    Rare 1907 semi-automatic Luger sells

    at auction for $494,500

    IRVINE, CA, MARCH 2010 Presenting

Fine Collectible Arms & Militaria to a packed

house in Southern California on March 14,Greg Martin Auctions achieved strong sale re-

sults of $2.6 million at its second live event in

2010. The iconic "Million Dollar Luger" es-

    timated to bring $500,000 to $1,000,000 a t-

tracted wide interest prior to the sale. The rare

1907 semi-automatic pistol sold below the low

end of its estimate at $494,500 including

buyers premium, but still set a new world

record for a Luger sold at auction.

Bidding was strong at the event, held near Dis-

neyland in Anaheim, California, and the room

overflowed with buyers and other antique

arms enthusiasts. Over 890 items were offered

at the sale, which continued eight hours with-

out a break. The spring auction also included

. . .Lugerwhich feature the highest-quality firearms of-

fered in recent years, including exceptional

Winchesters and Colts. Bidding for the Win-

chesters was particularly robust at the sale,

with four items achieving $20,000 or more.

According to Greg Martin, president of the

firm bearing his name, the sale answered the

question of what the "Million Dollar Luger"

would bring in todays marketplace. One of

the rarest and most coveted firearms in the

world, the 1907 pistol sold at the low end of

its estimate, but still achieved a world record at

auction for a Luger firearm, said Mr. Martin.

This pistol will always be known as the Mil-

lion Dollar Lugerand is sure to be the center

piece of any collection. Someone made an ex-

ceptional investment no doubt the buyer is

ecstatic. The coveted pistol received its

moniker after it was purchased in 1989 by In-

    donesian billionaire Yani Haryanto for

    $1,000,000 before financial problems forced

its sale. The firearm was also featured in the

1987 movie Wall Street The rarest gun in

the world, Larry, the .45 Luger which

earned Michael Douglas an Oscar for his role

as the ruthless corporate raider Gordon Gekko.

The character is still known today for his no-

torious line Greed is good, which entered

into the public lexicon. The newest buyer, an

entrepreneur and firearms collector who wants

    to remain anonymous.

    AUCTION NEWSWorld Headlines

AFP/File An Indian farmer talks on hismobile phone on the outskirts of Hyderabadin April 2009.

India says could reap $10Billion from 3G auctionNEW DELHI (AFP) India said Wednesday itis likely to earn up to 10 billion dollars from the

auction of superfast third-generation (3G) spec-

trum for mobile phones and broadband serv-

    ices.

The sales are seen as propelling India firmly

into the Internet era and are a vital source of

revenue for New Delhi as it battles a large

    budget deficit.

Few in the country have access to broadband

Internet by computer, but about half a billion

people use mobile phones and they will be able

to access the web from their handsets using the

    fast 3G networks.

With 3G, mobile phone users can surf the In-

ternet, video conference and download music,

video and other content at a much faster pace

than the current second-generation, or 2G, serv-

    ice.

Washington Town Sells for$360,000 on eBay

There are always a number of unusual items for

sale on eBay, but its not every day that you see

an entire town go up for auction. The fetching

price for tiny Wauconda, Washington, was a

mere $360,000, which sounds like a veritable

bargain if one of your dreams in life is to own

    your own zip code.

Wauconda consists of only a restaurant, a small

store, a gas pump, a four-bedroom house and

that exclusive zip code. Nevertheless, seller

Daphne Fletcher claims to take in about

$300,000 per year mostly thanks to the summer

travel season with tourists passing through.

The new owners, Maddie and Neal Love, came

in and sealed the deal a fter a protracted month-

long bidding war, including a hopeful bid from

a young boy who tried to

    surprise his parents by buy-

    ing a town.
