Have you ever experienced a “God
moment” or heard someone say that
they have experienced a “God
moment”?
You know what I’m talking about –
those times when you know that God
is present and that the only way that something could
have happened is if God intervened.
All summer long we’ve been exploring different ways
that God shows up in our day to day lives – I’ve called
our summer series the “Sacred Ordinary” – and each
week I’ve proposed a different way that God appears
that we might not expect.
Let me share with you one way that God showed up for
me this summer. As many know, I spent some time
back in North Dakota with my family. A trip to my
hometown always means a stop by the Good Samaritan
center where my great aunt Evie lives. She always has a
huge smile on her face, always quick to give hugs and
finds the positive in everything. It is clear that she loves
all people and that feeling is returned by people who
have gotten to know her over the years.
Evie has not lived an easy life; in fact, she has probably
had her share of difficulties along with two or three
other people’s share. Even though she would have all
the right in the world to have a less than happy outlook
on life, she is always upbeat and if you bring up
something that isn’t so pleasant she will quickly look at
you and say, “whatcha gonna do? It is what it is” and
she quickly flashes her beautiful smile that says she
means it. We all have choices in life; we can either let
the little things bother us or we can be thankful that we
have a life to live and get over the stuff that weighs us
down. Evie is always grateful for my visit and is thankful
that I have brightened her day. Little does she know
that she has brightened not only my day but my week
and given me an attitude adjustment about how I need
to approach most things.
How many of us can benefit from having an attitude of
gratitude instead of an attitude of being disappointed
when we don’t get what we want when we want it or
how we want it. My guess is many of us could benefit
from Evie’s philosophy of being thankful for what God
has given us because it’s always more than we
deserve.
My prayer for all of you this summer has been that you
can find God in the midst of the ordinary. God is right
there, in the midst of our brokenness, our struggles, our
pettiness, our ambivalence, our suffering, our joys, our
celebrations our excitement. God is present in the
midst of all things and I hope you take the time to find
God’s presence in the midst of your “ordinary”.
Shalom,

MEMBER INFORMATION NOW HIRING!
CURATOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRIES
The Leadership Team of Peace Lutheran Church is posting the
following position, with the hopes of hiring someone in the near
future. This will be a part-time position and all of the details can
be found on our website at peaceoshkosh.com.
If you have any questions about the position, please feel free to talk
with a member of the Leadership Team.
For more information, please go to our website:
wwwpeaceoshkosh.com.
“May I ask a question?” Ben asked.
“Of course, go ahead, ask your question,” replied the
pastor.
“Well, the Bible says that the children of Israel crossed
the Red Sea, continued Ben, also the children of Israel
built the temple, the children of Israel did this and the
children of Israel did that. Didn’t the grown-ups ever
do anything?”
A Sunday school teacher was walking around her
classroom while her kindergarten students drew
pictures. One little girl was scribbling so intently that
the teacher asked what she was drawing.
The little girl replied, “I’m drawing a picture of Jesus.”
The teacher said, “Oh honey, nobody really knows for
sure what Jesus looked like.”
The little girl, without missing a beat, responded,
“They will in a minute!”

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School Kicks Off on September 9
Sure, nobody likes to think about summer coming to an end, but the seasons change and that means a new
Sunday School Year will be here soon. Our program will resume on Sunday, September 9, at 9:15am. As usual,
we’ll have something very special planned for our first session.
Sunday School is open to all children from Pre-K through 8th grade. Kids do not have to be members of Peace to be
part of our program. It is necessary, however, that each participating child is registered. Enrollment Forms are
available in the PLC office or for download on the PLC web site.
We appreciate advance registration — it helps with planning — but children can be enrolled at any time. Just bring
them to the Sunday School Opening on Sundays at 9:15 in the Social Center, fill out a
registration form, and they’re in.
Our program this year will again include traditional Bible study
coupled with fun activities and crafts that reinforce scripture. There
will also be service projects to involve kids in church services,
caring for the congregation, and helping our local and global
community. Oh yeah... and Bible Bucks, too.
Three of the teachers we had last year are not able to continue, so
we’re looking for replacements. This is a great opportunity to make
a real difference in the lives of our youngest members. You don’t
need to have teaching experience, just a genuine sense of mission
and a willingness to share Christian faith with kids.
If you’re interested in teaching, or have any questions about
Sunday School, contact Pat or E.R. Waskawic by phone
(920-685-5396) or by email at [email protected].
Let’s go!
