International Agenda on Youth United Nations declared 2010 as the International Year of

Youth: Dialogue and Mutual Understanding.

One of the main events of this year is the World Youth Conference Mexico 2010.

The WYC 2010 constitutes a unique opportunity to analyze the level of fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals.

25th anniversary of the International Year of Youth 1985.

12th anniversary of the Lisbon Declaration on Youth.

15th anniversary of the United Nations World Action Programme for Youth.

10th anniversary of the Millennium Declaration.

Mexico celebrates the Bicentennial of the Independence and the centennial of the Revolution.

General Objective

To find priorities of action on youth issues to be included in the international agenda for development beyond the Millennium Goals.

Specific Objectives

1. To elaborate by consensus a Governments’ Declaration that identifies action priorities on youth and development to be submitted in the 65th Session Period of the United Nations General Assembly;

2. To promote the setting of a mechanism to give specific follow-up to the youth agenda at the UN;

3. To promote dialogue between civil society organizations, governments and parliamentarians on youth and development policies and to have a better understanding of priorities and needs of world youth;

4. To share experiences and knowledge on diagnosis, policies and programs on youth and development.

Social Forum

The agreements that will derive from the WYC 2010 emerge from the dialogue between youth and governments; respond to the needs and demands of young men and women of the world; and promote the participation of all the social sectors, starting with youth.

It is a space of expression for youth in which the Global Meeting of NGOs and the Interactive Youth Forum will take place.

It is expected to have two NGO representatives per country.

The recommendations achieved in this Forum will be delivered to the Governments’ Forum.

From the publication of the Internet call (February 9th), more than 2000 emails have been sent to NGOs in the five continents with a registration invitation.

We have managed to establish links with international platforms that have substantially contributed to the Conference's socialization.

Registrations received so far come from young people from 60 countries of the five continents.

1. Focus on Youth: The NGO postulating the young delegate must have a focus on youth subjects and/or be integrated by youth.

2. Age: The representative must be between 18 and 35 years old.

3. Gender: Gender equality will be an important criteria in selecting NGO representatives to attend the Global Meeting of NGOs.

4. Equality of opportunities for big and small NGOs: We will count on a balance of big, professional NGOs and small NGOs with local initiatives when selecting the delegates.

5. Topics: selected NGOs must demonstrate significant work on at least one of the eleven topics to be discussed at the WYC 2010.

6. Experience in advocacy: The NGO postulating the delegate shall demonstrate experience advocating for youth. This criteria will be cleared when evaluating the registration formats in the Open Questions section. If necessary, we will ask the delegate for more information about the activities carried out by his/her NGO.

7. Non lucrative: The NGO must be non-profit .

FEBRUARY 9: The registration process for the Global Meeting of NGOs begins through the Conference’s website www.youth2010.org

APRIL 9: The Social Forum Coordinator, through the Focal Point for the Global Meeting of NGOs shall have the complete list of registered representatives once the call for applications closes.

MAY 7: Online publication through the webpage www.youth2010.org of the definitive list of delegates that will participate at the Global Meeting of NGOs for August 23rd to the 24 2010, within the WYC Mexico 2010.

Participation as delegates (with right to speak and vote) inside the Global Meeting of NGOs.

Travel expenses (hotels and food) and plane tickets from their countries of origin will be covered during the the Conference.

The NGO he/she represents will have access to a space inside the informative fair of the Interactive Youth Forum without cost where to show the work they carry out.

The SOFOC is a body for assessment and consultation that supports the planning of the activities carried out by the Social Forum through its recommendations.
