    August 2009

The all season is one o my avorite times o the

year or many reasons. Let me share with you

some things that I am looking orward to in the next month or

two as we move into the all season.

Football season is back. Lets ace it, there is no better time o

the year with Friday night ball games, Saturday mornings on the

couch watching ootball, and Sunday NFL games. I love it all.SportsCenter during the late summer is lled with baseball and

soccer highlights oh my. Late summer is like the time leading

up to your wedding day. It stinks, it is hard to be patient, and

you are longing or the day to come. That is my lie rom about

MayJuly as I wait or ootball season.

I love the cool all weather. The all in

Northwest Arkansas is beautiul as we see

the trees change color. I love bundling

up or Friday night games and then

    spending my Saturdays indoors watching

cold weather games. (I am wondering i I

have an addiction to ootball) Hayrides,

Thanksgiving, replaces oh, I love the all.

Thanksgiving is only a ew months away.

Growing up with amily out o state, we

really didnt build a lot o traditions around

Christmas. Instead, Thanksgiving was the holiday that we built

tradition around. Surprise surprise this holiday or the Floyd

amily also revolves around ootball. For many years we woke up

on Thanksgiving morning, headed out to our local high school

stadium or morning practice beore the playo game, came

home and ate Thanksgiving lunch, ell asleep watching ootball,

then attended a bonre/pep rally or the Friday night game. This

is one o my avorite days o the year. Food, un, ootball, and the

    Floyds great combination.

But all also marks a new beginning. Kids start a new school

year. Teams start new seasons. I like new beginnings. I like theopportunity God gives us to start resh. I encourage you to take

advantage o this new beginning. So oten we may think, Well,

next year Ill ocus on this or that. Ill do a New Years resolution

to cover that. Take advantage o the new beginning o all. Is

there some discipline you need to start again? Is there a priority

that you have let all by the wayside? Do you need to start resh

in your walk with God? Maybe you need to reconnect with your

church. Use the all as an excuse to start resh. Biblically, we dont

even have to wait or the all. The Bible tells us that Gods mercies

are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:2223)

Let me encourage you to take advantage o this new beginning

in the all in a ew dierent ways. First o all, use the all as an

opportunity to re-engage with our church. The kids are backin school, businesses are cranking back up, and we all get back

into our normal routines. I encourage you to make the Worship

Service and Connection Group a part o your weekly routine.

Come weekly to join together with the Body o Christ to worship

God and hear His Word preached. Then, connect with a smaller

group o people in a Connection Group

to build relationships and study the Bible

together. Maybe youve never made your

way into a Connection Group remember

the all is a new beginning! Kicko or

Connection Groups will be on August 23.

Take the allyes, pun intendedand join

with a group o believers in a similar stage

    o lie as you.

September 27 will also serve as a new

    beginning o our 10:55 a.m. Worship

Service at our Springdale Campus. Bradley

Noblitt will be leading in worship each Sunday and the preaching

will be a mixture o me twice a month, Pastor Floyd via simulcast/

video at least once a month, and other sta members. As the

Marines say, we are looking or a ew good men. We would say

we are looking or 150 dedicated men and women who will

commit to make this service a success so we can reach more

people with the gospel. We have set out three expectations o

the 150: (1) Attend three Sundays a month, (2) Actively participate

in a Connection Group, and (3) Commit to serve. We will take

all the people interested in the 10:55 service and choose 150

o them who will be committed to these things. So whichever

campus you attend, could it be that God is calling you to joinalongside us in reaching more people through starting and

growing this service? This is open to people rom Springdale and

Pinnacle Hills who may live south and want to attend somewhere

closer to where they live. For more inormation, go to www.bcs.

    eaching Northwest

    Arkansas, America,

    and the World or

    Jesus Christ. Most

    members o First Baptist

    Church o Springdale

    and The Church at

Pinnacle Hills have committed their churchs

mission statement to memory. Without even

a glance toward the large, gold letters resting

proudly above the Worship Center stage at the

Springdale campus, any given church member

might recite by heart the wordsa testament to

a church dedicated to reaching the lost or Jesus.

Reaching Northwest Arkansas, America, and the

World or Jesus Christ. It is a mission statement

that we, as church members, believe ina

purpose we wholeheartedly support, take pride

in, pray or. But just how amiliar are we with

our Missions Ministry? We hear the names o

missionaries spoken rom the stage. We applaud

lives saved in a oreign land. But just how real is

    it or us?

Reaching Northwest Arkansas, America, and the

World or Jesus Christ. On September 1823,

or members on both campuses, this mission

statement, OUR mission statement, will come

to lie. On those days, the people o our church

will have the unique opportunity to embrace

missions like never beore in our churchs history

with the inaugural Acts 1:8 Celebration.

Acts 1:8 declares, But you will have power when

the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be

my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and

Samaria, and to the ends o the Earth. With

the Acts 1:8 Celebration, First Baptist Church

o Springdale and The Church at Pinnacle Hills

will come together in commemoration o our

commitment to the Acts 1:8 mandate. For six

days, both campuses will have the opportunity

to get up close and personal with missions

during a time o celebration that will be

    educational, eye opening, and unorgettable.

The Acts 1:8 Celebration is designed with three

primary goals in mind: Personalize, Celebrate,

    and Mobilize.

Personalize. O the celebration,Doug Sarver, Minister o Global Missions,

says, We want to turn the out-o-sight into

something the people o the church can see,

touch, and eel. During the nearly week-long

    event, ty-eight missionaries rom thirty-three

    dierent ministries representing Northwest

Arkansas, America, and the World will assemble

on both campuses in hopes o bringing

their mission work home to share with us.

Missionaries to the countries o Brazil, Hungary,

China, Honduras, and many others will be inattendance, as well as representatives o such

organizations as Embrace Baltimore, Feed the

Children, and Thirst No More. Each missionary

comes with the desire to share their own

distinct perspective and experiences through a

personalized, intimate approach that will bring

real lie to what they do. Through ministry

    displays, guest speakers, break-out sessions

with topics romAmerica, the Rise and Fall o

Christianityto China and East Arica: How Can You

Make A Dierence, and many more events, the

Acts 1:8 Celebration will turn the spotlight on

    missions like never beore.

Celebrate. With the Acts 1:8Celebration, the church will have the opportunity

to celebrate what God is doing, has done, and

will do in the mission work o both campuses.

By taking a look back over the past year, the

church will be given an exclusive view o our

missions achievements and a peek into our

exciting uture. The Celebration will be a time o

rejoicing over Gods aithulness and witnessing

rst-hand how His blessings have been poured

out upon our missionaries and their ministries.

Mobilize. The Acts 1:8 Celebrationwill also seek to mobilize people or missions.

We want to rally our people into doing and

being, says Sarver. Our prayer is through the

weeks immersion into missions, the hearts o our

people will be gripped like never beore. This

celebration will be a historic moment in moving

our church orward in missions. We want our

people to believe and say to themselves, This is

supposed to be done by ME. The Celebration

is sure to challenge and empower Gods people

    toward the Acts 1:8 objective.

Reaching Northwest Arkansas, America, and the

World or Jesus Christ. On September 1823,

these words will cease to be mere words, a

mission statement on a wall. Instead, they will

be given a ace, a name. They wil l be celebrated.

They will empower. On September 1823, the

words will come alive. I someone misses this

experience, Sarver begins, it will be like missing

what happened at Pentecost. You will be asking,

What happened? Why are all these people so

excited about the gospel? This celebration will

be the single most exciting thing our church

has done to share missions. The opportunities

to get involved in the Acts 1:8 Celebration are

many, so mark your calendars or these six days

in mid-September and prepare yoursel or an

    unorgettable experience.

We want to rally our people

    into doing and beingWe want

our people to believe and say to

    themselves, This is supposed to

    be done by ME.

CampsOver 541 middle and high school students and volunteers attended

Student Camp in Florida and 78 accepted Christ with 58 being

baptized in the Gul o Mexico signiying their eternally changed

lives. May God Be Praised! Almost 200 3rd5th graders and volun-

teers attended Kids Kamp and learned about having Courage Under

Fire. Looking at the stories o Esther, Joshua and Caleb, Daniel, and

others, our children experienced a great time o learning, growing,

and having a great time in a 57 degree lake. May God Be Praised!

Summer Freedom CelebrationOur worship teams have always celebrated God and Country in a

magnicent way. This year with the added presence o Tim Lee, a

Vietnam Veteran, our Summer Freedom Celebration once again

honored our servicemen and women and pointed all people back

to the cross o Christ. Many were in attendance to see and hear

the sights and sounds and were treated to the transormationalmessage o how Jesus led a man through tragedy to triumph.

    May God Be Praised!

Fireworks at the CrossesThis 2nd annual celebration eatured an outdoor estival eel with a

band, tailgaters, hotdogs, ice cream, and a whole lot o ellowshipping

on the lawn. The annual celebration at the crosses was marked by

baptism, symbolizing the death, burial, and resurrection o Jesus.

117 individuals ollowed Christ, displaying their public proession o

aith by being baptized by Pastor in an incredibly moving display o

obedience. God moved miraculously in our congregation and we

saw evidence o His hand on this spectacular night.

The dramatic culmination o the evening was ound in the areas rst

reworks display o the year. Spectators stretched rom the lawn on

the west o the property north to the Village on the Creeks, east to

the Home Depot parking lot, and south to the Coldstone Creamery.

This regional event touched thousands and we were all reminded o

the reason we have to celebrate: reedom rom the tyranny o evil,

both in the United States and through the blood o Jesus. May God

    Be Praised!

Kidapalooza/Adventure WeekBoth o our campuses served the community with a week o high

energy un, Bible study, and praise and worship. Hundreds o

volunteers and kids aged kindergarten through 5th grade learned

about Jesus love and sacrice or all o us. 89 children accepted

Christ and were moved to passionately pursue Jesus through the

decisions they made, and volunteers served their church with joy

and intentionality. Your church is involved in reaching the

community and each o these kid-ocused weeks brought hundreds

to our campuses to hear about the lie-changing story o Jesus.

    May God Be Praised!

A Fantastic Summer!Clint Smith, Minister of Spiritual Development - Springdale Campus & Mike Daniels, Campus Pastor - Pinnacle Hills Campus

Our ministries this summer have been antastic! We have seen record numbers in almost every conceivable area

but most importantly, we have experienced Gods hand move miraculously in our midst. Lets take a moment and

give thanks or all He has done this summer.
