It’s In Your Shout
Are you fighting a battle you're afraid
you won't win? Who are you depend-
ing on: God or yourself? When faced
with the combined armies of Ammon,
Moab, and Mount Seir, God told His
people Israel, … The battle is not
yours, but God's…(2 Chronicles 20:15
NIV). And God's never lost a battle
yet! He told Joshua, …I have deliv-
ered Jericho into your hands (Joshua
6:2 NIV). Notice, He didn't say, “I
will deliver” or “I might deliver.” No,
He said, … I have delivered Jericho
into your hands!… Israel already had
the victory, now they were being
called to act on it. But the question
remained, how? God's answer was,
Shout… Joshua told the Israelites,
When you hear the trumpets give a
loud shout; then the wall of the city
will collapse and you will go straight
in (Joshua 6:5 NIV). Now no rational
person would expect a shout, no mat-
ter how loud, to bring down the walls
of a big city. But this was no ordi-
nary shout; it was a shout of faith
based on a promise God had made.
Even though victory looked impossi-
ble, when Israel shouted God re-
sponded by bringing down the walls
and opening the doors to the Prom-
ised Land. When you're looking for
an open door and all you can see is a
brick wall, the last thing you feel like
doing is shouting victory, right? But
you need to do it regardless, because:
1) the shout of praise leads to victory
2) it puts your faith 'on the record' 3)
it confounds the enemy and robs him
of two of his greatest weapons: doubt
and discouragement 4) obedience,
even when you don't understand,
always brings results. So shout; for
the victory is yours!
It ’s our privilege to not only raise our hands in worship
but also to combine the visible with the invisible in a rising stream of praise and
adoration sent directly to our Father.

“I promised the Lord and myself that education will never be a reason for another church to
turn me down as a pastor.” Dr. Robert L. McGowens Sr.
Not every pastor (or anyone) can make the above promise and keep it. Yet, Greater Galilee is blessed with
a pastor who kept this promise to the Lord and himself. But make no mistake about it, the journey was not
easy. Pastor McGowens began this journey by acknowledging his call to preach the Gospel in 1981. At that
time, he was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church of Greenville South Carolina. After being licensed by
Mt. Sinai, he was ordained by the Enoree River Baptist Association. After interviewing for a different pas-
torate, he was not accepted because of his level of education. It was at that time that he made that promise
to the Lord and himself. After making that promise, he pursued his education and earned several degrees
including a doctorial degree in Theology and Ministry.
But does that make him the man we see standing before us? No, but It does give him the ability to stand
before us week after week and year after year and preach the Word of God that we so desperately need to
save our souls. Perhaps the most noticeable characteristic of Pastor McGowens is his love to minister the
truth to the saints. Known by other pastors as a “preaching machine,” it is normal for anyone to find them-
selves being convicted by his sermons. The one most interesting characteristic about his preaching is that
everyone can understand the central theme of his sermons.
So who is this man we celebrate this month. Our Pastor, Robert McGowens has a humble spirit. Along
with his humble spirit, he’s loving; caring and dedicated to his ministry and to his family. A man who
loves his family and is shown in his interaction with his wife Lady Terry, his children and grandchildren.
What makes him a great pastor? His ability to lead his members, his desire to empower people to be
God’s people; his ability to push you out of your comfort zone; his way of allowing us to use our gifts and
the way he develops men and women as they are called into the ministry. With the most important being
he serves with heart and he lives what he preaches.
Pastor, we are blessed to have you. You have preached from the depths of your soul; taught according to
His Word; sang and loved wholeheartedly and your infinite wisdom has guided us. To Lady Terry.. your
loving spirit, warm smiles and words of comfort when we need them, cannot be replaced. For all the love
and support you give to your husband, provides him the strength to be the pastor we need. Thank you for
being his rock and for being our first lady. We sincerely love each of you and we pray that God will con-
tinue to bless and keep you and your family.
A Healthy Lifestyle
It seems that everyone is concerned with healthy liv-
ing these days, which is a good thing. It is important
to be concerned with your health and to look for bet-
ter strategies to improve your life. Healthy living is
available to everyone, and does not depend on buying
the latest diet book or the most expensive vitamins.
All that you need to do is to start making healthy de-
cisions. The most important facet of your life that you
need to change as you move towards healthy living is to
start eating nutritious foods. Do not try to follow a
trendy diet, just eat a balanced diet of nutritious foods.
When you eat well, you lower your risk of many health
problems. You will also give yourself more energy, al-
lowing you to enjoy life again. Once you have started
eating well, it is time to go out and get some physical
activity! Just including small amounts of physical activ-
ity in your life will make a difference. Start slow and
then progress. The final component of healthy living is
to have a healthy mind. Everything should be done in
moderation – eating, working, resting, playing, main-
taining hobbies, socializing and so on. Pay attention to
the thing that you're doing at any given moment, and do
it well. Don't take on more work or personal responsi-
bilities than you can realistically handle Leading a
physically and mentally well-balanced existence is the
ideal way to live a healthy lifestyle. Understand that
leading a healthy lifestyle is a continual and lifelong
process. Life is a chain of continued efforts, an ongoing
process. Think of yourself as a work of art in progress.
Ushers/Nurses Anniversary The first impression of a church that a visitor receives
is from the greeting they receive at the door. This re-
sponsibility lies on the face and attitude of the usher.
Being a usher/nurse involves more than escorting and
issuing fans and bulletins and assisting those in the
spirit. It is a ministry of service. In order to serve faith-
fully you must have a Christ like spirit and a willing-
ness to serve. With every service we hold our ushers
and nurses have proven to be dedicated and here to
serve. We are greeted with pleasant smiles and warm
welcomes. They make sure that church is kept in per-
fect order during the worship service. The Greater Gali-
lee ushers and nurses could be called missionaries for
the church, for they perpetuate the spirit as we come
through the door and through out the service. So to
you we say Thank you for your faithful service to our
guest, our pastor and the Greater Galilee Family. As
God ushered Adam into the Garden of Eden, Abraham
ushered in faithfulness into the world, you too have
ushered us into the spirit of worship.
“Congratulations on your Anniversary!” A Celebration of Service
Mission’s Day Missions Day was held on July 25th. This
group of ladies is led by Sister Mattie Stewart.
Our missionaries are dedicated to helping and
serving those in need. They visit and pray
with the sick and bereaved and outside of
GGBC they prepare and deliver hospitality
baskets to the nursing homes and hospitals.
We as members help support our missions
area by our financial giving. This helps not
only with our membership needs, but to those
outside our doors. It is an essential part of
who we are. Caring is more than saying, it is
about doing and these ladies prove this in
their actions. Continue to bless other by giv-
ing regularly to missions.
