It is my pleasure to share with you the most up-to-date plan for our building project. Although we will be working through many details during this complicated project, we now have a clear picture for the design which we expect will match the budget. The design image is also linked to a new presentation showing details of the expected interior and exterior. We are having weekly meetings with our building team as we finalize our construction schedule. Construction schedule details are NOT final and when they are final we will email them to you. We are aiming for staging construction equipment during Halloween weekend. We expect a good portion of the parking lot to be fenced off and we will provide new parking instructions and a re-striped parking/drop off area. We expect the Tantra drop off to remain fully functional. The foundation work will begin at the start of November and the goal is to complete the entire 17,000 square foot addition by July. The music portable, which is the only portable currently in use, will be removed in mid- October and all music classes will be relocated to the cafeteria; specific details for music students will be provided shortly. In addition to our expansion, we also have 20,000 square feet of renovations that we plan to complete. As more details on the impact of the schedule emerge, I will share that information. Our current expectation is that all students will remain on campus in classrooms until the entire project is complete. We appreciate your patience and attention to our school community needs as we grow through this incredible milestone together. -Adam August 28, 2015 Principal’s Column Boulder Valley School District Summit News Calendar September 30: 8th grade girls’ volleyball begins October 2: Vision and Hearing Screening, 8 am October 7: Collaboration Day, late start, class begins at 9:00 am International Walk to School Day October 8: Parent/Teacher Conferences, half day for students, 8-12:15 October 9: Parent/Teacher Conferences, half day for students, 8-12:15 October 12: Summit Day, no school October 13: Picture retake day, 3:05 pm October 14: Parent Connections, 8 am School Accountability Committee Meeting, 6:30 pm October 21: Collaboration Day, late start, class begins at 9:00 am October 22: Summit Soiree October 14: Parent Connections, 8 am October 23: Counselor/Parent Talk 8-9 am SUMMIT MIDDLE SCHOOL

by Cece Davis Assistant Principal

The Partnership for 21st Century

Learning reminds us that our

students need to be doing more in

their learning than becoming

knowledge or content experts they

also need to be building foundational

skills thinking systems and habits

that will enable them to navigate

their complex future worlds One

focus area of 21st century learning

is

INITIATIVE AND SELF-DIRECTION

Manage Goals and Time

Set goals with tangible and

intangible success criteria

Balance tactical (short-term) and

strategic (long-term) goals

Utilize time and manage workload

efficiently

Work Independently

Monitor define prioritize and

complete tasks without direct

oversight

Be Self-directed Learners

Go beyond basic mastery of skills

andor curriculum to explore and

expand onersquos own learning and

opportunities to gain expertise

Demonstrate initiative to advance

skill levels towards a professional

level

Demonstrate commitment to

learning as a lifelong process

Reflect critically on past experiences

in order to inform future progress

The strength of our Summit

curriculum and experience supports

this focus area Students are asked

everyday to manage priorities work

independently and continue to

expand their expertise Here is a

sample of the many ways our

students are growing in initiative and

self-direction

In Ms Perlickrsquos 7th Grade social
