I don’t know how it is with you, but whenever it’s time for me to go on a trip, whether it is business or vacation, ah yes, especially if its vacation, it’s hard for me to concentrate on the work that I have in front of me. But as anxious as I am to get away for a time of rest and relaxation, before long I can’t wait to return home. For some reason, there is something special about the place that we call “home” so that no matter how long we are away, it has a way of beckoning us back. I’m sure we are all familiar with the words of the poem by John Howard Payne, “Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.” You know, he’s right. As we celebrate our Fifth Annual Homecoming this weekend here at Sligo under the theme of, “We Are Nearing Home,” my mind can’t help but focus on a home that none of us has ever seen - our heavenly home. Footnotes:Charlotte Conway is currently Treasurer of Sligo Church, a position she accepted after retiring from Washington Adventist University. She became a member at Sligo in 1975 after returning from mission service in Beirut, Lebanon. Her children attended Sligo School, Takoma Academy and Washington Adventist University and all four have been members at Sligo Church along with their family members.

Paul Copiz is a well-loved former teacher of Sligo School, where he taught for 27 years. He & his wife Heidi are known for their gourmet cooking. He is enjoy-ing retirement by volunteering, traveling & hiking.

Dr. Olive Hemmings is a professor at Washington Adventist University. She is married to Charles Paintsil and they have three children, William, Alexandra & Harold.

Michelle Koilpillai is a dentist. She has been attending Sligo Church since birth. In her spare time, she can be found hiking, reading, baking and spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Rocky.

Bogdan Scur is a Sabbath School and small group leader. Bogdan, an As-sociate Professor of Religion, teaches the languages of the Bible at Washington Adventist University along with other Old Testament subjects.

Fitzroy Thomas is dedicated to serving others with his gifts of welcoming and connecting visitors and members. He, along with his wife, Jennifer lead a Sabbath School class especially for new believers. Fitzroy is looking forward to the new year at Washington Adventist University, where he plays a key role in welcoming new students.

Dave Weigley is President of the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in the mid-Atlantic United States where more than 130,000 baptized members worship in 700 churches and operate 95 schools and eight com-munity service centers. Weigley attended Washington Adventist University and Southern Adventist University. He also holds a Master of Business Administra-tion in Managerial Leadership. He has served in a variety of leadership positions in the church, including pastor, department director and administrator. Dave and his wife, Becky, have two adult children—Christy and Jon—and five grand-children.
