Interview with an AE: Kristine Zangrillo

Who is your HVC client?I have the incredible opportunity to be working with Michael Pilato of Pilato Murals this fall.Michael is best known for his iconic Inspiration Mural in downtown State College.

Where are you interning this summer, and what has your experience been like so far? This summer I am interning at Kaplow in New York City. I am an intern in the Consumer division at Kaplow and my experience so far has been truly unforgettable. I have had the opportunity to work on a multitude of clients – giving me the true PR agency experience. I have learned so much this summer, not only about public relations, but about myself as well.

What do you love about HVC?Can everything be an answer? HVC is not only comprised of the most professional, passionate and wonderful people I have had the opportunity to meet at Penn State, it is also an organization built on creating a real-world communications experience for aspiring students. What can beat that?

What is it about PR that interests you?The most interesting thing about PR to me is that it is ever-changing. Every aspect of PR changes day to day – from the practice itself to the daily work. One day you can be sitting at your computer all day, the next you’re running around town. Also, more personally to myself, PR is a constant challenge for me. I am an introvert down to my core, and some aspects of PR require very extroverted personalities. However, I love being challenged, and PR forces me out of my comfort zone often.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?Starbucks, a good (long) book and floaties.

What are Kristine Zangrillo’s keys to success?“Today, you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You!” Dr. Suess knows what he’s talking about. Be yourself and be confident in who you are… the rest will fall in line.
