What is it?

Auditory Processing is the medical term for LISTENING

Auditory Processing difficulties ARE NOT the same as hearing impairments

People with Auditory Processing difficulties can hear the sounds well, but not ‘process’ them

SymptomsMany of the symptoms of CAPD (Central

Auditory Processing Disorders) are not unique to CAPD. It can’t be diagnosed without detailed specialist testing.

Difficulty hearing in noisy situations Difficulty following long conversations Difficulty maintaining a focus if other

sounds are present Difficulty with organisational skills

Strategies

Ensure learners are focusing on what you are saying

Arrange room appropriately Think carefully about the language

you use Reduce background noise
