Dear St. Albert Family, On this 18th Sunday of the Year we hear one of the great-est passages in all of St. Paul's writings when he asks, "what will separate us from the love of God?" The short answer, of course, is the devil. That is the goal and the strategy of evil in the world - to separate. We know from our human experience that the easi-est way to triumph over another is "to divide and conquer". From the first book of the Bible, the serpent's goal is to separate humanity from its communion with God. And "enmity" is that resentful and jealous conflict among God's creatures that has taken over. Having fallen from paradise, Cain and Abel show the next generation's participation in this separation and death. But there is Good News! In Christ Jesus, St. Paul reminds us that by the power of the indwelling of God's Spirit in our hearts, NOTHING can sep-arate us from the love that God has for us in Christ Jesus. Oh, if that were only so. What St. Paul was convinced of hasn't overtak-en the human family. Separation and conflict is ALL we see. Hatred, racism, violence, disease, pestilence, plaque, war, espionage, intrigue, scandal, abuse....it is the broken human con-dition, and we see it in fine detail in this current era. What Paul reminds us is that it does not have to have its effect on us. For those who love God, Paul said last week, all things (even sin, death, evil, and hatred) can work together for the good. Let's renew our faith in this deep bond of communion within us and among us in Christ Jesus. He is our light, our life, and our hope. Nothing can separate us from the love that God has for us in Christ Jesus! Progress continues on our Building Faith project. The new driveway down from Parking Lot C to the front of the school is about to be opened in time for the first day of school. We will be using the lower level of the church building for our preschool program and for expanded lunch room facilities for the children during the COVID-19 social distancing. We are adding perma-nent livestreaming capability into our church building so that our on-line ministries (born of the coronavirus crisis) can flourish and reach this new generation of believers. Thank you for you continued support of our parish min-istries. Your offertory collections have been very generous and appreciated. Your fidelity to your Building Faith Campaign pledges are making all of this renewal possible. God bless you for your faith and commitment.

Peace,

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacra-ment. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen

RCIC – Rite of Initiation for Children

Students Needing the Sacraments of Baptism-First Commun-ion-Confirmation

Classes are beginning soon for Primary, Middle School and High School students who need to prepare to receive the Sac-raments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. If you are interested in registering for these catch-up classes, please con-tact Sr. Kate at [email protected] or call 440 -237-6760.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Are you someone or do you know someone who… Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? Has a child over the age of seven who has not been baptized? Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist? We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to cele-brate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucha-rist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children or youth. You are welcome to participate in the pro-cess with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. For information please contact Sr. Kate O’Brien at 440-237-6760.

Funeral Usher Opportunity If you are seeking to ease into a ministry, please pray about ser-vice to the bereaved as an usher at funerals. This is a most beau-tiful ministry as you participate in the grief healing process that begins with the Mass of Christian Burial. Your prayers and warm presence is most appreciated, and all who serve experience our Lord’s healing love. We are in need of a few additional ushers since we use 4 at every funeral. You can usher only when avail-able and there is no set schedule. Please contact Tom Sawyer at 440-263-8730 or [email protected] or the parish office 440-237-6760 if interested or for additional details.

Backpack Care 2020-July 19-August 2 Due to the current COVID 19 situation, the Annual Parish Backpack Care School Supply collection for students in need is going to take on a different look. Instead of asking for specific school supply items which requires sorting and pack-ing, we are seeking cash donations only. The donations will be used to purchase pre-packed boxes of school supplies from School Tool Box, which is the vendor our day school uses. As in past years, the collection will benefit those students in need at our St. Albert the Great School and North Royalton City Schools. A $50 donation can pur-chase an entire box of supplies for an elementary school stu-dent; however, any monetary donation will be equally appreci-ated. Your donation can be dropped off or mailed to the par-ish office or placed in the weekend Mass collection basket at the Church doors. Please mark your donation envelope, Backpack Care. If you have a question, contact Denise Bobulsky at 440-237-6760 or [email protected]. Thank you for contributing to a child’s academic success!

Preparing for Next Sunday’s Mass Parish LinC Letter August 9 2020 Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Read the following Scripture passage paying attention to a word, phrase, or idea that stands out to you:

After he had fed the people, Jesus made the disciples get into a boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. After doing so, he went up to the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. Mean-while the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terri-fied. “It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt? After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, Truly, you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:22-33

Step 1

Consider and Discuss these 3 Questions: Considering your life today....

1. What in this reading comforted you? 2. What in this reading encouraged you? 3. What in this reading challenged you? For further contemplation.... What conversion of mind, heart, and life is the Lord asking of me?

Step 2

conclude by praying our “Parish Communion Prayer”

O Communion of Love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, embrace us as your children in this family of faith. Welcome us to a place at your table in the wedding feast of heaven. O Father of Mercy, forgive us as we forgive. Reconcile us as one Body in Christ and make us instruments of your Peace. O Spirit of Fire and Light, send us as your witnesses in daily life. Through our prayer, faith, and good works may we become welcoming doorways, inviting others to enter and encounter your Holy Communion of Love.

We make this prayer, Father, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and through Christ our Lord. Amen

Step 3

Four steps to LinC together at home, church meeting, or anywhere!

Make Use of One of These Communion Connections:

Our Gospel today challenges us to recognize Jesus calling us to “step out of our boat” into the un-known, to embrace new possibilities of where God may be calling us. We need to move away from our comfort zones and our security so we can do the work where God is calling us to be a witness to those who need the love of Jesus Christ. Moreover, in doing so, we need to keep our eyes affixed on the Lord to remain focused on our endeavor. Too many times we become distracted by the world around us, becoming fearful, doubtful, or filled with anxiety. By trusting in the Lord’s assurance that he will never abandon us, we can overcome any distraction and know that Jesus will never let us “sink”.

Peter took the risk of leaving the boat. We too can be a risk-taker for the Lord. God may be calling you to minister to the poor, or asking you to reach out to the sick and the lonely; God may even be calling you to vol-unteer at your church, or to consider a religious vocation. Shake loose from the security of staying in the boat. We know that the safe way is to stay in the boat, knowing you’ll never sink; but you’ll never be able to walk on water, either.

Step 2
