Personal Statement

My name is Krystin Sherry and I currently reside in San Antonio, Texas where I am continuing my education in hopes of becoming a psychologist in the near future. I started out with and Associates or Arts in Business from Western International University and then began my Bachelors degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix Online. I quickly realized the the University of Phoenix was not a good match for me and I transferred to Argosy University Online where I am finishing up my degree. I have helped several close friends and family member overcome life changing issues and I have been hooked on helping people ever since. I hope to start working in a mental health facility while reaching towards a graduate degree in psychology. My career goal is to become a psychologist and run my own practice some day.

Reflection

While attending Argosy University Online I have learned critical thinking skills, information literacy, ethics, written and oral communication skills, diversity, applied psychology, research methods, and knowledge of psychology.

Cognitive Abilities

Society’s social structure has a lot to do with why racism and sexism are still a problem today.

Research Skills

While there is evidence of women as well as minorities having lower upward mobility rates, there is no evidence of the glass ceiling being the cause for the lower upward mobility rates.

Many questions would go through my mind upon being told I was told I was paralyzed such as how will I provide for my family, will this ruin my marriage, how will I be able to function in every day life with no legs, and why did this happen to me.

My interviewee was a 23-year-old female whose sexual orientation is homosexual. She is a lesbian and very open and honest about her sexual orientation as well as comfortable with whom she is.

Humanism is a philosophical approach that emphasizes an individuals personal worth and the centrality of human values (Argosy, 2011).

My Future in Learning

Learning is a lifelong process, especially in the field of psychology. I intend to continue my education through hands on experience, a graduate degree, and eventually a doctorate degree. While schooling will help me with a formal education, hands-on experience in the field will help teach me what can happen in certain situations and how to deal with those issues when they arise.
