August 10 - 11, 2019 | Weekly Newsletter of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church “No Fear on the Road with Jesus” (Luke 12:22-34) Jesus implores His disciples, while they are on the road to Jerusalem, to be on guard against the cares of this world turning us away from trusting in God. Jesus said, “Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” Care and fear can sway the path of human life as we travel on the road with Jesus. Every person natu- rally cares for himself and his life. We all are naturally filled with concerns about something. But pushed by fear of loss or lust for more we may strive and act contrary to God’s promises. How do we follow Jesus on the road when there are so many enticements to turn in other directions? Jesus promises, “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Next Sunday, August 18th, join us for a great meal served to you in our lower level, with a special presentation by Rev. Jim Hill, Head Pastor of Family of God Lutheran, on the activities at their church. Pastor Hill will also preach at all services next weekend. All proceeds from this fundraising dinner go towards Our Shepherd’s ongoing mission of feeding the community around FoG once a month. Yet another way YOU can participate in our mission! COST: $25 per plate, $10 for children age 12 years and under. This fine meal will be catered by Chef Ron Rebecca. Menu includes Chicken Marsala, a beef carving station, awesome sides and a sweets table. Please make reservations!! Payment may be cash or check, made to OSLC, with comment “for FoG benefit 8/18”. Give to Terry or Barb Hynes, leave in special envelope in the bookstore or pay at the door on the 18th. Questions? Contact Terry / Barb: 248-631-8369 or [email protected]. Our next meal prep and serve at Family of God is this Thursday, August 15th. Prep begins in the OS Kitchen at 2:00pm, we depart at 5:00pm and arrive back around 8:00pm. Join us for all or part of the evening. FoG is located at 7354 Whittaker St, Detroit, 48209. www.fogdetroit.com. Young men and women (8th grade and up) are being recruited to form new usher teams. Church ushering is a fun and rewarding way to serve, while not requiring an outside time commitment. For information contact Josh Morrison at [email protected].
