Message from Stephanie Wachman

President, ICF Colorado

I hope you have all enjoyed your summer so

far and have taken some time to relax and

unwind. I write to you from 30,000 feet on my

way to Seattle for some R&R and much

appreciated family time.

As we look ahead to our upcoming meeting in

September, I would like to share with you

some exciting news about what ICF Colorado

has been working on.

2 Exceptional Community Outreach

Volunteer Opportunities:

We were very successful with International Coaching Week and

Dress for Success. A wonderful ICF member and volunteer Becky

Bringewatt shares her experience below: I had the honor of

presenting a stress management class to the Denver chapter of

Dress for Success as part of International Coach Week this year.

The women in this program are all returning to the workforce for

various reasons, and some of them are looking for better jobs than

they have had in the past. They receive help with interview skills

and are given clothing suitable for the job interview they will be

attending. The women in the group are all working very hard at

accomplishing their goals, and they are hungry for any knowledge or

information that will help them transform their lives. Many of the

women in the program have been homeless or nearly so, and all

have suffered from extreme circumstances in their lives that I can

only imagine. They are fighters and dreamers, and they just don't

give up.

I really enjoyed spending time talking about stress and things that

reduce stress levels that are easy and free (which was really

appreciated). I got to know about the lives of these wonderful

women and their struggles and achievements. I took away a new

appreciation for the work I do, and how it can influence others'

lives. Meeting with these women inspired me to do more and

complain less because I really have nothing to complain about!

I would recommend doing service work with the Dress for Success

program because of the motivation of the women in the group. They

have a monthly meeting for any women in the program who want to

develop skills, and they appreciate connecting with members of the

community to present for them. This is an underserved population

who simply cannot afford coaching services, but are very willing to

learn and implement new skills. You will be happy you did!

Another terrific volunteer opportunity I’d like to share with you is

our new and very strong relationship with Stand Beside Them.

The mission of this non-profit organization is to help veterans and

their families/caregivers attain the happiness and quality of life here

at home that they so deserve after serving our country.

Stand Beside Them, Inc. provides free coaching and mentoring to

transitioning service members and their families. As you know, due

to government cutbacks for our military and because of withdrawals

from operations overseas, thousands of military are transitioning

out to civilian life . . . many will not find jobs right away and could

use some coaching support during their reintegration.

Whether it is in finding employment, starting new businesses,

completing their educations, improving personal relationships,

assessing for new vocations, or locating health care to fully meet

their needs, Stand Beside Them (SBT) volunteer coaches are

needed to help veterans and their families transition to civilian life.

They are looking for experienced life, business, career, wellness,

educational, executive, and leadership coaches holding certification

from an established coach training school, or ICF credentials, with a

minimum of 100 hours of client coaching experience and are

seeking a minimum commitment of twelve (12) pro bono hours.

Information on how to become a coach with this terrific organization

coming soon on the ICF CO website. Links to these two

organizations: http://www.standbesidethem.org and Dress for

Success.

Finally, remember our joint Summer Networking Event is coming up

August 21, 2014. Dina Brecheisen has been working tirelessly to put

this networking event together, and we really appreciate her efforts.

Also, the tickets for the October Conference are going fast. We have

posted speaker information and audio/video recordings for you to

listen to by visiting our website's home page.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we’ll see you at the Summer

Networking Bash in August. Don’t forget to Like us on Facebook and

join our LinkedIn discussions.

No Monthly Meeting in August; next meeting

September 11, 2014

Date: September 11, 2014

Time: 6:00PM to 9:00PM

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) conducted before the general

meeting from 6:00 - 6:50pm.

Location:

PPA Event Center, 2105 Decatur Street, Denver, CO 80211

Speaker: Hilary Blair

Topic: "Communication Chiropractic: Align

Your Voice with Your Message!"

*CCEUs: 1.5 in Core Competencies

Are you contradicting yourself? Is your body

sending a different message than your voice

and different still from the words

themselves? Explore and examine exactly

what you are "saying" from a totally new

perspective - that of a veteran

stage/voice-over actor and teacher and

then give yourself a little chiropractic

adjustment to embolden your step into the

message. The three areas, verbal, non-verbal, and message are

more easily received, and often more powerful, when all three are

saying the same thing. If not, we can be perceived as disconnected,

hiding something, or untrustworthy. This presentation and/or

workshop will give you the tools to identify the parts of the

communication equation that are under your control and allow you

to make conscious choices to be more authentic and clearer. Your

audience wants to listen, you have much to share, and now make it

easier for them to hear you.

About Hilary Blair

Hilary Blair, CEO and lead coach for Articulate: Real&Clear,

presentation and speaking voice expert, is a highly regarded coach

and facilitator working extensively across the US with a variety of

businesses including Am. Express, Janus Funds, Staples, ABRH,

Liberty Global, State of Colorado, Hunter Douglas, eLuminate and is

the presentation coach for Count Me In events. She works with

entrepreneurs, lawyers, CEO’s, actors, teachers, writers, project

managers, etc. Hilary’s years as a stage, film and voice over actor,

teacher, and voice coach present a unique skill set. She sees beyond

habits and learned behaviors to what is unique and authentic in the

individual or group. In addition, she facilitates workshops that use

improvisation in order to improve leadership skills, team building

and creativity. She is on faculty for the Denver Center for the

Performing Arts, and has been adjunct faculty for the University of

Denver, Metropolitan State, University of Colorado –Boulder, and

the University of Northern Colorado. She is an active member of

Toastmasters and is a board member of VASTA – the Voice and

Speech Trainers Association. She holds an MFA in acting from the

National Theatre Conservatory and a BA from Yale University.
