Message froM PV Manager

Merry Sinacore Hi, everyone! Hope all had a very nice 4th of July. Here at Plantation Village we had a blast. The event was a great success and everything was wonderful, food decorations and prizes. Look on PV News to see the pictures of the 4th. Plantation Village Co-op was also fortunate to have been able to give to the Manatee County Food Bank $1,000.00 to help feed Manatee County. A new home was put in on 8 Cherry. It is the “Anna Marie” model and it is beautiful. We have treated the pool for an algae that sits on the bottom of the pool. The chemicals that were used were very strong and the pool had to be closed for 1 day. Brad, who is the pool company, will be diving to the bottom of the pool and making sure all of the debris is dirt and not algae. It is now clean and beautifully clear so enjoy the pool. We also have new lounge chairs and umbrellas. We thank the HOA for this joint venture. The pool area really looks nice. So, to continue with what is new, we go to the shuffle Board Courts. The courts have new canopies over the entire viewing area. It looks so good. We are also starting the Office/post office renovations. New cement was poured for the new mail package box-es. They will be here soon. Enjoy the summer.

Message from Co-Op President Frank Fields

The hot season is upon us. When you are participating in any outdoor activities try to stay hydrated and get some shade when possible. There is a group of residents that have been playing bocce ball and are getting pretty good at it. When our friends from up north come back they will have some stiff competition. There is a new house on 8 Cherry and all is looking well. We lost another loved resident recently, Dave McLay, he was always willing to help others and he will be missed. The 4th of July party was outstanding. The many volunteers did a great job and everyone seemed to have a great time. I wish everyone good health and as always look out for your neighbors.

It is so nice to see the new games area that has taken shape. We have been sent pictures of everyone enjoying this area and can’t wait to get back to see this in person. If you are lucky enough to be a permanent resident be sure to go and take part in this area and enjoy. We, as snowbirds, are anxious to get back to take part in some of these activities. The villagers are putting out a great effort to keep the entertainment going through the summer, i.e. bingo, barbeques, games, as well as ladies night out and you should be proud of the success of all these events. I am glad to hear Regis is getting help (never enough) and the sheds are filling up, which means additional needs for the park may be able to be funded because all funds from the bazaar go to our community. So if Regis needs a little help – please help. Storm season is approaching so please watch out for your neighbor and any help you can give them if needed. Be safe and have fun!

Storm Season thru November Here is a list of things that you need to do for the storm season. It is not too late to get ready.1. Make your Disaster Plan. There are special needs reg-

istries for both Medical needs or Transportation needs during a disaster.

2. Decide NOW where you would go if ordered to evac-uate (e.g. stay with a friend/relative, stay at a hotel, use a public shelter, or leave the region as a last resort).

3. Check your Disaster Supply Kit and obtain any items you need.

4. Keep your home in good repair. Tack down loose shut-ters or lattice keep gutters clean.

5. Purchase a battery-powered weather alert radio and a non-electric landline phone. Even though phone service may not be disturbed, cordless phones will not work during power outages. (have Power Packs for cell phones)

6. Inventory your property and possessions on paper and take a video survey of your property. Store with insurance and other important papers in a safe place and send a copy to a relative out of the area.

7. LISTEN TO LOCAL WEATHER EVERY DAY. Local stations also have special shows and lots of ideas of how to be prepared.

Block Captains have dropped off a small packet of infor-mation and lists. Please get one in the office if you did not get one.

Do you have an ICE CARD? (In Case of Emergency) reminder by Kathy Holly

When Joe and I moved here we wanted to get important information to a trusted neighbor to be able to call our relatives quickly, so we put our ICE card on the refrigerator, in our wallets, and inside our plastic “hurricane evacuation bag”. It’s not only for a medical emergency, but also in case something would happen to our home, car or pet, and we are not around. For us it is just peace of mind. Get one for free on website: www.geticecard.com

{ad reprint from website}: Print an ICE card yourself

“We don’t all have perfect handwriting. The ICE card with its printed text overcomes this issue. Fill in the form below, and it will be converted into your own printable PDF file. Simply cut out the card, and put it into your wallet. If you do not know or remember your blood type, don’t worry, you are not alone. You can just select the question mark. If you have any allergies, chronic conditions or medications, you can type those under health information.”

dOts ON hOmEs by Merry Sinacore

When an evacuation occurs, Manatee County personnel go through all the area Mobile Home Parks to identify which home is occupied or not. The county appreciates that our park has been pro-active in helping out by placing dots on the homes as an identifier. The yellow dot indicates “There may be people inside”, so the Sheriff will know which homes may need immediate action. For those who leave in summer, the red dot will help responders know the homeowner is not a year round resident. Since hurricane season goes through the end of November, feel free to remove the indicators in December.

Norma, Bill and Buck sold tickets at the PV July 4th Celebration.

K a t h y , Penny, Linda and Barbara are often the ones creat-ing the beau-tiful style at the PV func-tions in the clubhouse. During the July 4th this year, they received some roses for all the hard work behind the scenes.

Ken and Barbara Dearing, whose perseverance pays off each year with incred-ible donations from local businesses for the Chinese Auction style raffles - more than $2400 dollars worth were contributed, but the

Dearings spend weeks traveling to get the task done, and still have time to decorate their golf cart. Outstanding!

Thanks to Ray and Dorene Caron for selling tickets at the July 4th and all the help around the park.

Thanks to Pat, Rebec-ca, Derissa, Judy, Jill, Val-erie, Wanda and others who served food and did kitchen duty.

Not many managers would show up on a day off, but Merry and her husband Russ came, helped and participated in the celebration.

Thanks to the talented Chris Bell, who has enhanced our park with amazing animal signs.

“Behind the Scenes Summer Volunteers at Plantation Village”

by Kathy Holly Many Mobile Home Parks shut down activities, as well as their Newsletters, during the “off-season”. But here at PV we have new and returning volunteers to keep our park going strong. We want to thank ALL of you, and here are some “caught on camera”. Those of you not listed, please know you are appreciated.

Thanks to Regis who picks up PV donations in the heat of summer, to make the upcoming Bazaar in February a success.

Evelyn has b e e n o r g a -

nizing, overseeing, and contributing snacks and delicious peanut butter cookies to the Euchre Card Games for many years; and Chuck has been active in the I’m OK program, riding through twice a day checking if someone may need help, as well as changing out the community sign with upcoming events. Participating in the flag raising and the Golf Cart parade, we want to say “thanks”!

From Last Month... In the June issue the picture of Chuck and Nancy Sakrenes was not in-cluded for the “Meet Your Neighbor” article by Ted Ormiston. We want to let you know who these wonder-ful neighbors are, and many will recognize Nancy who helped cre-ate the huge Bake Sale booth at the Plantation Village Bazaar in February 2018.

Bingo by Bill Thompson

Well, another month has come and gone. We are keeping up with our players count of 80 or more each week. We are so glad to see everyone there. This past month we had lots of “goings on”. We had the children’s food drive for the 4th of July donation, and all our players were very generous, bringing food donations for the occasion. We also had an ice cream social to show our appreciation to our wonderful loyal players. We served vanilla ice cream with chocolate, strawberry or caramel toppings. Everyone was very happy with the treats. On July 13th we surprised Norma Fuller with a cake to celebrate her 91st year, and everyone is so glad to have her involved in the Bingo at PV. We still have some Hot Balls to give away and the winning pots keep getting bigger and bigger - hope to see you at Bingo night!

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORFraNk & LOrEtta spataFOrE

Frank was born in Clarks-burg, West Virginia but his family moved to Detroit, Michigan when he was six months old. Loretta was born in Boston, Massachu-setts. Both Frank and Loretta were previously married and lost their spouses to the grim reaper. They met on match dot com and were married in 2005. Between them they have 8 children, 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren with another great grandchild on the way. Frank is a 21 year veteran of the United States Air Force where he specialized in management engineering. During his service he was stationed in Alaska, California, Korea and Thule, Greenland. After leaving the Air Force Frank was hired by the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. He worked one day as an hourly employee before he was retrieved from the work floor and hired as a salary employee in industrial engineering. His employment at Ford ended when he retired after 23 years. Loretta was employed by K-Mart in New England as a Global Sourcing Director and was transferred to Michigan. When asked about hobbies Frank said he enjoys cooking but he REALLY loves the Monday night poker get-togethers at the PV clubhouse where the other players so graciously donate their money to him. Loretta enjoys knitting reading, taking care of her dog and getting together with other la-dies from PV for the Monday morning breakfasts at Perkins restaurant. Frank and Loretta moved into our Plantation Village com-munity in 2015 and are as glad to be in our part of paradise as we are to have them.

Caring Corner - Our deepest sympathy to the families.

daVid mcLay With family by his side, Dave passed away peacefully into God’s loving hands at Kingston General Hospital on Sunday July 8, 2018. Dave will be deeply missed by his wife Suzanne of 53 years. He truly loved his time with family and is the very proud Father and Grandfather of Dave, Lynn, Ryan and Syd-ney, Jay, Darlene, Ayden, Ashlee and Alyssa, Rory, Talia, Ayla and Ryder. Previously deceased by parents David Charles McLay and Edith Pearl McLay, sister MaryAnne Mason and Pat Campbell, surviving sister Janet Ireland (husband Roy Ireland) and brother Danny McLay (wife Monica McLay). Al-ways known to enjoy a good laugh with family and friends, he had fun with the Men’s League golf at Rivendell, fishing and hunting, during his time in Florida and with his brothers of 50 years at the Masonic Lodge. A celebration of life will be held from 6-9 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018 upstairs at Rivendell Golf Club, light snacks will be served. A special toast to Dave will be offered at 7:00 pm. Special thanks to Dr. D’Arsigny and her fantastic team and for the outstanding care and support provided by the nursing staff at the ICU at KGH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, the Ontario Lung Association, or the Canadian Cancer Society. “Tip one for me and don’t forget to hug someone” Reprint comment from son, Rory McLay on the PV facebook:Hey everybody. I just read out these comments to mom and I can’t tell you how appreciative we all are. Dad loved his time in Florida and came back with a whole new chapter of stories every time he came home. He passed on his own terms with mom and my 2 brothers by his side. He had respi-ratory problems down south and fought the good fight to beat it up here. The doctors and nurses at Kingston General Hospital were absolutely incredible and, as you might ex-pect, he had nurses fighting to be with him as he had them smiling and laughing to the end. In the end, dad realized the doctors had tried everything and just weren’t winning. He made the call and we got to say a proper goodbye. He did NOT want a service of any serious sort. He did, however, want a party. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do on Saturday the 21st of July at our local golf club (Rivendell) from 6-9 pm. For those wanting mom’s address, here it is: 1016 Little John Lane, Hartington, Ontario K0H 1W0

PERSONAL SAFETY TIPCourtesy of Crime Prevention Unit

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Ever walk to your car and feel like someone was watching you and then find out someone was? Have you ever been woken up in the middle of the night by something you heard and then find someone in your home? And, finally, do you have a vehicle with a keyless remote? Why would I ask that last question? Simple: If you have a keyless remote for your vehicle, then you have your own personal alarm system. Have your keys in your hand when walking to and from your vehicle, as well as next to you when you are in bed. If someone approaches you in a parking lot or tries to break into your home while you are in bed sleeping, all you have to do is hit the alarm on your keyless remote to bring attention to yourself. In most cases, the suspect will run away because they don’t want to be seen. If not, it will at least bring some attention to you and maybe get enough eyes turned in your direction which will hopefully result in someone coming to your aid. So, if you have it, why not go ahead and USE IT? It’s just one more tool you can use to protect yourself from becom-ing the victim of a crime.

Keep Cool this summer..... with cool healthy treats!
