3 INTRO TO SCUBADIVING

Challenge and reward yourself at the same time. Come along with Outdoor Recreation as we traverse multiple trails in search of castle ruins and then reward ourselves with the beauty that nature gives by looking out over inspiring vistas or ponder the quiet serenity of nature, reclaiming a castle wall slowly, over time. On this hike we will climb to at least 3 different ruins. At the last stop we will reward ourselves with a coffee and cake break at the café atop the hill.

Aug 20

4 3 DAY CASTLE HIKE

This is your chance to get in touch with your inner child (and have a fantastic time spending time with your children). Come with us to wander barefoot over a 2.5 km path that is dotted with various surfaces to ‘feel’ with your feet. Stroll through mud, wander over sand, and skip around on the forest floor – all without the constraints of shoes. The park has a BBQ and picnic area as well as lockers to

rent for storing valuables. Aug 23

8 BAREFOOT PARK TRIP

Opened in 1929, Erlebnis-park Tripsdrill is Germany’s oldest amusement park and welcomes over 600,000 people each year. Come along with Outdoor Recreation as we see for ourselves why so many people return time and time again to

this park. Aug 13

WHAT THE HECK IS VAT? Germany imposes a Value-Added Tax (VAT) of either 19% or a reduced rate of 7% on most items/services purchased. This tax is similar to a sales tax in the U.S. but it is generally already added into the price. That means the sticker price already includes either the 19% or 7% VAT.

The full rate of 19% is charged on most items/service. The reduced rate of 7% is charged on basic food staple items (milk, flour, eggs, etc), some magazines, books, hotel stays, etc. Some services and some used items

may not include a tax that can be extracted.

Department of Defense personnel stationed in or TDY to Europe may be eligible to use the U.S. Forces Tax-Relief Program to avoid paying this tax for their personal purchases. In other words, you may be able to have the sticker price reduced by extracting the 19% or 7% VAT when making qualifying purchases through a U.S. Forces VAT Office.

International Agreements between the U.S. and Germany permit U.S. Forces to procure tax-free goods and services for eligible members. Please

be aware that there are restrictions and that intentional or unintentional abuse of the program will lead to personal tax liabilities, expulsion from the program, Commander or Supervisor notification, and it may be considered a punishable tax evasion.

VAT forms can be purchased by visiting the VAT office in Bldg. 2915, 3rd Floor, Panzer Kaserne.

Knowing when, where, and how to utilize this program is important to stay out of trouble. The following are examples of purchases where the sticker price may be reduced by extracting the 19% VAT:

NAF SUPPORT DIVISION

Often overlooked as a Family and MWR function, is the Value Added Tax (VAT) and Utility Tax

Avoidance Program (UTAP). The VAT program in Stuttgart alone saves customers over 5 million euros annually and

UTAP offers roughly 25% from your overall total utility bill.

That extra money sure comes in handy when you want to

enjoy traveling while you are in Europe!

• Vehicle purchases and repairs/ maintenance/car parts• Clothing• Furniture

• Electronics• Rental Cars • Minor home repairs• Heating Oil

• Many grocery items (non-basic food staple items)• Restaurant bills

Examples of purchases where the sticker price may be reduced by extracting the reduced 7% VAT:• Basic grocery items (food staple items), Some magazines/books and Hotel stays. The reduction of the sticker price occurs when an eligible U.S. Forces member presents the vendor with a valid VAT form when the order is being placed for an item or service. Processing tax-relief after an order was placed or commitment was made by the individual is not authorized. The program is voluntary. German vendors are not required to accept VAT forms; they can opt to decline and charge the VAT. In such a case you may want to seek a different vendor.

How to $AVE THOUSAND$ each year.1

VAT & UTAP BREAKDOWN: NEED TO KNOW

WHY SHOULD I VISIT THE UTAP OFFICE? UTAP can save you hundreds of dollars annually off your utilities. With UTAP you will save 19% Value Added Tax on electric and gas. Additionally, in some states select companies can save up to 11% additional cost per kwh on electricity tax and up to 7% on gas (Eco Tax).
