Hey Krakens, I hope you’ve all had a fun and productive sum-mer to at this point. I also hope that everyone that at-tended Seattle Rally had a blast because I know I did! Being a Co-Chair for Seattle Rally was such a huge honor. I am incredibly blessed and honored to have been in charge of such a huge event. I would like to thank everyone who attended the rally, my rally planning committee, our amazing area administrator, Sue Owens, my principal. Terri Herren, my home club adviser, Jennie Buetow, Sylvester Neal, Division 33, and the rest of the Pacific North-west District and District board. It is now August so the school year is fast approaching. I hope you’re all as pumped as I am for the new school year and another year of Key Club. Hey Key Clubbers, Summer is finally here, and I hope all of you are kicking back and relaxing after a long school year’s end. All of you have put so much effort into the last school year, from taking AP and IB classes, to being in multiple clubs and activities, to all of your endless commu-nity service that you have done. To the seniors a special congrats on finishing high school, you guys have worked especially hard. I hope the memories of the last years in high school will carry with all of you, and I hope you know all the service you have done in the last few years, has been changing the lives of others. To the club members, remember that when the sun is out, it is a great chance to grab a few friends and serve, and that service doesn’t end when the school year does! Continue all of your hard work because when you give a little love, you get a little love back, when you give a lot of love, you get a lot of love back. The amount of effort you put into serving is the amount you get back, from seeing a smile from the kid who just got a card at children’s hospi-tal, to packing a meal for a hungry family who lives in the neighborhood. The more and more you serve, the more and more you will see the community being affected, by the love and ser-vice you give to it. Remember that when you serve, give your whole heart to the project or fundraiser, and the results will soar. You are the change, with every good deed you do, no matter how big or small, it helps the people around you. From right around the corner to half way around the world, you guys are truly admirable. You give more than anyone could ever see or know, you guys don’t wish that you had the power to change the world, you know you have the power to change the world. Thank you all so much, and just remember, what you share with the world is what the world keeps of you.

Hey, Pacific-Northwest! My name is Tashrima Hossain, and I’d like to introduce myself as the new International Trustee for your district. It is such an honor to be in your service, primarily by ensuring that your voices are heard at the interna-tional level during the upcoming year. I’m excited to join the PNW moose; I’ve already received so much enthusiasm from the Board, I’ve heard many great things about PNW, and I can’t wait to see all the great achievements your district has in store. To let you know a little about myself, I am from Cypress, Texas, which is a suburban area adjacent to the Houston border. In addition to Key Club, I devote much of my time to debate and Student Council— which often leaves with very little time for sleep! As a result, I’m a bit of a grandma, and I like spending much of my free time sleeping, reading, or just hanging out with friends. For those of you who would like to know more about my duties as International Trustee, I have a few basic responsibilities: attending International Board meetings, participating in a maximum of two district visits, and acting as a representative of the international level of Key Club. In addition, Gov-ernor Lisa and I completed a Governor-Trustee agreement, which identified the main expectations Lisa has of me, as your district’s Trustee; many of said goals revolve around constant communication and building positive Sister District relations—all of which are means to ensure that I effectively represent your views on the international level. Additionally, I serve with Jenalee Beazley, Rip Livingston, Liz Moore, and Nicole Lema on the Growth and Communications Committee. There, we predominantly focus on fostering a connection between advisors and Kiwanis clubs, making Key Club a school-wide name, creating a “cool factor” for Key Club, empowering local clubs to publicize their work, creating a strategic growth plan for KCI, and creating an annual club census. We already have a very specific set of goals and action steps for the first quarter; I plan to update you all with any progress in that arena. During my term, I will stay committed to the goals I campaigned with, but more than that, I intend to actively serve as a resource for you all. If you have questions about amendments, elections, service, or general Key Club knowledge, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here as a resource, friend, and assistant in any way you may need. Call me, email me, Facebook me— I’m always ready to lend a hand. Hello Pacific Northwest District Key Clubbers! Over this past week, I along with 39 other PNW Key Club-

bers and six Kiwanis chaperones had the opportunity to attend the 71st annual International Convention in the vibrant city of Anaheim, Cali-fornia. While there, we had the opportunity to attend educational workshops, meet Key Clubbers from across the world, and elect the 2014-2015 Key Club International Board. I am truly humbled and honored to announce that I was chosen out of a field of four other highly qualified candidates to be your next International Vice Presi-dent.

My biggest support throughout the entire journey, from the moment I decided to run until my name was announced on stage, was the entire Pacific Northwest District. So let me take this time to thank every single one of you- all 13,000+ members. It was your support that got me through not only ICON week but the months leading up to it. Thank you to everyone that messaged be “good luck” and to all of those that congratulated me afterwards. Even though many of you did not attend ICON 2014, I still felt as if all of you were alongside me. I look forward to personally thanking many of you as I travel to some of the upcoming area rallies. To all the graduating seniors, even though I will not have the opportunity to serve you for this upcoming year, I hope that many of you will decide to join Circle K in college and eventually Kiwanis.

Once again, THANK YOU to the mighty Pacific Northwest District! I look forward to yet another fantastic year of service, friendship, and growth not only for Key Club International but also for our district!

Hello, Key Clubbers! My name is Maria Palazzolo, and I am so thankful to be your 2014-

2015 Key Club International President! I was elected at the International Con-vention in Anaheim, California, about a month ago. It is a privilege to serve you and the rest of our 267,000 members.

As Key Clubbers, we have a unique perspective of the world. We, as teenagers, get to make lasting impacts within our communities and throughout the world. I find it absolutely amazing that our organization is made of so many selfless individuals with one mission: to positively change the world.

As your International President, one of my main goals is to make Key Club International more accessible to provide more ideas and opportuni-ties to make your club the best it can be. This can be done through:

We will also be promoting the Eliminate Project, which is the Kiwanis family’s campaign to raise $110 million by the end of 2015 to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the face of the planet. It nears its completion at the end of the year, and we need to work tirelessly to meet our goal. I will work with our International Vice President, Kevin Zhang, and our eleven International Trustees to meet these goals to make this year a productive one for our organization.

I hope to see all of you at our International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, next summer! Imagine 2,000 people who are just as focused on helping others as you are. On August 4th, Key Clubbers from all

around the Pacific Northwest District came

together at Auburn Mountainview High

School for #SEATTLERALLY 2014. Being a day

full of icebreakers, officer training, photo-

bombs, fun, and spirit, it truly was a Magical

World of Service!

#SEATTLERALLY 2014 had the pleasure

of listening to former Kiwanis International

President Sylvester Neal as he reflected on

his years serving on the International Kiwanis

board. His dedication to service and his car-

ing attitude are an inspiration to all.

This year, the spirit stick was awarded to

Division 32! Not only were they super spirited

but, they also showed respect and positivity

at the event. Congratulations to them!

hope everyone had fun. Can't wait until next

Seattle Rally 2014 Experiences

Hello, my name is Chris Vargas, and I am the current Key Club

President at Thomas Jefferson High School. I was lucky enough to

experience an unforgettable opportunity to strengthen my role, not

as just a President, but as a Key Club member as well. I got the op-

portunity to go to Seattle Rally! The first thing I noticed when I en-

tered Auburn Mountainview High School was the positive atmos-

phere created by all the motivated and enthusiastic Key Clubbers ready, willing and able to serve just like me. It was easy to just walk up to someone and start a conversation be-

cause everyone was so friendly. Seattle Rally taught me how to manage my club as presi-

dent, while also reminding me that the regular members come first, and we are all equal.

Position does not make one greater than the other. I can truly say that Seattle Rally has

motivated me to strive even further this year as a Key Club member! To serve, it’s our

way of life.

Seattle Rally was basically a baby DCON minus the governor's ball. It's pretty much the best thing to be around tons of key clubbers and it got me extra pumped up about key club again. I really regret not going last year so make it a point to go next year guys!

Seattle Rally 2014 Experiences

The Seattle Rally was great! I can't wait until next year. The theme was awesome, do you know why it's not the same as the PNW? The workshop that was about Thailand and Human trafficking was great, i would love to get more information on it

The Seattle rally was the greatest get together I have ever attended. It was such a refreshing Jolt for me. I have heard nothing but praise from all who attended the Seattle Rally. The presenters were well prepared, their speeches were touched and the sessions were all well attended. Every-one felt that we did a superb job organizing the rally, selecting thought pro-voking topics, and even getting us good mentors such as Lieutenant Gover-nors. All Key clubbers I met there were warm-hearted, talented, energetic and intelligent. Absolutely, this event inspired me to perform acts of service in my community in depth. If I could sum up in one word, what Key Club Sprits has taught me----I would say it is “Fearless”. Congratulations on both a successful and memorable rally.

There is never a dull moment when everyone in the division gets together, which is what makes our division so unique. Everyone is dedicated and is always willing to serve the community no matter what.

July Joint DCM Recap

On July 25th, 2014, Jenny Feng, Lieutenant Governor of Division 32, and I hosted the Purple Division DCM at Lake Meridian. The DCM was full of water balloons, hot dogs and pizza, icebreakers, and overall, just fun. Thank you to all that attended and that donated during the Miracle Minute.

For those who are unaware, at one point Divisions 32 and 33 were one division. Since then, they have dived into 2. Divisions 32 and 33 will forever be sister divi-sions.

MNT results when tetanus spores, which are present in soil eve-rywhere, enter the bloodstream. It is mainly caused by a lack of access to sanitary birthing conditions, unclean instruments used to cut the umbili-cal cord and unclean post-partum cord care. Once the disease is contracted, the fatality rate can be as high as 100 percent in underserved areas. Most mothers and newborns who die of tetanus live in areas of Af-rica, South Asia and East Asia, where many woman are poor, having little access to health care, have unlimited information about safe delivery pro-cedures and continue harmful cord care practices.

On August 16th, in collaboration with Young Nonprofit Leaders Organization, Seattle will host its first ever Youth Empowerment Day. Through various leadership activities, keynote speakers, and small group discussions we will inspire students to inspire Seattle. At the end of the day, our youth (12-18) will feel inspired, capable and ready to take on anything they set their minds to. Students will be split into 4 different sub-groups based on the information they provide. They will have the opportunity to spend the day learn-ing about our environment, homelessness, health issues across the country, and sexual trafficking in order to take part in making a change throughout our community and even on a global scale. We are happily accepting donations for participation for the event. Scholarships to at-tend the event are offered to those with financial need. Please email [email protected] if you would like to request a scholarship. In person, day-of registration will be available at the event if space is still available. Structure

Club Key Clubs are established in a high school or equivalent institution, or a community-based club may be chartered. Elected offi-cers can include president, on or more vice presidents, secretary, treasurer, editor and one director from each class.

Division Each district is divided into territories called divisions, made up of various clubs. Each division has a lieutenant governor, a student leader who carries out the district’s policies and provides support to the clubs.

District A district is sometimes defined by state or nation and tends to match a similar Ki-wanis district. Each district is chaired by a governor, elected by delegates at the an-nual district convention

International Key Club International encompasses all clubs within the group’s 33 organized dis-tricts and in foreign countries that are not included in any specific district. Key Club International is led by its international board, which is comprised of a president, vice president and 11 trustees, all students and active Key Club members.
