Q: Dina is a med1 student. She has an anatomy exam this Saturday for which she is very well prepared. Chadia, her best friend, spent her last week having fun and barely studied for this exam. Chadia asks Dina if she could help her cheat during the exam. If not, she will most likely fail the course and repeat the year. Dina is confused and comes to you for help. What would you advise her to do?

Page 4: AUB FM Interview Lecture 2012. -Room with 2 doctors sitting with you on a table -They have papers in their hands -One paper on which they have the questions.

What you should mention/ think of:

•If she was really your best friend, would she have put you in such a situation in the first place?

•Try to talk to her before saying no?! Maybe try to convince her that she will be seeing patients, and she should know her material very well because treating patients should be taken very seriously

•One day she will become a responsible doctor?!

•Yes or No?

Always take some time to understand the question

Answer in English Make eye contact Stay calm and try to smile especially after

the doctors ask the question and after you finish your answer

Page 6: AUB FM Interview Lecture 2012. -Room with 2 doctors sitting with you on a table -They have papers in their hands -One paper on which they have the questions.

Don’t repeat yourself just because you have nothing to say

You have to tell them when you finish answering. As we said, they will not stop you nor ask you if you finished

Answer honestly Be yourself Try not to put yourself in trouble (in part 2)

Q:Sari is a MED2 student at AUB when a new war starts. His family decides to leave for the safety of the mountains, and the south is declared a dangerous war zone. There are many casualties. NGOs are personally asking each and every med student to help out in the south, where there are many emergency patients and the doctors present cannot handle the load. Sari comes to you for advice. Q: Fouad is a doctor at AUBMC with a terminally ill patient. The patient’s family asks Fouad that in case the disease was terminal, he should not tell the patient. Fouad now has to decide whether to announce the bad news to the patient or do as the family asked. What would you recommend him to do.

What you should mention/ think of:

•Depends on cultures? It’s not wrong to say that you don’t know

(Either way, answer what YOU think is right to do)

•Maybe the patient has some work to do before he dies… some inheritance to take care of, that no one knows about… Should you tell him that he will die?

•If he asks, do you lie?!!!

•Patient/Doctor confidentiality

But, one of Jad’s classmates announces to him that he is not willing to do his share of the work. This will significantly lower everyone’s grade. Jad, the group leader, tries to convince him to work, but fails miserably. Jad is not sure what to do in this situation and asks for your advice. What would you say?

Q: Jawad is a hardworking assembly line employee who spends most of his time in a factory to pay for his family's needs. One day, his wife Salma becomes extremely sick and Jawad rapidly spends most of their insurance money and savings. The doctor eventually tells Jawad that she will only get better if she is given a very expensive type of medication sold in pharmacies all over Lebanon, otherwise she will surely die. The problem is that Jawad is now broke. A friend of his says it should be easy to steal from a pharmacy, and goes over the plan with Jawad. Jawad calls you and explains to you that Salma’s only way out is if he steals the medication. What would be your answer?

Exams and exams and exams , exam room, friends and proctors Cheat?!
