Big Events to be Proud Of…

In most August newsletters, I try to include a little something about the Bass River events we’ve hosted at Beverly Golf and Tennis. As many members know, we are home to the largest Junior Clay Court event of the year. We also host a Senior Clay Court Slam, a Jimmy Fund event that raises a lot of money for that cause, and even some USTA Sectional events. Contract Courts, Did You Know???

It’s not too late to arrange a tennis contract time for the 2012-2013 season that begins September 10th. Did you know that for the first time ever a contract court costs less than a call-in court? Members often say they understand the convenience of a court booked for the season, but what if you have to miss a time. You lose your money. It’s cheaper to just call each week. That was then, this is now. Not only is the court less expensive on a contract, but if you have a week where you are short a player, we’ll help you find someone. Just give us as much notice as you can, and we’ll get to work. We’ll do everything we can to make sure your group has its 4th! In fact, if you call on us to help you, and we can’t, we’ll give you a makeup for that time at the end of the season. A number of desirable times are still available. Call our Office Manager, Cheryl LeDuc, for details and to arrange your time today!

Bass River’s North Shore Men’s Teams

Bass River will run four Men’s teams for 2012-2013. We are fielding Men’s A, Men’s A1, Men’s B and Men’s B-1 teams. We are currently recruiting for all these teams. For more information on men’s North Shore teams, please contact Tennis Director, Larry Lebatique, [email protected].

North Shore Women’s Teams Tryouts for all our women's teams were held in the spring. Bass River will field teams in the A-upper (2 teams), A Serena, A Venus, A-1 Upper, A-1 Lower, B-1 Upper, B-1 Lower, Working Women’s 1 (2 teams) Working Women’s 2 and Working Women’s 3 divisions. If you are interested in subbing on one of our teams, please get in touch with our Tennis Director, Larry Lebatique. If you are new to the club and would like more information on playing on a North Shore League Team, please click on the "North Shore League Teams" menu item on our www.bassrivertennisclub.com website.

North Shore Adult Mixed Doubles

Bass River will participate in the North Shore Mixed Doubles League again this season. The league underwent some change in levels a year ago. There are more changes to come to help sort out the level of play. At the time of this typing, I don’t have “cast in stone” rules, so I’ll wait for the September newsletter. All matches are on Sunday afternoon and no practice sessions are required. If you would like to participate in the mixed, be in touch with Tennis Director Larry or Mike LaPierre, [email protected].

A Re-designed Junior Program 2012-2013

Bass River is proud to announce a completely re-designed Junior Program. For years, Junior Program Coordinator Rares Petritoi has had an idea forming in his mind. After working on it and trying out various versions, we are unveiling it now. Parents and past junior players will need to adjust to a couple new terms, but this is a ground breaking program and will change how junior programs are run. Junior Members will be receiving a letter in the mail in early August that outlines many of these changes. Please look for that, but here is just a small preview. We will have 3 levels of junior membership. The membership your child takes will depend on age, skill level and amount of tennis time you select. Our full junior membership will still include 2 hours of free time each month, but each membership has some perks. Not only will our new program have the top flight instruction we’re known for, but we will implement the USTA QuickStart, comprehensive match play and a junior mentor program. Watch for details!

North Shore Junior Travel Team

The Bass River Tennis Club is proud to again offer a North Shore Junior Travel Team. Boys and Girls interested in competitive singles and doubles are welcome to participate. Both the boys and girls teams will carry 4 or 5 players in each category (12 & under, 14 & under 16 & under and 18 & under). Matches are played on Saturday afternoon and a weekly practice is held on Friday. Tryouts for all age divisions will be on Saturday, September 8th. For additional information or to register for the tryout, please be in touch with Larry Lebatique, 978 927-0102 or [email protected]. We ask our players to be available as much as possible from mid-September through Mid-April (matches and practices are off during vacations and Holiday weeks).

Junior Memberships for 2012-2013 As mentioned above in the Junior Program section, we will offer 3 different

memberships this indoor season. For our youngest clinic players, ages 4 and 5, that will be our “Tots Membership”. Just $25.00 for the year and it comes with your choice of a Bass River T-shirt or a Tots racket (1 per membership). The 2nd membership type is the “QuickStart Membership”. This is for all Level 1 and Level 2 clinic players. This membership is $45.00 and also comes with a T-shirt. The “Full Junior Membership” is for all Level 3 and 4 clinic players, anyone on the Junior Travel Team or the High Performance program. This membership is $144.00 for the year (pro-rated down for late entry) and is the only membership that includes 2 free hours of court time each month.

A Green Technology…Old Tennis Balls Like New The Bass River Tennis Club has taken delivery of a new device that will recharge tennis balls back to a perfect bounce. The “Green Tennis Machine” from reBounces is a proven way to take an old tennis ball destine for a street hockey game and return it back to the same bounce it had the day you popped the can. The process takes 3 days, but it works! Any ball with a rubber core can be recharged. A racquetball, event the Quickstart colored balls will come back to original life. It’s not a magic machine. A ball that goes in covered in dirt and mud comes out covered in dirt and mud. But it will bounce again. We will be happy to provide access to this machine later in the season.
