Application guidelines Applications to Amsterdam University College must be submitted entirely online, through our online application

system supported by embark.com. Please read these guidelines carefully before completing and submitting

your online application.

Youwillsavetimeifyoucollectallthedocumentsyouneedindigital/scannedformatbeforeyoustarttocompletetheonline

applicationform,butyoudonothavetocompleteyourapplicationinonesession.Youcanstopatanytime,savewhatyou

havedone,andloginagainlatertocompleteit.Youcaneditandchangeyourapplicationupuntilthepointthatyousubmit

ittoAUC.AUCcannotprocessyourapplicationuntilithasbeensubmitted.Afterithasbeensubmitted,youcanloginatanytimetovieworprintacopyofyourapplicationandtotrackitsstatusthroughtheTrackStatuslink.

AllquestionsshouldbeansweredinEnglish,unlessotherwisespecied.

AnydocumentationsenttoAmsterdamUniversityCollegewithregardtoyourapplicationcannotbereturned.

OfcialtranslationsmustbesubmittedwithdocumentsthatarenotinEnglish,Dutch,GermanorFrench.

Recommendationsarecompletedonline:pleasemakesureyourrecommendersknowinadvancethattherecommendation

formisonlineandthattheywillreceiveane-mailwiththeirpersonallogin.

Ifyourpersonalsituationchanges,pleaseinformAUCAdmissionsassoonaspossible,[email protected].

AUCexpectsallstudentstomeettheadmissionsrequirementsinthewayinwhichtheyindicateontheirapplication.If

youwishtochangethewayyouproposetomeetanyrequirements,youmustrequestthischangeinwritingsothatthe

AdmissionsCommitteecandecideiftheyacceptyouralternativeproof.Youmustdothiswellinadvanceoftheprospective

startingdateforyourstudies.

Complete the online application form

FollowthelinkontheAUCwebsitetotheonlineapplicationsystem,andcreateanaccounttologintoouronlineapplication

form.NB: The e-mail address you use to create your account must be one that you check regularly, as it will be used

for all e-mail correspondence with you.

Followthenumberedstepstocompleteandsubmityouronlineapplication.Youdonothavetocompleteallthestepsinone

session:youcanstopatanytime,savewhatyouhavedone,andloginagainlatertocompleteit.Youcaneditandchangeyour

applicationupuntilthepointthatyousubmitittoAUC.AUCcannotprocessyourapplicationuntilithasbeensubmitted.After

ithasbeensubmitted,youcanloginatanytimetovieworprintacopyofyourapplicationandtotrackitsstatusthroughthe

TrackStatuslink.

Therst5pagesoftheonlineapplicationformcontainquestionsforyoutoanswer.Pages 6 to 29 are upload pages,where

youcanuploadthedocumentstocompleteyourapplication,e.g.personalstatement,essay,schoolreports,diplomas.You

thereforeneeddigital/scannedversionsofallthedocumentsyouwanttosubmitwithyourapplication.TheApplicationInspector

toolwilltellyouifyouhavemissedanyrequiredquestionsordocuments.

IfyourdiplomaisnotfromtheNetherlands,itmustbeconsideredequivalenttotheDutchVWO:pleasecheckthelistonthe

AUCwebsiteforguidance(seetheAdmissionrequirementspageatwww.auc.nl/admissions).Forexample,youneed3A

levelstobeadmittedtoaDutchuniversity(twoASlevelsisequivalenttooneAlevel).AnAmericanhighschooldiplomais

notconsideredequivalenttotheDutchVWO(youneedtocomplete4AdvancedPlacementsubjectsorayearofcollegeor

universitycredit).

Ifyourcountry/diplomaisnotincludedonthelistontheAUCwebsite,thisdoesnotmeanthatyoucannotbeadmitted

yourapplicationwillbeconsideredonitsindividualmeritsbutinmanycasesyouwillberequiredtohavecompletedat

leastoneyearofuniversitybeforebeingeligibleforadmissiontoAUC.

Yourqualicationsmayneedtobeassessedbyacredentialevaluatorinordertodetermineifyoumeettheminimum

admissionrequirements,sopleasemakesureyougivethefullnameofthediplomayouwillachieve/haveachievedinboth

theoriginallanguageandEnglish,andsubmitallofyourmostrecentgradelists/transcripts. Ifyouarealreadystudyingatuniversity,youmustsubmitdetailsofyoursecondaryeducationaswellasyouruniversity

studies.Ifyouwishtorequesttransferofcreditforyouruniversity-levelstudies,youmustdownloadandcompletethe

separatetransferofcreditrequestform.

AnydocumentsnotinEnglish,Dutch,GermanorFrenchmustbeaccompaniedbyanofcialtranslation.

Youonlyneedtosubmitscans/digitalversionsofyourqualicationsatthisstage.Ifyourapplicationissuccessfulwewill

needofcialcertiedpapercopiesofyourqualicationsplusofcialtranslationsofanydocumentsnotinEnglish,Dutch,

GermanorFrench.

OneoftheselectioncriteriaforAUCstudentsisacademicexcellence.WeexpectthattheaverageGPAofallthestudents

admittedtoAUCwillbeatleast7.07.5(Dutchsystem):thesearegoodgrades,wellaboveabasicpass.Ifyoufeel

thatyouracademicabilityisnotaccuratelyreectedinyourgrades/yourGPA,andyouarehighlymotivatedtostudyat

AUC,youshouldhighlightandexplainthisinyourapplication.Youwillneedtodemonstratethatyoudohavetheabilityto

meettheacademicdemandsoftheAUCprogrammethroughyourpersonalstatementandapplicationessay,throughthe

recommendation(s)fromyour(former)teachers,andthroughanyadditionalrelevantinformationyousendus.

Englishprociencyrequirement

TheAUCprogrammeistaughtinEnglish,andstudentsarerequiredtodoagreatdealofreadingandwritinginEnglish.Itis

thereforeessentialthatyouenterAUCwithexcellentskillsinEnglish.Ifyoubelongtooneofthefollowingcategories,youdo

notneedtoprovideaseparateproofofyourprociencyinEnglish:

Englishnativespeakers

StudentswhosesecondaryeducationdiplomathatqualiesthemforuniversitystudieswastaughtcompletelyinEnglish

Dutchstudentswithanalgradeof8orhigherinEnglishontheirVWOdiploma

Ifyoudonotbelongtooneofthesecategories,thenyoumustprovideaseparateproofofyourEnglishlanguageskills.Ifyou

donotyethavethisproof(youmaynotyethavetakenthetest),youcanstillapplytoAUC,butyoumustgivedetailsofwhich

testyouaregoingtotake,whatgradeyouexpecttoget,andwhen.If you are offered a place at AUC it will be conditional

onyourtakingthetestasyouhaveindicatedandmeetingourEnglishrequirementsbeforeyoustartyourstudies.

ThereareseveralwaysinwhichyoucanproveyourprociencyinEnglish,forexample:

TOEFLtest,seewww.toe.org:YoumustmakeyourownarrangementstotakethisTestofEnglishasaForeignLanguage,
