We have returned home safely.
Thank you so much for all your prayers for our travels. On our last Sunday as a group in
Namalaka, Marie gave a speech of thanks and summarized our goals for the re-signing for
another 3 year covenant. Here is an excerpt of that: "Let us renew our Sister Parish
relationship as equals who all have something of themselves to share, our God given gifts and
talents. Our future looks bright as we expand the school feeding program
to Lungwena (a large neighboring school), support the women group in
starting small business ventures, invite a new delegation from St. Joseph
to visit us in the US in the fall of 2019, promote further connections
between persons of each parish using technologies available like What's
App and committing to regular communication between parishes to share
our news and information. Together we have experienced the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit in
our encounters with one another. Our fruitful visit has filled us with a
future full of Hope." We plan on organizing a slide show and trip report in
the near future to share all that we experienced.

Old Testament
DAVID KING OF ISRAEL
2 Samuel 5; 1-12
King Saul and his son Jonathan
were killed in battle. That left the
kingship of Israel open to the
strongest person. David had always
been loyal to King Saul even during
the times when Saul was his enemy.
Why had he been loyal?—because
Saul had been anointed by the Lord
to be King of Israel. Saul had one
son who lived through the wars and
wanted to be the King of Israel. But
the people of Israel, one tribe after
another, declared that David should
be their ruler, not only because he
was a strong soldier, but because
the prophet Samuel had anointed
David while Saul was still alive. The
twelve sons of Jacob had become
the twelves tribes of Israel. As time
went by, the families who were de-
scended from Judah and Benjamin
stayed in the south near Jerusalem.
The other tribes stayed in the north.
New Testament
JESUS BLESSES THE CHILDREN
Mark 10: 13-16
Children are the delight of their
parents. The hope of every parent is
that their child will come to love God
and grow up to be a kind and loving
person. Imagine how excited the
families were when they learned that
Jesus was coming near their town or
village.
They hurried out to have Jesus bless
their children. The disciples thought
that Jesus had more
important work to do and “shoo-ed”
the families away. But Jesus showed
how much he loved children by
saying, “Let the children come to me
and do not stop them.” Jesus said
that the kingdom of heaven is made
up of those people who believe with
the faith of a child.
LEARNING ABOUT
OUR FAITH
Models of the
Catholic Church
PEOPLE OF GOD
From ancient times
God has been
choosing people to
be part of his plan
to bless the world.
We call the Church
the People of God
BODY OF CHRIST
When Jesus walked
on the earth with
us, we could see his
body. Now that
Jesus is in Heaven,
he has not
abandoned us.
We are the hands
and feet of Jesus,
his Body on earth.
TEMPLE OF THE
HOLY SPIRIT
The Church is not a
physical temple
made with hands.
Instead, the Church
is a Temple where
God lives in our
hearts, as we love
Him and serve the
world.

ST. BRENDAN’S LADIES BOOK CLUB We're hoping everyone's having a marvelous summer with
lots of time to relax and READ! We're making the lazy
month of August an easy-read month for everyone. We've
selected two small but powerful books. The first is the
classic Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and
the second written by John William Wennberg, The Empty
Chair - How God Came to Find Me. Many of you may
remember John as he was a parishioner here for many
years. We have invited John to join us for our August
meeting to share his story and perhaps autograph some
books. Come join the fun as we meet in the Brendan House
dining area this Monday, August 27th at 7pm. Questions?
Call Berni at 425-485-4893 or Anneliese at 425-486-4225.
“WE ARE A FRATERNITY UNITED IN CHARITY.”
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS [RCIA] What do Catholics believe? Are they Christian? Do they
worship Mary? These are some of the questions people
who are not Catholic wonder about.
Are you someone wondering about the answers to these
questions? Would you like to explore the Catholic Faith or
become Catholic yourself? Have you been baptized in the
Catholic Faith but never went to formal classes or celebrat-
ed your First Communion or Confirmation? Or are you
someone who is Catholic but would like to renew your faith
as an Adult?
If you answered yes to any of these please consider
becoming part of the RCIA process. We will begin meeting
weekly on Monday night September 10th at 7pm in Lower
Brendan.
For more information or to sign up for RCIA email Pat Ibach
at [email protected] or call 425-483-9400 ext. 2643.

Every person’s finances
and family situation is dif-
ferent. Jesus makes it
clear that it matters not
how much one gives, but
that it is planned, calculat-
ed, at least some-
what sacrificial (see Luke
24:1-4), and not simply
from what is “leftover” at
the end of the month. We
propose the tithe (10%) as
the ideal every family can
consider working to-
wards. This means taking
steps to give 5% to one’s
parish, and 5% to other
