Adventurous new music Live at Nighttown!

Their motive has always been to emotionally connect with their audience whilebreaking the boundaries of two historically conservative, classical instruments.

Although classically trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music, IN2ATIVE's vibe isanything but traditional. This avant-garde duo, consisting of Kimberly Zaleski (flute)and Trevor Kazarian (cello) specializes in a fusion of musical genres, combining thestreet rhythms of beat-box with more contemporary improvisational forms, quite"out of the box." The combination and blending of musical styles, mixed withjamming high energy and beat-boxing swing creates a product that is sweet butalso very passionate. All of their pieces are original compositions, inspired byevents and experiences, both past and present.

This year, IN2ATIVE has been chosen as Musicians-in Residence at the ClevelandClinic, an honor garnered from their consistent outreach initiative through both theClinic and University Hospitals. They are also performing and teaching artists onthe roster of the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning Agency (CAL). Through CAL, theyhave programmed both performances and workshops for children ranging in agefrom pre-school through high school. They are very excited to present their musicfor students at Penn State University this fall 2016.

IN2ATIVE was the first prize winner for the 2014 Young Artist Initiative Competitionas part of the Ohio Arts Presenters Network Conference. Quoted by Jim Walker, former principal flute of the LA Philharmonic: "[IN2ATIVE] isone of the freshest concepts in today's music scene. The musicians are first rateand their music is only innovative, but appealing to all listeners."

IN2ATIVE has also been reviewed in CMUSE music news by Andrea Caccese: "Themusic created by avant-garde, flute and cello duo, [IN2ATIVE] offers a greatexample of how two apparently different musical cultures can come together andcreate something truly astonishing."

Guitar Master leads All-Star Quartet Live at Nighttown! Playing Music from hishit records "Eight Track" & "Eight Track II"

Featuring: Dave Stryker-Guitar, Eric Alexander-Sax, Jared Gold-Hammond B-3 Organ, & Byron Landham-Drums.Whether you’ve heard guitarist Dave Stryker leading his own group (with 26 CD’sas a leader to date), co-leading The Stryker/Slagle Band, or as a featured sidemanwith Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and many others, you know why the VillageVoice calls him “one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recentyears.”

Dave’s new CD “Messin’ with Mister T”, is a celebration of the man he worked withfor over a decade — Stanley Turrentine, It went to #1 on JazzWeek Radio andstayed in the Top 50 for 20 weeks and has received great reviews including 4 1/2stars in Downbeat magazine. Dave’s last CD “Eight Track” was #9 for 2014 on theJazz Week Radio Charts where it stayed for 20 weeks topping off at #3 for 3 weeks.Downbeat magazine picked it as one of the Top CD’s of 2014, ran a feature articlein the June 2014 issue on Dave, and voted him into the 2014 Downbeat Critics andReaders Poll for the 7th time.

Dave Stryker grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to New York City in 1980.After establishing himself in the local music scene, he joined organist Jack McDuff’sgroup for two years 1984-85. When McDuff wasn’t on the road, they worked asteady four-night a week gig at Dude’s Lounge in Harlem. After leaving McDuff,Turrentine asked Stryker to join his quintet. From 1986-1995 he played with thelegendary saxophonist at all the major festivals, concert halls, and clubs throughoutthe world. With Turrentine, Stryker was able to play with such jazz greats as DizzyGillespie and Freddie Hubbard. The ten years playing alongside the tenor legendhelped Stryker realize the importance of having his own sound.

With 19 CD's out under his own name and appearing as sideman on countlessothers, Eric Alexander has made his mark on the jazz world and documented hisprogress as a tenor master. He has a rich tone and an aggressive, driving style thatgrabs the listeners attention and doesn't let go.

At William Paterson College in New Jersey Eric advanced his studies under thetutelage of Harold Mabern, Joe Lovano, Rufus Reid, and others. "The people Ilistened to in college are still the cats that are influencing me today," saysAlexander. "Monk, Dizzy, Sonny Stitt, Clifford Brown, Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean,Joe Henderson--the legacy left by Bird and all the bebop pioneers."

During the 1990s, after placing second behind Joshua Redman in the 1991Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, Alexander threw himselfinto the whirlwind life of a professional jazz musician. He played with organ trios onthe South Side of Chicago, made his recording debut in 1991 with Charles Earland, and cut his first album as leader in 1992.

In 2004, Eric signed an exclusive contract with HighNote Records, an independentjazz label based in New York City. There he has amassed a considerablediscography of critically acclaimed recordings.

A.J. Croce$20.00 Friday 9/22 8:30 pm Buy Tickets

Dynamic Vocalist, Pianist & Son of Legendary Singer Songwriter Jim Croce hitsthe stage at Nighttown!

According to Willie Nelson, “A.J. Croce has wisdom beyond his years. With his music,he represents his generation with a profound sense of honesty in his lyrics andquality in his delivery. The future of entertainment is safe in his hands!”

A.J. Croce has been inextricably linked to a version of his own story by virtue of hisname. He’s experienced a lifetime of comparisons to a father he lost at age two, whose music bears little resemblance to his own output yet still serves as areference point despite the years that have passed and the many iconic mentorswho have stepped in to offer their counsel, creativity, and endorsement throughouthis long career.

It’s curious that it now feels necessary to include the reference, as enough time haspassed that a new generation of tastemakers and journalists might not know whoJim Croce was — that he was a golden-voiced everyman, a singer-songwriter-guitarist who died too soon, leaving one of pop music’s most beautiful andmemorable ballads (written about a young A.J.) in his wake.

Croce the younger, on the other hand, is a piano man, first and foremost, and avocal stylist second. His muted growl pulls from a host of American traditions andanti-heroes — it’s part New Orleans, part juke joint, part soul, but somehow evokesNew York, a continuum where John Lurie meets Lou Reed. He is further asongwriter, driven by a personal muse, informed by a life on a boomerang oftragedy.

His gritty and accomplished ninth studio album, produced by legendary soul singer-songwriter and producer Dan Penn, is the latest and arguably greatest effort yet.Penn, of course, is writer of such hits as “The Dark End of the Street,” “Cry Like aBaby,” “I’m Your Puppet” and “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man,” and producer ofthe Box Tops’ “The Letter,” as well as songs and recordings by Jerry Lee Lewis,Bobby Blue Bland, Clarence Carter, and Alex Chilton. Also making appearances areGrammy Award-winning country artist Vince Gill, Steve Cropper (Booker T. & the

Grammy Award-winning country artist Vince Gill, Steve Cropper (Booker T. & theMGs, Blues Brothers, author of many Stax hits), the McCrary Sisters and the MuscleShoals Horns.

Croce has lived longer now than his father did — at 45, he is 15 years beyond theage his father was when he died. With Just Like Medicine (due out August 11, 2017on Compass Records) an authentic version of his story, which contains bothunimaginable sorrow and many blessings, can be felt and understood.

"Just Like Medicine’s" second track, “The Heart That Makes Me Whole,” was writtenby Croce with the late great Leon Russell.

A.J. Croce’s nine albums have been released via both major and independentlabels, and have charted 17 Top 20 singles and all nine albums on the radioincluding on Top 40, Americana, Independent, Blues, and Jazz. A virtuoso pianoplayer, he has performed at a TED Talk and gave a master class at the University ofBarcelona. Croce has also performed on major talk shows and news programsincluding The Late Show, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, CNN, MTV, and VH1.

Eddie Baccus Sr. Quintet + Special Guests$20.00 Saturday 9/30 8:30 pm Buy Tickets

Cleveland Jazz Legend & Hammond B-3 Master leads All-Star Group live atNighttown!

Featuring: Eddie Baccus Sr.-Hammond B-3 Organ, Cecil Rucker-vibes, Billy Artis-guitar, Perry Williams III-drums, Mike Cady-vocals + Special Guests TBA

One of the senior statesman of the Cleveland Jazz Scene, organist Eddie Baccus Sr.has set the standard locally since the early 1960's. Like the late great Jimmy Smith,Baccus is a virtuoso on the Hammond B-3, equally adept at soul jazz and bebop. Inmany ways Eddie Baccus Sr. has been to the jazz scene what the late Robert Jr.Lockwood was to the local blues scene; he has been a leader, mentor, and the soulof the community for many years.

Early on his talent was evident as he was linked with another jazz legend, saxophonist Roland Kirk. Baccus and Kirk were schoolmates at the Ohio School ofthe Blind and their sessions together in the old Euclid and 105th area are the stuffof local legends. Kirk would go on to national acclaim before his untimely death inthe late 70's. Baccus stayed close to home and it has been our good fortune.

Eddie Baccus Sr. has been a mentor to countless Cleveland jazz musicians, notablyJoe Lovano, Ernie Krivda, and more recently his son, Eddie Baccus Jr.. His work hasonly been documented infrequently. He recorded an LP with Kirk back in 1962"Feel Real" on Smash records. His other recording is a session done with Lovano inthe mid 1980's entitled "Hometown Sessions". Although he has not gone on togreater glory playing the national circuit, Eddie Baccus Sr. has been the bedrockof the Cleveland jazz scene and his influence on fans and musicians alike has beeninvaluable. Joining Eddie Baccus Sr. for his appearance at Nighttown will be an All-StarCleveland lineup. They are Cecil Rucker on the Vibes. Eddie Sr. has frequentlyappeared with Cecil's group Good Vibes. Billy Artis is on guitar. Many willremember Billy from his days backing the late great Bill Doggett at the Theatrical indowntown Cleveland. Perry Williams III is on drums. Perry is a veteran on the souljazz circuit and has worked with Eddie Sr. and Cecil extensively. And on vocals isRon Davis. Don't miss Hammond B-3 wizard Eddie Baccus Sr. Quartet live atNighttown.
