The assembly stands at the direction of the presiding minister.

CALL to WORSHIPCALL to WORSHIP Be present today, O God, in a special way!Be present today, O God, in a special way!

P We gather to worship our God, C who made the world and declared it “Good!” P We gather to follow Jesus, C who said, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.” P We gather to be filled with the Spirit, C who anoints us so we can evangelize our world.

ACT of CONFESSION and ASSURANCE of PARDONACT of CONFESSION and ASSURANCE of PARDON We confess trusting that God forgives and renews.We confess trusting that God forgives and renews.

P Blessed be God, the Father of all mercies, whose ever-flowing stream of steadfast love is our hope for life and salvation. C Thanks be to God.

P Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. C Amen.

Page 3: August 27, 2017 - St. Peters Union Church 27, 2017.pdf · HYMN of the DAY We rejoice together ... SSSending COMMISSIONING and BLESSING ... Celebration Hymnal #404 QUIET MEDITATION

P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us;

but, if we confess our sins, God – who is faithful and just – will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Silence for reflection and self-examination.

P God of resurrection and redemption, C we have failed to be good stewards of your life-changing word; to confess our faith in Christ as boldly as Peter. Forgive us for hoarding the good news of your love as if it were our own private promise from you. Call us again to be apostles of Jesus Christ. Send us forth in the power of your Spirit to renew the face of the earth. Amen.

P Almighty God, for the sake of Jesus and his Gospel, forgives us all our sins and calls us once again to be messengers of the good news. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

P Let us pray. O God, your Son came among us to serve and not to be served, and to

give his life for the life of the world. Renew our faith in you that we might confess with our lives the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Through us give hope to the hopeless, love to the unloved, peace to the troubled, good news to those who have not heard the Gospel, and rest to the weary, through the same Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C Amen The assembly may be seated.

In response to God’s merciful activity, we are wo worship by living holistic, God-pleasing lives.

Our values and viewpoints are not molded by this age, but are transformed by the Spirit’s re-

of ministry function to build up the body of Christ.

the Son of the living God,” and Jesus responds with the promise of a church that will

overcome the very gates of hell.

HYMN of the DAY

We rejoice together in the heart of our faith: Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less Celebration Hymnal #526

CONFESSION of FAITH

P We are God’s people through our baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, let us confess our faith. C I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only begotten Son, our Lord; who was

conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell;

on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven,

and is seated on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from

thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the commun-

ion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
