Audit’s Role• The role of the Audit Directorate is to provide the

Director-General and the DET Audit and Risk Committee an independent opinion on (but not limited to) the following: – Risks are appropriately identified and managed; – Significant financial, managerial, and operating information is

accurate, reliable, and timely; – Employees’ actions are in compliance with policies, standards,

procedures, and applicable laws and regulations; – Resources are acquired economically, used efficiently,

effectively, and are adequately protected; – Programs, plans, and objectives are achieved.

Proposed BER Audit Program

• Audit will undertake 800 school audits for the 2009/10 Audit Plan.

• BER Audit Program will be a planned theme Audit (like Enrolment Audits).

• Audit are yet to determine how many schools with BER projects will be audited.

Proposed 2009/10 BER Audit Program

• What will we Audit?– Key Performance Indicators to be selected in consultation

with the BER IPO.

• When will we Audit?– Commence in Term 3, Principals will be provided with at

least 2 weeks notice.

• What will be issued?– Results will be documented in a Management Letter to the

Principal with a copy to the SED and BER Office.
