RCIA: if you are an adult, not baptized or baptized other than Catholic baptism, and thinking about join-

ing the Catholic Church, the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults is a class to know the Catholic Church more and eventually get initiated or fully accepted into the Catholic faith. The instruction/formation approximately runs for a year (10 months). Formation here at Sacred Heart-St Louis starts in September on Thursday evenings and initia-tion happens at the Easter Vigil. If you or a friend or family member is interested, please cal the office at 503-72-4231 to get signed up.

UNA PALABRA DE PADRE SANTIAGO

¡Hola familia parroquial! Rezo para que todos estén pasando por estos días calurosos. Afortunadamente, creo que para cuando estés leyendo esto, experimentaremos un clima un poco más frío. Hay cuatro cosas breves, pero importantes, que me gustaría llamar su atención esta semana sin ningún orden en particular:

Próximamente en septiembre, comenzaremos nuevamente las clases de RICA. Este año nos vamos a reunir los jueves por la noche. Si conoce a alguien que podría estar interesado en aprender más sobre la fe católica y posiblemente unirse a la iglesia, o si usted está leyendo esto y no es católico y podría considerar esa posibilidad, comuníquese con la oficina de la parroquia.

Este año, nuestro Picnic Parroquial está programado para el domingo 19 de agosto después de la misa de las 10 am Planee venir a este evento parroquial. Es un buen momento para ponerse al día sobre varias actividades de verano y conocer un poco mejor al nuevo pastor.

Hablando de tu nuevo pastor, estoy en comunicación con el Padre Coleman, nuestro Vicario local Forane, a quien el Ar-zobispo Sample me ha pedido que me instale oficialmente como párroco de nuestra parroquia. La fecha pronto será anunciada.

Finalmente, durante estos calurosos días, queremos mantener en oración a todos nuestros hermanos y hermanas que están siendo afectados por los incendios forestales de este año y también rezar por aquellos que están luchando contra estos incendios. Que Dios los proteja a todos.

This festival of the Assumption honors Mary’s return home to the Father. Mary’s home is wherever the Holy Spirit leads her. Our true home is wherever the Holy Spirit leads us. Like Mary, all our life we must respond faithfully to the Holy Spirit. On August 15, we celebrate Mary, who was always faithful to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and was lifted up body and soul into heaven. Let us prepare for this celebration by reflecting on how faithful we have been to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

A WORD FROM FATHER JAMES / UNA PALABRA DE PADRE SANTIAGO Hello Parish Family! I pray that you are all making it through these hot days. Thankfully, I think that by the time that you are reading this, we will be experiencing a bit more cooler weather.

There are four brief, but important things that I would like to bring to your attention this week in no particular order:

Coming up in September, we will be starting the RCIA classes again. This year we are going to be meeting on Thursday evenings. If you happen to know someone that might be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and possibly joining the church or if you happen to be reading this and are not Catholic and might want to consider that possibility, please contact the parish office.

This year our Parish Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 19th after the 10 am Mass. Please plan to come to this parish event. It is a good time to catch up over various summer activities and get to know the new pastor a bit better.

Speaking of your new pastor, I am in communication with Fr. Coleman, our local Vicar Forane, who Arch-bishop Sample has asked to officially install me as the pastor of our parish. The date is soon to be an-nounced.

Finally, during these hot days, we want to keep in prayer all of our brothers and sisters that are being affected by this years’ wildfires and also pray for those who are fighting these fires. May God watch over and protect them all.
