Coach Wilder

Coach Wilder has been the high school football coach for 15 years, and an athletic director for 8 years. VJ’s Head Football Coach had this to say “From this football team, we can expect a good winning season, with a lot of hard-working football players.” On last Friday, Velma Jackson played in the MCSD Jamboree against St. Joe whom they defeated!

Ms. Draine Ms. Draine has been in the educational field for two years. She is honored to be teaching 12th Grade Government/Economics this school year. Also, she is the assistant coach for girls Powerlifting and girls Track. Ms. Draine is from Sharon, Mississippi, and VJ is her alma mater. She completed her college studies at Jackson State University.

Ms. Allison

Ms. Candice Allison is the school’s guidance counselor. She has six years of teaching experience and four years as a school counselor. Ms. Allison attended Jackson State University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communicative Disorders. Also, she received her Master’s and Specialist degree from Mississippi College. Ms. Allison had this to say, “I really enjoy being a part of the Velma Jackson High School family. I am looking forward to a great school year!” -Camryn C.

Ms. Mitchell Ms. Dalvia A. Mitchell is from Weir, Mississippi. She attended Millsaps College where she received her BA degree. She has been teaching for 11 years, but this is her first year at Velma Jackson High School. This school year she will be teaching Geometry, sponsoring the Dance team, Assistant Band Director, and the Head Softball Coach. Ms. Mitchell is looking forward to a superb school year!

Coach Beals

Coach Beals has been an educator for ten years. He has taught Biology and P.E. He’s a graduate of Wayne County High School and he received his college education from Jackson State University. At VJ, Coach Beals coaches football and track. While discussing track and field, Coach Beals had this to say “I am positive that we will win a track championship this year, because the future is bright for us in track and field.” -Marlaysha B.

Mr. Timothy Finch attended Lewis University. While in college, he ran track and became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated where he served as the fraternity’s president. Also, he wrote sports articles for the campus newspaper, hosted a Black Student Union television show, and was a member of the President’s student council. Mr. Finch was also an officer for the Black Student Union and the Pan Hellenic Council. He is entering his 8th year at Velma Jackson High School. He has coached volleyball, basketball, track, and was a statistician for the football team.
