, Linda Steinbauer, Natalie Steiner, Karen Bishop, Betty Wittke, Mary Zahn, Steve Uyhely, Helen Haworth, Sherri Schroeder, Sandy Montague, Debbie Krajnak and Phyllis Runningen. (That’s a good turn out!) Debbie Krajnak and Natalie Steiner won at “bags” or “Corn hole” and Sandy Montague and Linda Steinbauer won at “Ladder ball!” Katie Jolitz and Sara Jolitz won in round one of the “Water-Balloon Toss” and Marty Kleppek and Mary Zahn won in round two of the “Water-Balloon Toss.” Then the remainders of the 200 water-balloons were unleashed on a melee-frenzy…like you have never seen before! It was awesome! And you know who stayed dry? The Pastor! Come and join is, next year for sure!

Senior Luncheon

Native American history spans an array of diverse groups and leaders like Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Tecumseh, and event like the Trail of Tears, the French and Indian War and the

Battle of the Little Bighorn.

Years before Christopher Columbus stepped foot on what would come to be known as the Americas, the expansive territory was inhabited by Native Americans. Throughout the 16th

and 17th centuries, as more explorers sought to colonize their land, Native Americans responded in various stages, from cooperation to indignation to revolt.

How much do you know about Native American History?

Just for Laughs…

• A Woman went to the Post Office to buy stamps for her Christmas cards. "What Denomination?" Asked the clerk. "Oh, my goodness! Have we come to this?" said the woman. "Well give me 50 Baptist and 50 Catholic!"

• As the storm raged, the captain realized his ship was sinking fast. He called out, "Anyone here know how to pray?" One man stepped forward. "Aye, Captain, I know how to pray." "Good," said the captain, "you pray while the rest of us put on our life jackets - we're one short."

• A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!" As she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again. As she ran she once again began to pray, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late... But please don't shove me either!"
