He was recruited by Sam Ginn, who was an active brother at the time. This is the same Sam Ginn that the College of Engineering at Auburn University is named after today. Brother Ringer roomed with Sam for two years. Both brother Ringer and Ginn majored in Industrial Management, today called Industrial Engineering. During his time at Delta Chi, Brother Ringer learned the value of good friends and he enjoyed his various experiences. On top of spending time at the West Glenn house, Ken was also the sports editor of the Glom and the assistant sports editor of the Plainsman. It was there that Brother Ringer found his true passion for writing about sports. Fast forward to 2015, Brother Ringer published a book about Gene Lorendo, was one of my college football heroes. In the book, Ken tells how great a player Lorendo was during his time at the University of Georgia. He mentions that Lorendo led the SEC in pass receiving from 1946-49. When Ken Ringer arrived at Auburn in 1955, Lorendo was coaching Auburn’s ends and pass receivers on offense. After Ken graduated, he served in the US Army for 4 years (3 years in Germany). He then returned to the United States and settled in Atlanta, Georgia. From Atlanta, Brother Ringer helped Auburn recruit football players. During this time, Ken would become friends with Coach Gene Lorendo. It was in 1983 that Coach Lorendo retired after living in Auburn for thirty-two years. After retiring, Lorendo moved back to his home state of Minnesota. In 1996, his wife Jane was in a car accident that took her life. The year after Jane’s passing, Lorendo moved back to Atlanta. In 1997, Brother Ringer and Coach Lorendo renewed their friendship. One afternoon while having lunch with Lorendo, Ken thought to himself, “there is a story to be told about Lorendo’s life.” Ken then asked Coach Lorendo if he could pursue the story and publish it someday. Coach Lorendo was enthused by the idea that his story would be told. Today, Lorendo can be found online. Brother Ringer mentioned that he gained a great deal of knowledge writing the book and learned that a lot of hard work goes into publishing. He noted that every book needs a great editor, cover designer, and publishing company. Ken had to do a lot of research for the book. One of the stories he talked about was how Lorendo was in the Coast Guard in WWII. Lorendo’s duty was on an LST (Landing Ship Tank), a ship that spans 338 feet. Lorendo joined the ship in Pearl Harbor in December 1944-three years after Pearl Harbor was bombed. Coach was in the battles of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and at the surrender of Japan. Today there is one survivor of LST 789. Brother Ringer interviewed the survivor in Macon, Georgia. Ken’s goal was to finish the book before he passed away. Ken was pleased to finish the book knowing that the last survivor of LST 789 would get to enjoy the story within. Brother Ringer has shared Lorendo’s story to help his legacy live for many years to come. Today Brother Ringer is an active alumnus and resides in Auburn, Alabama. Brother Ringer made a lot of great memories though the years at Delta Chi and Auburn University. His continued support as an Alumni of the Auburn Chapter is admirable and his legacy will live forever. The 2015-2016 school year is both hectic and rewarding. This past fall, we had 16 associates, and we currently have 68 active members. April 9, 2016, A-Day weekend, will be our Casino Night and Silent Auction, sponsored by the Parent’s Club. This is our largest alumni event, and our only fundraising event of the year. We would like to invite all of the alumni and their family members to the house that weekend. The house and the kitchen, with the help of Ms. Marilynne, are in good condition. The kitchen is being updated: the cabinets have been stripped and restored, quartz countertops are replacing our old ones, and the walls and ceiling will be painted. One step at a time, we are remodeling the dining area and kitchen. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in the near future, and you are always welcome at the Delta Chi house!

Hello, I am an initiated brother at the Auburn Chapter of Delta Chi. I pledged in the spring of 2015. I was excited to attend my first Regional LeadershiopConference (RLC) in Huntsville, Alabama. On February 20, 2016 RegionVIII gathered at the Space and Rocket Center to discuss the future of eachchapter, the Regent, and International Head Quarters. We also had time tosocialize and meet other members and alumni that attended the confereacne. Having the opportunity to meet members of other Delta Chi chapters helped expand my knowledge of Delta Chi. The opportunity to meet other brothers and alumni also helped me realize that Delta Chi is more than Auburn or any one chapter, but rather a bond shared between members. The highlight of the day was when the Auburn Chapter won the award for Most Improved Chapter in Region VIII. Once the meeting started, we all shuffled into the auditorium.I was surprised and excited about the number of brothers in the building. Ihad several enjoyable conversations with brothers from Georgia Tech,Georgia Southern, Mississippi State, Jacksonville State, and others. I know that there were many other brothers that I didn’t have the opportunity to meet. I learned a plethora of inforamtion about Delta Chi, and interestingly it was not the information I was expecting. I anticipated learning more about the history of Delta Chi, but instead I learned about chapter managment, recruitment, and risk vs reward. We had a very interesting conversation about the history of the ritual. I was pleased to learn more about how to successfully run chapter meetings and how to more effectively rush potential members. All in all, I was pleased with the experience I recieved and knowledge I gained at RLC. I look forward to next year’s Regional Conference and potentially going to the convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

Regent VIII Delta Chi Regional Conferance

A biennial event, the Delta Chi International Convention serves as a catalyst for the Fraternity to conduct official business, educate our members, and strengthen our Brotherhood. Grasping the double meaning of the word “convention” is important. Convention refers to the ultimate governing body of the Fraternity (“-composed of delegates from each colony, undergraduate chapter, alumni chapter, and a Past “AA” committee-”) and “shall have full and complete legislative powers,” as defined by Delta Chi Law. For many, the Convention is the highlight of their summer. With educational, social, and sight-seeing programs, Delta Chi offers activities for all of our undergraduate, alumnus, guest, and family attendees. This year marks the 60th Convention, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky.

I am originally from Colorado, but I have lived in Indiana and Georgia. I would consider the places I have lived to have a positive effect on my character. From all the different places, I’ve taken many hobbies and interests and have tried to continue my involvement with them even after leaving. When I lived in Colorado, I took an interest in animals and in hunting. I also enjoy learning about the types of wildlife found throughout the world. I have also become involved in spreading the message of the Heart of Borneo project. After moving to Indiana, I became a voracious reader. School taught me the simple, pure enjoyment ofreading for pleasure. After devouring anything I could get my hands in elementary school, mainly Edgar Rice Burroughsand R.A. Salvatore, I turned to more challenging literature. Now at Auburn University, I consider Delta Chi my new home. It has taught me just as much as any other place I have lived. Delta Chi has taught me how to be an Auburn man, and what it will mean when I can call myself an initiated brother of Delta Chi. The fraternity has taught me that challenging tasks can be accomplished when taken on with men that I can trust. The brothers have made it clear that their preamble means something to them; that it isn’t just a collection of words used as a self-marketing piece to give them a better social identity. For the short time I have spent

at Delta Chi, it has already become apparent that they believe in brotherhood and the advantages and obligations that come with it. Delta Chi’s new members education isn’t an obstacle course to be completed, nor is it a natural disaster to be survived. As a Delta Chi associate member and Beta Psi’s pledge class president, I can say with full confidence that pledgeship is a crucible where we are meant to push and better ourselves. The brothers have taken time to listen to our questions and provide answers that we can understand. They have taught us life lessons that we can carry with us past Auburn and given us a place that we will be able to call home for the rest of our lives. Being the pledge class president to me means that in addition to the duties and advantages of being an associate member of Delta Chi, Ihave also been afforded the opportunity to learn how to be a leader and adapt to new situations. To me, it means that I have a responsibility to serveas an example of what it means to be an associate member of Auburn and other Delta Chi chapters. I am proud to be able to say that Iam a Delta Chi pledge class president, and I am proud to say that I am an Auburn student. Jackson Rose 2015 Pledge Class President

He recounted his most treasured moment in Delta Chi, when he talked about how brother Alan Stanfield extended the right hand of brotherhood at his initiation. Gary served Delta Chi as Regent, “DD,” “AA,” Housing Fund Chairmen, Foundation President. Over the past few years the undergraduates, parents, and the Alumni have worked hard to maintain and upgrade the house that so many of us have called home. The past few months, there have been many changes made to the house. One of the most significant changes came when the parking lot and driveway were resurfaced. This spring, upgrades have been made to the kitchen cabinets and countertops and the dining room is undergoing a renovation. We hope you will join us at 530 Biggio soon to see the improvements for yourself.

Coming to Auburn from New Orleans , I was almost totally alone until I met these guys. After I pledged and went through initiation, I served as an officer for Delta Chi. I graduated and spent 38 years with BellSouth and AT&T, retired back to Opelika, and have continued helping the chapter any way I can. Some things I will never for-get are the great little brothers; Lou, Noble, and the Duck Inn; the coke machine off the veranda; and a real sighting of “King Rat.” Playing football in the lower 40 and our Indian party—with the teepees on fire—made for some interesting stories while in school. Intramural athletics made the college experience complete, not to mention the blind dates, package deals, and freshman dates. People will never forget Little Joe’s in Columbus on Friday afternoon, the Party Shack, and Clay Smith with the crow at Krystal. All those people made an imprint on me while I was in college, and

now my son is even a Delta Chi and a Marine veteran!

Another great part of Delta Chi were the incredible nicknames we had for one another: Fogman, Wimpy, Moose, Coach, MadDog , Spaceman, Joe-Frank, Curly, Willy, Dink, Poo, Geno… and the list goes on…everyone had one because we are brothers. So what does it really mean to me to be a Delta Chi – it’s a brotherhood of a lifetime ! Please come by the house whenever you get the chance and keep the lega-cy going. We’ve come a long way in the

past few years, and we want to remind new members what it is that we helped create and maintain. We look forward to reconnecting with you and continuing the brotherhood. ITB, Clyde Stanley ‘73 ( -Cajun-)

What it means to me to be a Delta

War Eagle! The fall of 2015 did not end with a trip to the SEC Championship Game as many of us expected. However, last fall was the beginning of a new tradition for the Auburn University Delta Chi Chapter. Appropriately named, The Delta Chi Alumni Tailgate Kickoff took place in Atlanta, Georgia just before kickoff for the first game. This new tradition will allow many of us to reflect on the glory days and share memories that will span more than a lifetime. This past fall, about sixty of our brothers convened to do just that while having catered food and beverages. The Undergraduate Chapter and the Alumni Board hope you will join us for the 2016 Delta Chi Alumni Tailgate Kickoff when Auburn meets the Clemson Tigers at Home on Saturday, September 3. Please be on the lookout for more information in the near future. ITB, Timothy (TJ) Helms ‘14
