Transcript of AUFC rd 4
Greetings and welcome to a preview of a huge round 4 at the Worlds Greatest Football Club. Thanks as always
for your interest and support, if you have any feedback or Bob Neil photos to send through please email me at
[email protected] or call 0414 488 282.
FACEBOB
First things first, family Heath are doing an outstanding job with our new Facebook page. There are a heap of
vintage and fresh Bob Neil snaps together with regular updates, results as soon as games are finished and witty
status updates. 218 people like it already but we’d like to think that that number could increase exponentially in
the years to come, we are the worlds largest football club after all. If you’re not a fan already, do yourself a
favour by clicking on the link below:

As an extra incentive the President & Chairman will provide a free keg* to the team with the most attendees at
Bowlies on Saturday night for use at that teams end of year pi55 up. To Dirty, Tyro and Bunny, if you get every
player there you can’t possibly lose.
* Conditions apply.
ROUND 3 REVIEW
3 out of 7 is a flat out fail but it felt much better than that given that the A & B grade both had much needed 10
goal wins over the Tarnished Spooners. The C-bombs battled hard against the top team but went down by 4
goal, whilst in the early game at Bob Neil 1 the Cowboys from Hell, in Sugar Ray’s 50th, started brilliantly kicking
the first goal of the game but unfortunately Woodville South, North, East & West kicked the next 24 to put a
slight dampener on things. Great to see Dimma and Strawbs making cameos in what was the highest grade of
footy that Dimma has ever played.
The new Chardonnays got belted, the Scum lost a close one but enjoyed better luck at Morphettville afterwards
and the Bastards were the only other victors accounting for the Very Old Ignatians by a couple of goals. The
Greys had the week off and now set themselves for a trip to the Riverland to play Berri Far Away this Sunday. On
a positive note, in stark contrast to last week, all games were pretty much done & dusted by ¾ time so stress
levels were a lot lower across the grades.
Forgot to include the banner from Howie’s 250th last week, so here tis courtesy of Rulei & Hank:
As always, detailed results/reports are on www.bobneil.com (click round by round results) and you can also find
this weeks teams on the site.

BOB NEIL PHOTO OF THE WEEK
In honour of 80’s day at Bob Neil # 1 on Saturday
THE JOHN SHIERLAW ANZAC MEDAL
Many of you may not be familiar with the John Shierlaw Anzac Day medal, which is awarded to the best & fairest
player in the A grade team in the Anzac Day game each year. John and Norm Shierlaw were twins who started
together at Adelaide University in 1940 and became entrenched in University life very quickly, including the
football club in which Norm won the best freshman in 1940. War, of course, intervened and both Norm (army)
and John (RAAF) were called into duty. Sadly John was never to return.
Norm returned to Adelaide where he established a prominent business career and in recent years he and his
wife Barbara have been amazing financial supporters of the club and the University. He takes great pride in
presenting the Anzac Day medal in memory of his brother each year and in 2012 it was won by boom recruit
Andrew Mcintyre, pictured below with Norm, Daddsy and little Daddsy.
The photo below shows both Norm and John in the 1940 A grade team photo, poor quality but the best I could
find. Middle row 3rd and 4th from left, Norm is the tall one. They were the only two freshmen in the team.
ROUND 4 PREVIEW
It’s not quite the weekend of parklands football that greeted us last week, but when Colonel Light Gardens is the
furthest trip away and Park 10 is the most Northern ground that we play at then you know you’ve got a pretty
sweet schedule by SAAFL standards:
Div 2 (Aussie Bob & The Contract Killers) V Portland at Uni Oval
Div 2R (Spud O'Rielly & the non-fighting Irish) V Portland at Uni Oval
Div 6 (Cyril & the C-Bombs) V Colonel Light Gardens at Mortlock Park
Div 6R (Sugar Ray & the Cowboys from Hell) V Colonel Light Gardens at Mortlock Park
Div 8 (The Chardonnay Socialists) V Mitcham at Price Memorial Reserve
Div 8R (The Scum) V Mitcham at Price Memorial Reserve
Div C1 (The B*stards) V Gaza at Park 10 at 12:15
Div Over 35s (The Greys) V Lyrups at Lyrup Oval, Sunday at 1:00
The Contract Killers take on the undefeated Flagon of Port-Land at Bob Neil Number 1 in what should be a
cracking match. The Flagons are an amalgamation of many teams down Port way, including Riverside who were
one of our great rivals in the 80s, so it will be nice to be playing them again (well, a third of them anyway). After
last weeks much more positive display the Contact Killers will go into this weeks game with a lot of confidence
and will look to start building some real momentum. Unfortunately, a couple of injuries from last week and
Roachie I think is still unavailable as he learns the ways of the Chinese business world through none other than
our own King Kernahan (what a mentor) but a strong side will be on the park nonetheless.
In: Charlie Parsons, James Watson (both on debut, congrats and good luck boys!)
Out: Quin, Lewis J (both injured)
The Fighting Irish will look to extend their unbeaten start to the season against the Flagons however they will
lose at least a couple to the Contract Killers, possibly including Goalline Mulva who kicked 10 last week.
Cyril & The C-Bombs travel south for a change to take on Colonel Lights Garbage at the Rubbish Tip and will
hopefully be boosted by the return of a few key players this week. The C-Bombs have played pretty well the last
two weeks going down to two of the Div 6 fancies (according to those freaks who review/preview Div 6 footy)
but they really need to start getting some wins on the game so this is a crucial game for them to get back to 500
in US sporting parlance.
Sugar Ray and the Cowboys from Hell also travel to the tip and will be looking for a slightly better showing than
last weeks 25 goal loss. They have arranged a Friday night dinner at the Cumby as punishment for last weeks
performance so that should ensure a much better showing on Saturday?!
The Chardonnay Socialists and Scum both take on Robert Mitcham at The Hawthorn Odeon and will also both be
looking to get their season back on track after solid losses last week. The Blacks Caviar didn’t help matters last
week so both teams will Bob willing have better teams on the park this week. The Scum have looked pretty good
in the first two rounds against good opposition, with boom recruit Ash Wednesday Westbrook dominating, but
like the C-Bombs they really need to start winning some games. Or, if not winning, at least losing in an
embarrassing fashion with lots of funny stories – they couldn’t even manage that last week.
The B*stards look to extend their unbeaten start to the season against Gaza Great at Bob Neil # 2 at 12:15 (I
think, or maybe 2:15?), whilst we round out the round of matches with the Greys having a trip up to the
Riverland on Sunday (more on that in the Greys report below).
THE GREYS – AN UPDATE FROM WOLVERINE
The third game for the year sees us hitting the road to face the Riverland Superpuppies at the Lyrup Kennel. This
should be a great trip and a good way for us to get better acquainted or work out who to stay clear of. The bus
going up on Saturday is full and there are several players travelling up Sunday.
The game will be played at 1pm at the Lyrup oval. Click here to see a Google map of the area. The following is
the list of players that I am aware of that are available for this week's trip to the country.
Crazy Vezis, V-Train, Coatsy, Hutch, M. Lamprell, Lukey, Sneathy, Weslington, Placey, Wolverine, Icke, Krievsy,
Min, Cam Bryson, Chevy, michael tape mcgalshan [injured but will go on if we need], the jerk [needs an extra
game for stats}, chloey.
Clearly there might be heads I have missed so let me know if you are one of them.
For those travelling by bus and staying in the Riverland Saturday night I have secured us some 5 star
accommodation at the Lyrup Football Club. We will have the facility at our disposal. The pres of their club has
also mentioned that we could cook up our own breakfast so I will get provisions for a Sunday morning fry up.
Our hosts will also put on some kind of catering throughout the day for us. Should be a nice night away.
We are not allowed bottled beverages in the oval complex so lets be aware of this.
Bus details will be finalised by Krievsy in due course.
If you have any questions. suggestions or know of anyone else that might be interested in playing then have
them contact The Wolverine at [email protected] or call 0416008130.
Thanks for your time.
Love,
Wolverine
MATCH REPORT OF THE WEEK – THE FIGHTING IRISH
Mick O’Leary is undefeated in his first year as coach and wrote his first match report last week so figured that
was sufficient for inclusion:
After sitting through one of the most excruciatingly painful games of football to watch last week there was
combined hope the Non Fighting Irish would come ready to play this week against the Kent Town High Old Boys.
Things started to plan with Jono Hamer streaming through the mid field with the first clearance of the day and
ulv kicking a goal within fifteen seconds. After remaining in control for the majority of the quarter we entered
the quarter time break with a handy four goal lead.
In a gesture of goodwill we decided during the second quarter to allow the opposition back into the contest and
stopped running and began losing contested ball. Despite having the dominant forward on the ground we went
into the long break with a single figure lead with the boys from Kent Town High believing they were a chance.
After being challenged at half time we started the second half with the same attack on the ball and body as the
first quarter taking control across the half back line and in the midfield. As we went deeper into the half the
game began to open up and our running game became dominant and eventually running out 10 goal winners.
The highlight of the game was the dominance of Pat Mulvihill at Full Forward finishing the day with ten majors
and personally outscoring the opposition.
THE LADY GREYS – MESSAGE FROM JANNE FILMER
With the renovation of the Long room a new concept to The Club is about to happen.
Welcome to 'The Lady Greys'.
Mum's, wives, partners, girlfriends, Sponsors, Grannies and volunteers. Who-ever you are, as women of The
AUFC your support has and always will be so important. You may not wear the Guernsey, but you support the
guys that do.
Come along to the games. Get a group together. We can have our own reunions or just join it with the guys. Or it
can just be informal. It is up to you. And trust me when I say there is some very nice 'stuff' in the Long room. No
plastic cups of paper plates for 'The Lady Greys'.
Many Thanks to some very special people who on hearing of the idea, gave me the money to buy what I thought
we would need. Plates, platters, Flutes and wine glasses, bowls and coffee cups etc etc. Our 'sponsors' have
asked not to be named and I will always honour that, however a very big Thankyou is required.
And to Alex at Angove's who has kitted out the bar. Again a very long list of items, and again many Thanks. So
lets see you at the games and be a member of 'The Lady Greys'.
Cheers
Janne
