Dear Campus Residents,
Welcome back! We could not be more excited to welcome the class of 2018 to our campus! Hopefully you had a restful, yet productive, summer and are ready to get right into the swing of things.
Hopefully Move-In Day went as smoothly as possible for you and you are getting settled into your new home in your residence hall.
Be sure to spend the next few weeks getting to know the other students on your floor as well as your Resident Assistant (RA). Your RA is there to help you get adjusted as well as possible to your new home.
Good luck to you as we begin this new semester!

RHA UpdateOver the summer, the Residence Hall Association President, Megan O'Toole, began preparing for the academic year through various tasks including meeting with H&DP professional staff, serving on the Parking and Transportation Task Force, attending AU Athletic and Student Activities meetings, tabling at Eagle Summit, representing American University with a student delegation at a national conference, and readying RHA for the upcoming academic year. When the rest of the Executive board arrived the first week of August, they hit the ground running by organizing some great opportunities!
• August 25th-August 28th: Mandatory Information Sessions for Hall Council Elections • August 29th-September 1st: Quad Poster Sale • September 3rd: Red Cross Blood Drive • September 25th: RAINN Day

Hughes Hall: RenovationOver the summer, Hughes Hall experienced a major renovation. Each summer we focus on one residence hall to upgrade so that our residential spaces can be as current and up-to-date as possible.
One of the improvements made to the building was a complete renovation of the lobby, including a new desk, additional lobby space, and new seating for guests.
Each floor’s storage room was converted into an accessible, gender-neutral, bathroom for floor residents, and every kitchen and lounge space received new furniture and appliances.
Resident rooms in Hughes Hall also received upgrades. All rooms now have a keyless door lock and automatic digital wall thermostats. In addition, rooms received new carpets, baseboards, and furniture.
We are very proud of how Hughes Hall turned out and hope that you are too!
We know that your second year will be exciting, challenging, and full of opportunities to shape your path at AU, so we are here to help you prepare! During the fall and spring semesters, you are invited to take part in our Year2@AU: Sophomore Success events to help you prepare for and make connections with faculty, navigate academic, internship, and career choices, and decision making.
