When you live near a metropolitan area like Washington, DC you can encounter droves of people who fall into the category of “the least of these.” It is common to see the homeless and the helpless walking the streets unclaimed and unloved. As a native New Yorker, it was my practice to avoid beggars. As a young girl there were safety issues to consider. But is this what Jesus Christ wants us to do as mature Christians? Do we really “see” the hurting, hopeless people that Jesus Christ loves and died for or have they become the invisible among us? Our sermon today given by Jonathan Duffy, President of ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) will tell us why Jesus came to this Earth and challenge us to see people through Jesus’ eyes. Let’s ask ourselves the poignant questions that the group Casting Crowns poses in their song titled “If We Are the Body.” The words say, “But if we are the body, why aren’t His arms reaching? Why aren’t his hands healing? Why aren’t His Words teaching? And if we are the body, why aren’t His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way?” Today, let each of us be angels who show someone in need the way to Jesus’ redeeming power and love. - Pr.
